Lightroom :: Previews Of Deleted Images Themselves Automatically Deleted From Previews Folder?

View 1 RepliesDo the previews (1:1 etc.) get deleted from the previews.lrdata file when you remove the photo from Lightroom?
If yes, does it happen imediately, when the catalog closes, or when you optimize?
If not, how do I get rid of them without loosing the rest?
I have several fairly large catalogs and the preview data files are getting pretty large.
Lightroom 4.4 (will switch to 5 when I have time between projects)
Mac OS-X 10.6.8 & 10.8.4
The original files are gone, deleted accidentally. But my LR3 catalog still has full size previews of all of them. Is there any way to convert those previews into photo files (dng or jpg would be fine)?
It seems like this should be possible - I can see the images right there on my screen, so they can't be gone for good!
The deleted photos comprise an entire day in Venice, Italy, and had already been sorted into keepers. Even if I could only get a medium sized jpeg, it'd be better than nothing at all.
I deleted a folder in the library mode and now I need this folder to be back. I tried to import the hole folder again, but Lightroom didn't show me the images like there weren't any images. I think, that I didn't actually deleted the folder and that the pictures are still in the catalog. And I don't have a back up for this catalog.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I first began using LR I don't think I understood the navigation correctly, because for one project, back in June, I created a folder and moved favorites (flagged and 5-starred) from other folders into that one. What I didn't realize until 5 minutes ago is that it actually moves those files on your HD as well! The folder in LR has long since been deleted and for a heart-stopping 15 minutes or so I thought all my favorite photos were gone as well.
What I found, however, was the original project folder with all my favorites on my HD. So that's okay - problem is, now when I try to bring the folders back into LR, it treats them all as new, untreated photos. It doesn't recognize them. It doesn't recognize any adjustments I've made, either. Even in Finder when I open the photos, they're all totally untreated.
My question: is there a way I can get LR to recognize those photos again? Or am I going to have to go one by one and re-do all my adjustments, keywords, and folder placement?
I am running out of room on my OS SSD and have a spare SSD and would like to move the Previews folder.
I tried using this link:
[URL]
Which says the method will redirect LR to another folder on a different drive - but it doesn't seem to work for me (Win 7). If I do what it suggests and delete the previews folder (after backing it up), LR just begins to recreate new previews on the C-drive LR folder in My Pictures.
Is there a way to automatically create smart previews inside a collection? Now, I know how to create a smart collection of only my holiday pictures with a five star rating. That's not the problem, but is there a way that these pictures are automatically transferred into a smart preview?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed the Lightroom catalog etc. into the Pictures folder as that is the default setting. However, I don't want all the previews clogging up my Pictures folder, so would like to move the catalog, previews etc. to a new folder, but can't figure out how to do it properly.
View 14 Replies View RelatedInstead of "removing" a folder with thousands of photos I went in to Windows Explorer deleted the catalog, the locked file and a few other folders. However, when I try to delete the folder with all the thousands of previews folders in it I get a message telling me that I can't delete them because they are being used by another program. I don't have Lightroom open when I try to do this so my question is: how can I simply delete those folders from my hard drive?
Do I have to un-install Lightroom to do this? Hopefully not.
I've recently moved from iPhoto and already had a hard time figuring out how to replicate the "hidden" photos and how not to display them in lists etc. by default.
Now I'm hanging on another thing I simply couldn't find in LR4 yet but believe it must be there - at least it would be a no-brainer to implement this if I were a programmer of LR.
The feature I'm talking about is the user-definable preview picture for each "event" in iPhoto.
In LR, in the Library module, there is this folder selection menu on the left-hand panel. Now when I hover all the folders shown there the picture in the Navigator changes to resemble the respective first picture in each of the folders.
What I want to do is select a different "preview" picture for each folder and save this setting inside the Lightroom catalog I'm currently in.
How do I accomplish that - or is it impossible with the current version of Lightroom?
While editing an image in LR4, I accidentally deleted it from develpment module. I have a problem with restoring it. But I see the same image file by opening Explorer or navigating the original folder of image source. I could not re-import the same deleted image in Library module. ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt happened a couple months ago, but I thought it was a bug, and now it's happened again, and now it's corrupting my original files.
Here's what's happening, at least my actions thus far. Lightroom 4 worked fine and dandy. No issues whatsoever. We then upgraded to LR5.
Now, as I'm going in Library tab through images as it's seems to be pulling up an image it shows up with jagged edges and just looks -- corrupted. So then I look at the file in Finder and now that image can't be opened up in Photoshop, Preview or any other application. For some reason LR's previews are corrupting the ACTUAL, ORIGINAL images.
Now back a month ago, it happened when it wasn't a big deal, I had the RAW original files backed up, but now, now it's corrupted at least two folders and the original RAW files can't be opened. Here's the summary:
-- As for corrupt cameras/disks -- I have files from Hasselblaad and from Canon doing this. I have many different cards that were used in this.
-- It's only when I opened up in Lighroom 5. Otherwise files were fine. JPEG conversions that were made from these images weeks ago were fine.
-- It's happening to one out of every 5 pictures or so. Which is A LOT OF PICTURES TO BE CORRUPTED.
For the ones that I have backed up, now I have to go figure out which....rename them...etc. AND HOPE AND PRAY this doesn't happen again.
-- It says it can't open the file.
And then when I go to finder, through lightroom, to RAW image it doesn't work to even bring it in Photoshop.
SO it's corrupting my files so that Photoshop can't recognize them. NOT all photos are being affected, just the folders I go to in Lighroom. Any other files in lightroom (from same day/camera) are okay.
I'm wondering if it's possible to create smart previews for images that were imported into the catalog in a prior version of LR. As my catalog continues to increase in size, I'm considering relocating my images to an external drive (currently on the hard drive). I'm obviously concerned about doing any unintended damage to the catalog and workflow.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that I have on occasion gotten stupid and selected "Remove" after marking images as rejected, when I meant to select Delete From Disk. I believe this means I have image files on my hard drive that no longer appear in the Lightroom catalog, but I don't want them at all. I meant to move them to the trash bin, but, like I said, just hit the wrong button for some reason.
Is there any way I can search for images still in my folders on my hard drive (where I save them when imported in Lightroom) that no longer appear in my catalog? I'd like to clean up my hard drive before transfering images to a new computer.
After I've exported through LR 3 I am getting different tone qualities only with two different image viewing windows. The picture attached shows the example of the image on the left opened with Windows Photo Viewer is brighter red tie and bluer suit while the one on the right is opened with Microsoft Photo Editor is more darker red and purple suit. The one on the left is the correct image.
This is also happening when the photo is sent through an inventory management system we have. I am exporting with 600 x 1200 jpeg resize 72 dpi at sRGB, 100 quality, and jPeg mode in File settings.
Where do pictures go after they are automatically deleted from your camera after a download? I thought I imported them into my Adobe Photoshop Elements but it failed and then it deleted them automatically from my camera card! I need these pictures back!
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I make new objects like box, cylinder etc, I can't edit their properties like subdivisions, etc as if their history got deleted even though I don't delete it. They are made with pre-deleted history..
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery now and again and usually after a crash, when I start up AE I get a message saying that the AE media cache folder does not exist. When I check on my drive for that folder, AE is quite right - it is not there. I use a separate SSD for all my media caching and another drive for footage and another as my start up drive. I set AE to use a folder called A:AE Cache. For whatever reason AE is deleting this folder. Other folders on this drive remain as they are. Unless I have a goblin sneaking into my suite on a night deleting this folder or Windows decides to delete this folder all on it's own then it is almost definitely AE that is doing it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen searching for files I've worked on using File>Open in CS6, the List view of the folder no longer shows a thumbnail of the file. This is ridiculous, as every other version of Photoshop has had it, and everyone is complaining.
Why isn't Adobe responding to this? With the frequency with which we have to update to be able to update rather than buying the entire version, we shouldn't be losing functionality in the program. How about it Adobe?????
I no longer get previews for images I want to open in Gimp for Mac 2.8.6

I have been given a problem that involves a group of objects and images that have been masked. When i duplicate the group, move it and make some changes, on reopen it seems some of the masked images are duplicated and appear in the original position before they were moved?
Although they are masked out they are obviously not good. These images also appear in the link panel without any thumbnails.
Sometimes when I try to delete photos in Lightroom 4 a dialog box apears saying that the photo can't be deleted, it isn't in any collection so how can I get rid of it from both LR4 and the harddrive?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Lightroom 3 - on PC laptop - and imported some images from the Picture Folder on the OS drive.Everything seems to be fine except (and its a major except) there are absolutely no thumbnails or previews of these pictures appearing in Lightroom to work on. I have tried this with a few different file formats.
View 25 Replies View RelatedIn LR 4, you should skip the previews and just start playing a slideshow (it would render as it played). It looks like that's been removed in LR5? How can I restore the LR4 functionality?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have about 20 gigs of previews on my hard drive, yet have LR set up to delete the 1:1 previews after 1 day. How to force LR to get rid of all these previews and free up the 20 gigs of hard drive space?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFacts - MacPro with 16gb ram and latest OS X. When i import images 1:1 previews are generated. My preferences file says to never get rid of 1:1's and I have a 90gb cache file. Using 2 - 24" monitors.
Question:Grid view in one display and the other shows loupe view. When click on loupe view on second monitor to go to 1:1 it can take 15 seconds (D800 files) for the 1:1 loupe view to show. What is weird is that if I go to an image in grid (second monitor off) and go to the menus and build a 1:1 preview then when I open loupe on the second miniotr and go to 1:1 it is immediate with no waiting.
Added later Have instructed LR to build 1:1 previews on a group of files. After doing this the 1:1 loupe view is immediate. For those images that were not yet rendered took time to show 1:1 in loupe.
I rerally do not understand how this is happening since 1:1s were rendered at import. Evbidently the import 1:1s have been removed - but why?
I just switched from a PC (XP) to an iMac (Lion), and have gotten all of the pictures and catalog moved over. HOwever, none of the previews show. When I go to develop mode, picture opens, preview generated: But, when I then switch to another file, the preview seems to disappear and has to be regenerated each time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make preview photos that have the exclamation mark ( ! ) top right - into low res jpegs? I seem to have accidently deleted the RAW files before exporting.. not sure how this happened as I don't recall doing it. They are not on my external hard drive and sadly not on my memory card either.
