I've seen this topic on the threads, but mostly for previous versions. I have LR4, and my previews load so slowly. How can I speed them up? Bridge handles the previews so fast and it is so much nicer going through with that program, but I'd like to move my workflow to LR4 solely. But hard to with the preview handling being so much slower.

Ratings lost when switching between folders, etc. (ie: all photos, last import, custom collections) This was a clean install that ran beautifully at first. Started noticing this more and more after using the spot tool. (my last step in processing a job)
I use separate catalogs per job. Some as small as a few dozen images. (family stuff) Others, as large as 500-600. (engagement and wedding clients)
As I flip through pics in the Library Module, the previews often take a while to load. Any way of speeding this process up? I've already tried changing the Catalog Settings, ensured the pixels meet my screen resolution, and chose low quality preview.

My LR 5 is as slow as a snail generating those previews.
Importing my RAWs form the EOS 6D (saved on a 95MB/s 32 BG SanDisk Extreme Pro) it renders only the 12 or 24 displayed previews and leaves out the rest (the next only when I'm scrolling down). For 12 images LR5 needs 8-10 seconds. LR4.4 does the same process for all 150 RAWs in 1-2 seconds.
It doesn't matter if I want to import to my workstation (Dell Precision T1650, 8core Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, 16GB RAM, 64bit) via USB 3.0 (Reader & Port) or to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6400). So it must be LR, not my hardware.
Are there known issues with the Canon-RAW format? I just updated EOS firmware to 1.1.3, but the renderspeed stays the same. For 1 image 3-4 seconds single...
Since starting to use LR in 2009, I've been making separate catalogues for every 6 months worth of photos. I've now decided to consolidate all my photos in a single catalog, but the process is taking forever, even though I'm not moving the photos, just importing edits/previews/ratings/collection etc.. How to speed things up.BTW, all of my catalogs have been converted to LR4 format.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe do a lot of 3D texturing for models. While CS6 was doing that just fine, CC has a problem. When we paint on 3D model directly, it has a 0.5-1 second lag. That's acceptable, as it's not used much. However from CC it started to lag even when painting directly on unfolded texture. Which basically interferes with our job.
It seems that there is no applying step anymore when switching from flat texture to 3D view and all changes are applied on 3D immediately when we paint on flat texture. Release notes say it's a 100x speed improvement, but we don't really see it. We see this behaviour on 2 computers: OS X one and Win8 one.
So my question is - can we turn immediate change applying on 3D model off?
Are the previews of deleted images themselves automatically deleted from the previews folder?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am run Photoshop CS6 Extended 64-bit (from design premium) on Windows 7, 64-bit with 8GB RAM.
When I first start PS, it looks like it freeze on the text "Measuring Memory". If I wait for about 30 seconds, it will eventually load and everything works fine. No issues with Save for Web or anything.
I have read the other threads on this and tried all of these solutions:
Checked my ram in memtest (15 passes, no error)Trash preferences and open again UN-install and re-install (tried twice)Updated PS to latest with Adobe Update Reboot machine .
This happen when I first run Windows, so lack of RAM is not the issue. I have no printers, other hard drive, or remote network drive attached to machine. Scratched disk is set to the boot disk (C:)
Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS6 load normally.
I created a 30min video, with a lot of photos mixed with live video, transitions, music, etc. Now, when I try to reopen the file for futher editing, it appears the software needs to re-render all the thumbnails in my video track stream. As I mentioned, I have a lot of photos in there, so it's taking forever.
With the previous software I used (Pinnacle Studio), I could flush the cache and have the program rebuild (and store) all the thumbnail info for faster loads in subsequent sessions.
I am using PS CS2 on my XP based PC and it has worked fine for a number of years. Recently whenever I start PS is loads fine but then the very first image takes ages to load (>1 minute). All subsequent images load quickly as you'd expect.
It doesn't matter where that first image is saved and the size of the image makes no difference.
I just installed photoshop cs3 on my laptop! I try to open a file i take approximately 2-3 min to load! Any idea's what could be the problem! Oh and they aren't big files! And in case anyone needs to know.....Its a brand new laptop just bought it last week! Its running on a dual core intel at 2.0GHz 4g of ram 512 graphics card!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a lot of scenes that have become exceedingly slow to save and load. Like often taking 10 to 20 minutes to save. With looming deadlines this is becoming really desperate! I've tried merging into a new scene, running scripts to clean out notetracks etc. Even after deleting every object and material, and resetting all render settings, the file is still inexplicably slow. See attached example.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a friend who's got perhaps unusual Photoshop needs. He's working on a 10000x20000 pixel 16 bit image with maybe 6 image layers and 12 total layers. Loading the file takes about 20 minutes.
The system is a 2.6 GHz quad-core i7 with 12 GB RAM and a 32GB SSD primary scratch, 200 GB of secondary scratch, with a 1 GB Radeon HD 4870, running CS4 64bit on Vista 64.
What seems odd to me is that memory usage climbs steeply for the first perhaps 4 GB, looking like the load might complete in a minute or two, then the CPU kicks in for the long, long remainder of the load. The file on disk is roughly 5 GB.
We've got issues aside from this, but I'll detail them in another thread.
My work helpdesk has recently installed AutoCad 2012 and my co worker and I noticed that at the start up its loads very slowly and often when we double click on a DWG to open (without Autocad being already open) it crashes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSuddenly Maya's import/export/open file dialogue box has become extremely slow, taking forever to browse thru folders, freezing in the process.
This is independently of file/scene size. Specs are Ok. CPU i7-4930k, 16gb RAm, Geforce GTX 780, running windows 8.1 with a Kingston SSD and a second 3tb Caviar Green HD.
I'm using windows XP with Photoshop CS.
Whenever the network cable is connected to the computer, Photoshop start-up load time is significantly longer than when I pull the network cable out.
I have just installed Lightroom 3 - on PC laptop - and imported some images from the Picture Folder on the OS drive.Everything seems to be fine except (and its a major except) there are absolutely no thumbnails or previews of these pictures appearing in Lightroom to work on. I have tried this with a few different file formats.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFacts - MacPro with 16gb ram and latest OS X. When i import images 1:1 previews are generated. My preferences file says to never get rid of 1:1's and I have a 90gb cache file. Using 2 - 24" monitors.
Question:Grid view in one display and the other shows loupe view. When click on loupe view on second monitor to go to 1:1 it can take 15 seconds (D800 files) for the 1:1 loupe view to show. What is weird is that if I go to an image in grid (second monitor off) and go to the menus and build a 1:1 preview then when I open loupe on the second miniotr and go to 1:1 it is immediate with no waiting.
Added later Have instructed LR to build 1:1 previews on a group of files. After doing this the 1:1 loupe view is immediate. For those images that were not yet rendered took time to show 1:1 in loupe.
I rerally do not understand how this is happening since 1:1s were rendered at import. Evbidently the import 1:1s have been removed - but why?
I just switched from a PC (XP) to an iMac (Lion), and have gotten all of the pictures and catalog moved over. HOwever, none of the previews show. When I go to develop mode, picture opens, preview generated: But, when I then switch to another file, the preview seems to disappear and has to be regenerated each time.

I seem to have accidently deleted the RAW files before exporting.. not sure how this happened as I don't recall doing it. They are not on my external hard drive and sadly not on my memory card either.

I have several fairly large catalogs and the preview data files are getting pretty large.

I have pictures on an external hard drive that are imported into my catalog. One folder ( out of many) when called up do not show previews when in Library. If I choose develop, the pictures appears and so does the preview. When I try to backup , I get an error message that my preview cache is having a problem. All other folders have good previews.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed LR 5 and find all the previews grayed out. In grid view I see only placeholders and metadata, no images. Also the navigator window is blank. When I go to develop-mode the image stays invisible, until I enter the cropping mode. Only then the image becomes visible, but after exiting this tool it is gray again. Removed LR and installed again, same issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTuesday night, I was working on a senior photo session. Everything was working perfectly fine. I decided to export the 2013 sessions to a new catalog. Everything still looking great. No issues.
Some potentially important info: I was using two monitors: a pro-level Viewsonic LED backlit 24" calibrated monitor and my laptop monitor. I was working with the Nvidia driver to calibrate the laptop monitor to be "close" to the pro monitor. I was able to get there using the Nvidia controls (versus the defaults). Then the Nvidia auto-updater prompted me to update my video driver that same night. I let it do its thing. Everything appeared to be fine with it and I was still able to work with LR5 no problems.
I had to take a break for a few hours. So, I closed LR5 and came back later to work on more images. When I pulled up the new 2013 catalog, all the image previews (thumbnail and large) were gone. The physical images were still on the drive, but I couldn't see them to edit nor preview them no matter what module I chose. I selected various images I'd just worked on and went to the Develop module - no dice. The preview was not working nor any thumbnail previews.
So I did some troubleshooting. I deleted the LR5 prefs file and let it recreate the file. Still nothing. Same behavior. I went to uninstall LR5 thinking I'd just reset the whole shebang, and noticed that I had LR5 and LR5CC installed (apparently CC didn't uninstall the single license version). So I uninstalled both LR5 installations. I rebooted and reinstalled from CC.
...still nothing... same behavior.
I uninstalled it again (since it's unusable) and installed Bridge CC. Voila! The images are all there and I can work with them in ACR, etc. No issues at all.
This leads me to believe that something got messed up with LR5's configuration with previews. I believe I did have Smart Previews enabled.
So now that you have all that info and backdrop: What should I do to get LR5 back to normal so I can keep working on these paying gigs? If i can understand what caused the break, I'll avoid doing that from now on.
LR 4.1 starts but never finishes. It doesn't matter if it is one photo or more.

Veteran LR user here. Since updating, LR 5 consistently causes snags (for us) when creating web galleries. Here's the workflow: after editing raw files and applying settings, we have a nice folder of images cropped and ready to preview with client.
Now, when we go to the Web Module, the previews are grayed-back in the Filmstrip, and images won't appear in any of the web gallery templates (either custom ones we designed or the preset versions.) We've tried everything from flagging and staring images to get them to appear. Also save metadata to all the images in the folder.
The only thing that seems to work is to close LR5--with backup and catalog optimization--then, we re-open LR5. That seems to "free up" the Web Module. Upon reopening LR5, our folder of images suddenly appears when we go to the Web Module.
This is an unacceptable work around b/c closing and optimizing takes alot of time. Making web proofing galleries used to be a snap in previous versions of LR, now we're stumped in LR5 trying to figure out what we're doing wrong.
I created a catalog with smart previews from my PC (Win 7, 64 bit) and copied it onto my macbook pro (OSX 10.9.1) via a thumb drive. I can view the photos fine, zoom in and use the develop controls. However I get no histogram, cannot export and below the histogram it just says 'photo is missing'.
The whole point of this exercise was to choose and export lo-res selects to customers when out of the office. I can't do that.
