Photoshop :: CC Slow In Performance On Big Files?
Sep 9, 2013I've been using PS CS4 since release and upgraded to CS6 Master Collection last year.Since my OS broke down some weeks ago (RAM broke), i gave Photoshop CC a try. At the same time I moved in new rooms and couldnt get my hands on the DVD of my CS6 resting somewhere at home...So I tried CC.
Right now im using it with some big files. Filesize is between 2GB and 7,5 GB max. (all PSB)Photoshop seem to run fast in the very beginning, but since a few days it's so unbelievable slow that I can't work properly. if it is caused by the growing files or some other issue with my machine.
The files contain a large amount of layers and Masks, nearly 280 layers in the biggest file. (mostly with masks)The images are 50 x 70 cm big @ 300dpi.
When I try to make some brush-strokes on a layer-mask in the biggest file it takes 5-20 seconds for the brush to draw... I couldnt figure out why.And its not so much pretending on the brush-size as you may expect... even very small brushes (2-10 px) show this issue from time to time.
Also switching on and off masks (gradient maps, selective color or leves) takes ages to be displayed, sometimes more than 3 or 4 seconds.The same with panning around in the picture, zooming in and out or moving layers.It's nearly impossible to work on these files in time.never seen this on CS6.
Now I wonder if there's something wrong with PS or the OS. But: I've never been working with files this big before.In march I worked on some 5GB files with 150-200 layers in CS6, but it worked like a charm.

System and PS are running on the first SSD, scratch is on the second. Both are set to be used by PS.RAM is allocated by 79% to PS, cache is set to 5 or 6, protocol-objects are set to 70. I also tried different cache-sizes from 128k to 1024k, but it didn't work a lot. When I open the largest file, PS takes 20-23 GB of RAM.
Photoshop :: CS6 / Mac OS Lion - Slow Performance?
Sep 11, 2012I've installed the latest CS6 update, but Photoshop is running really slow on quite a number of things. I'm happy with the overall performance: read/write, filters, selections, cropping, transform... they're all OK.
But whenever I go into the Curves dialogue, and want to add a point to the curve (or move an exisiting point), there's a 1-2 second "delay", so it's really hard to work fluently and without time-lag. Even if I have the "Preview" box unchecked in the Curves Dialogue.
I noticed the same is happening when I'm in the Gradients dialogue: Try and pick a color, in the color dialogue. 1-2 seconds later, the chosen colour finally gets selected.
The strange thing is: If I work with a Curve Adjustment Layer (instead of a "destructive" curve), Photoshop behaves nice & snappy...Would an update to OS 10.8 make things better? (I'd prefer to stick with Lion for now though)
VideoStudio :: Slow Performance With Photos / Videos On NAS Box?
Mar 16, 2011One thing that is slowing me down is that all my photos and videos are on a Western DIgital NAS box that I can access with fairly decent performance. I want to leave them there as I have them all organised how I want them. I have a 64-bit Windows 7 laptop with 4GB RAM and Intel Core i5 processor and access the NAS box via a Wireless-N connection on the laptop via a Netgear Wireless-N router.
When I add a video or photo I get a lag (more notably the videos) but worse is selecting a video after importing it into a library. It can take a good 10-30 seconds before I can continue using VideoStudio. Is there anyway I can reduce this lag selecting videos or is my only option to copy videos to my laptop?

Apr 12, 2012We have multiple parts where we need a large amount of holes being patterned with the rectangular feature. why is this process and everything afterwards so ridiculously slow.? it is really driving me nuts! In solidworks this is no problem at all.

3ds Max :: Slow Performance On AutoCAD Drawing Import
Oct 11, 2012I'm having major slowdown after an AutoCAD drawing import. I have never had this much slowdown in 3ds Max, even with very complex 3D scenes.
I've tried switching graphic renderers with no luck. I'm working from a textbook and cannot proceed without this step.

The document is best described as a "catalog" style piece. It contains 2 artboards (front and back) with approximately 30 item images on each side.
When I work on this document, after every click, tool selection, or almost any action, Illustrator "sticks" and goes to "Not Responding" temporarily, then becomes stable again for me to perform a function - then it will stick again (and repeat).

Jul 30, 2013 that is having really slow performance using AE CS6 or AECC and possibly AE CS5.5 I think i might of found out what the problem is.My System specs are below:
Dell T7600 Dual XEON E5-2687W 3.1/3.8GHz w turbo / Dell M6700 i7 -3940XM 3.9GHz
64GB Ram / 32GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro K5000 / Nvidia Quadro K5000M
Windows 7 x64
Here are the issues I was having
- Really slow performance when scrubbing along the timeline.
- Adaptive Resoltion wasn't working at all super slow previewing
- Multiprocessor rendering not working, or taking forever to start up, and sometimes it would work but still not the way it should it was hit or miss
- Disk Caching not working
- many others that I can't think of at the moment
SOLUTION for slow scrubbing of the timeline for Quad, Six and Eight core systems
Here is what I figured out after hours and hours of testing and configuring. I even went back to AE CS5.5 to see if all these problems existed in that version. Although some did but not all
From what I can tell it looks like certain plugins are not compatible to Quad, Six and Eight Core machines. The main plugin that has the problem is Keylight 1.2 that comes bundled now with CS6 and CC.
If you turn off the plugin on your layers scrubbing the timeline speeds up and works like it should. If you want to use keylight then do the following:
- under screenmatte, set the screen softness to 0
- shrink and grow to 0.
If you use any number other than these settings it causes scrubbing and rendering of the timeline to go extremely slow.
SOLUTION for all the issues above for Quad, Six and Eight core systems
After hours and hours of testing I have come to the conclusion that AE CS6 and CC don't work well with Quad, six and eight core systems in general and especially with the keylight plugin.
FIX: Go into your Bios of your computer and set your multiple core to either 1, 2 cores, theis will give you 2 thread or 4 threads. This will fix all the issues as stated below. I haven't tested 4 cores yet but soon will.
But I know that 6 and 8 cores definitely does not work it causes all the major issues above.
After setting my system to 1 or 2 cores, Ae is extremelly fast and responsive. Timeline scrubbing is super fast now even with keylight 1.2 and all it's settings. Adaptive resolution now works, Multiprocessing starts up
immediately and disk caching is working.
Conclusion
I am not able to set my system to use 8 or all cores in my bios, This causes so many performance issues in AE CS6 and CC and some in even CS 5.5. I need to use either 1 or 2 cores. As you might no this really sucks when I am limiting myself to only 4 threads when I could be using 32 threads. Pleas Adobe look into this issues with these systems that have 4, 6 or 8 core systems. This could possibley just be for Dual core systems too since that is what I have here.
AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Crash / Extremely Slow Performance With Patterns
May 28, 2013I have a mech/mfg-necessary pattern set on several parts, to the tune of about 90 slots and 500 holes each. Inventor is absolutely sucking it up handling these parts, and the assembly of these parts together is just a complete nightmare.
I have half-hour load times, constant crashes, and to top it off, they're iparts (used in an iassembly), which means I am constantly having to regenerate the whole part family with every change, a process that can take literally hours.
Are there substitute tricks, or display setting shenanigans I can pull? All of the features are individually needed somewhere, but no mgf machine needs all of them present at once.
Photoshop :: Slow Brushes
Jan 4, 2008I downloaded just a couple brush packs last night to my photoshop CS3 10. However, in the brush list, it is very slow scrolling up or down and requires the hard drive to work. Is there any way I can prevent this from happening? any files to add or delete? thanks a lot!

Mar 6, 2009Whenever I try to use a brush, the program slows down to a crawl. For instance: I open a 600 x 450 JPG and load a size 175 brush. Everything is fine until I increase the brush size. 175 - 900 is OK, but then the brush tip starts to lag like all hell. Reducing the brush size doesn't help. Apparently the problem also depends on the image size. When I load the same brush and a 1440 x 900 JPG, the lagging kicks in earlier. I tried changing the performance settings, but to no avail.
I'm using CS4 11.01 and Windows XP SP3.

-first, the new brushes flow slower than before- already at 3000-1700 pixels, 300 dpi. Which are modest measures when you paint seriously. I've some delay pulling a sign with most of my brushes. (Btw, i checked with care my brush dynamics). Some hints of what I should set to get a faster/natural flow ?
-second, the zoom wheel of my wacom tablet is broken with the update to xQuartz 271. 'Never had this problem before-damn, zooming ist important. I worked out some workaround using modifier keys (on the tablet), but its never ever so precise as with the wheel.

Lightroom :: Will A 10K RPM HDD Boost Performance
Jun 13, 2012I was wondering how many people are using a 10000 RPM drive as their OS hard drive. My OS backup drive is dying slowly, and I'm thinking whether or not it would make sense to spend $300 on a faster drive (and use it as the OS drive). Mainly I'd like to speed up Lightroom and Photoshop.

Jul 17, 2013Installed Lightroom 5 upgrade. On LR 4 I can export a 55 slideshow as MP4 with 1080p preset using all four cores on a win7-64 (Intel I7) in about 6-8 min (used 70-80% processor). In LR5, the CPU never goes above 15% processor and takes 45-50 minutes. I can flip between the two (not at the same time) to test. Luckily, no catalog changes other than what the automatic conversion did.
Interestingly, I see a ".aac" and ".m4v" in the destination directory during the rendering process (they eventually goes away and are replaced by the ".mp4" at the end of the rendering export process).
Why LR5 is not taking full advantage of the multi core CPU? How to improve performance in this area?Overall, its very disappointing. I have to go back to LR4 to re-render the slideshows that eventually get exported to a DVD (but that's another story).
Additional information, when I render the slideshow, it looks like LR4 exports using the native executable (no spawned subprocesses), but LR5 spawns a separate process to handle the export/rendering process.

Lightroom :: 3.6 Exporting To CD / DVD Is Very Slow?
Feb 13, 2012I'm using Lightroom 3.6 for Mac and when I export to CD/DVD it takes several minutes to burn the CD. For example, I have about 50 jpg images that I export at 100% quality and at 300 dpi with no watermarks, etc. I can use Finder to burn to disc funtion and I can burn 2 cd's in the time it takes Lightroom to burn. I want to be able to use Lightroom for all my processing from importing to corrections to printing to exporting on CD. When shooting events we take the images in jpg, import and put them into folders for each client. Once the client purchases a CD of all their images we burn the CD. I do not want to use separate software to burn the CD if at possible. Is there settings or something I can change in Lightroom to speed up the process?

Perfectly OK in Library and other modules and had been working perfectly before the glitch. On WIn 8.1 6GB RAM Disk 550GB 1/2 full. Raydon HD3870 card 24 inch screen Set Cache to 30GB, tried with a new small catalog. 1:1 previews. all to no luck. Even repaired LR. Photoshop OK except for slow load. Other graphics programs OK.

Photoshop :: Very Slow Lightroom 4.4 To CS6 In Windows 8?
May 17, 2013I have a problem with my Windows 8 computer. notice that on this computer I did not change any of the default settings in the operating system, it is a clean install of Windows 8. I have also installed the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom directly from my Adobe Application Manager software (I am a Creative Cloud member).
What happens is that I have to wait 30-50 seconds after I give, in Lightroom, the command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS6" (I have the software in Italian and I hope that this translation is correct. Here is the command that I am using:
The very strange thing that happens is that Photoshop opens fast (5 seconds, I have an SSD) and Lightroom is very fast too. Here is the strange thing. Photoshop opens after I launch the command.
Then nothing seems to happen for 30-50 seconds (sometimes also more time). After this “long” period of time this error appears in Lightroom:
It says: "you can't modify this file because Photoshop CS6 can't be started". However, this is not true! Photoshop is running correctly, and it was running! This happens if Photoshop was started from Lightroom and if Photoshop was running before Lightroom command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS".
Another strange thing is that, after I press "OK" to this error message, the file immediately opens in Photoshop!
notice that this behavior happens also with a series of file. If, for example, I export 10 files from Lighroom, then, after about one minute, I get 10 error messages in Lightroom, and, when I press OK, the files will open in Photoshop (for each "OK" that I press a file opens, so I have to press 10 times OK to open my 10 files!).

Bridge handles the previews so fast and it is so much nicer going through with that program, but I'd like to move my workflow to LR4 solely. Mar 9, 2012Using LR4 (not the Beta) processing JPEGS in the web gallery module seems to be taking about 5-TIMES as long as in LR 3 (or processing the same set of JPEGS to the same size and quality in Develop module in LR4).
I'm not a software engineer, but I would have thought that processing a large set of images using the same spec would be an excellent opportunity to utilise multi-core processors, and that doesn't seem to be happening on my system:

Lightroom :: Slow When Use The Modifier Brush?
Oct 18, 2013I started to edit a picture with the brush. I refined the selection of my area. More I refined, more Lightroom was slow. I have only this brush modifier on this picture. I created dynamic snapshot & 1:1 snapshot during the import of this picture. My RAW is located on a network NAS et my catalog is on my SSD.
My PC config : SSD, Intel i7 Quad core, 8Gb RAM, Nvidia GTX 560 Ti.
My config is good for me to edit only one picture.
Lightroom :: 4.1 Corrupted And Slow Catalogs
Jun 25, 2012I know there are lots of LR4 performance issues floating around, but I havent been having the normal develope modue issues. My issues are more related to general catalog loading and responsivene
Basically my catalogs tend to slow down drastically over a couple days of useage until they are pretty much useless. When I first import in a catalog they seem to be pretty quick, previews load correctly and when i go to develope it loads up in a couple seconds. Give it a couple days or a few hours of useage though and all of a sudden the catalog will refuse to load images that were not already in cache and trying to open an image will cause the LR to come to a hault and just sit there. If you leave it for a few hours it will eventually load them up usually. I have lost a couple catalogs to this issue. Closing the program and reopening usually results in LR not opening at all. Windows wont even let me kill LR through taskmanager sometimes. I usually have to log out and log back in, but sometimes it will still say the catalog is currently in use.
Running window7 64bit, i7 2700k, 16bg ram, intel 320 ssd (os, LR, and LR raw cache 8gb), nvidia 240gtx, images drive is a seagate 7200k 2TB drive. Raw files are from a d800 and d700. Seems to be more issues with the d800 files though.
I honestly have gotten to the point where I have to back up my catalogs as jpegs daily and often times to complete a wedding I need to use 2-3 different catalogs. LR3 had no issues at all on the same system.
Consider a full OS wipe and restore, or trying to convert to DNGs before editing.
