I have just upgraded to LR 4 RC2 and found that it took two hours!! to import NEF files from my Lexar 400X 8Gb CF UDMA card....I did several trials and it seems that the problem appears when I set some keywords before starting the import procedure. When I put no keywords at all, Import runs as fast as with the previous version of LR4..
View 2 RepliesIn the blink of an eye, importing pics all of a sudden has become super slow. It now takes 5x longer to importing off of memory card. Also having issues with plugins I use for B&W & HDR.
Not certain what to do. Seems Catalog got jacked up somehow and no clue what to do to remedy it.
This evening I wanted to import a series of images from my card reader using LR (just updated to 5.2 from the 5.2RC); I have ~240 images to import. I always have LR set to convert to DNG on import, and also to save a backup of the original raw file (NEF) onto a separate HDD at the same time. LR has always been pretty fast to carry out this process: normally just a few minutes are required for that amount of images (not including rendering previews once the DNGs are imported). However, today it's suddenly become painfully slow - as I type this, it's so far managed to import a mere 58 images, having so far taken about an hour and twenty minutes! Each image is being added one at a time, with a long pause before the next one clocks up in the 'current import' folder. I've never seen such slow performance with LR before.
I wonder if this is a bug connected to the final release of 5.2? I doubt it, as I would have expected to have heard about this by now, but you never know...
I have recently - in the past few days - set up a number (at least 80) of new smart collections that pick up raw images taken at specific focal lengths, as well as another set picking up specific apertures used for each raw shot in the catalogue (unlike the majority of my pre-existing smart collections, these new collections are purely there for interest really - nice to see which focal lengths are the most used for example - but don't serve as an aid to any specific workflow). In short, I've greatly increased the number of smart collections running in my catalogue. Would having a significant number of smart collections slow down the image ingestion process? For example, is LR updating individual smart collections on the fly as images are imported, and thus having to pick through each collection in order to complete the import (I'd always assumed that this would all be added to a central index in the catalogue that the smart collections feed from, but perhaps there are multiple indexes, one for each smart collection)?
I guess the other possible cause could be a corrupt catalogue, although both the catalogue integrity check and optimisation complete without a hitch and everything else seems to be fine.
I'm on Win7 x64, running the LR catalogue and previews from an SSD (with images stored on a separate HDD), with an i7 3770K CPU, 16GB RAM, and an AMD 5850 Radeon graphics card.
Got the new Nikon D610 and was forced to purchase lightroom 5 to read my RAW files. (although 4 was just fine besides this file issue) Then i discover that 5 does not support this raw file type yet, so i download 5.3. Program seems to be working fine, not unusually slow, but the import speed for the files is excessivly slow. Im clocking it at around 1 minute per photo based on 24 minutes for 26 photos. This problem is not with the larger file size from the new camera. I tried importing some RAW files from a D7000 and the time was only slightly faster. This problem is with Lightroom 5.3 importing.

When I try to import them, they are greyed out and no allowing me to import. I saved them as dng files on a flash drive to move them over.

Have recently had to restore Lightroom and upgrade to ver 4.0.Problem is when try to import new photo, the photos go to subfolder I specify, but the tag/label in Lightroom goes some other place under pictures not the sub folder.

using a nikon coolscan V ed negative scanner and vuescan software. no difference in naming of files between imported ones and unimported ones. again, all files successfully scanned into My Pictures.
I've got a boatload of PSD files in Aperture with keywords and other metadata. I want to import these into LR5.
Aperture will not (AFAIK) write the metadata I have in Aperture to the files themselves since they are PSDs. But it does write to XMP files, so I exported a test batch, PSD + sidecar of same name to a folder. I go to import that folder into LR5 and it works, except no metadata.
I checked the metadata in the sidecars with a text editor; it's there.
I tried the Metadata>Read Metadata from File menu; nothing.
When LR3 is installed, it will not import my CR2 files. tried an un-install and still no results. when i install LR3.5 on laptop (without Lion) everything works fine. what is going on?

After restarting the system, I could view thumbnails and also could import files in to LR4.I enjoyed using vibration etc and it is easy to export (to H264) in comparison to cs5 PP. Now 2nd day onwards, I am not able to view thumbnails(video files) for importing nor files could be imported.Files already imported work fine with thumbnails. (Thumbnails while importing Video files are being displayed normally in LR3 without any problem)

I've been trying for quite a while, and while the video files show up for import, the raw files do not. 0 files listed. I'm simply trying to use the Import button in the Library, and selecting the 60d camera from the list while it is USB connected to my machine.

Also have the entire Adobe Master Collection CS5 installed (and fully updated as of this AM). Memory card was formatted in the camera itself. Canon's DPP has no trouble importing the files via the EOS Utility, and I see the camera/SD card in Windows Explorer as a drive letter, so I know it's recognized.
Camera is fully firmware updated (1.10).
When the import "Preferences" changed.When I import DNGs, it COPIES them to another HDD and I cannot find out how to stop this.When I go to Preferences I do not see any way to change this. I am about ready to uninstall and reinstall.

Some / half of the files will import from the memory card, but at some point in the import process I get an error message that reads "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read" . Then I am unable to import the remaining files at all.
I'm running Lightroom 5 on OSX 10.8.
I have been getting this problem for the past 6 weeks. Usually If I shut down Lightroom, restart computer and begin the imprt process again, this second import will work fine. I put it down as a bug that wasn't a big deal, because after 2 or 3 import attempts everything would be OK.
But now Lightroom won't import my final 130 images at all. So far I have
- deleted the Lightrom preference file (it didn't work)
- tried different USB ports, cables and card readers (it didn't work)
- checked my permissions on the destination folder and disk, and confirmed that they are "Read and Write"
I don't think the files are the problem as I have been able to import 400 of the 600 RAW files from the memory card so far.
LR has been working fine and now nothing. NEF files will not import on my Mac.

Lightroom sees them fine until I try to import. It's not the card as I'm able to import them into the Macbook with no issues. Could this be a licensing issue with the new Mac mini?

So, FILE - IMPORT PHOTOS AND VIDEO And then I import on my external hard drive.The thing that buggles my mind : At a certain point in the import, LR changes the color tempretaure of some some files !So, the first 63 first images imported are at the right temperature and then, all the rest is wrong. I went and open the CF files on the FINDER, and all the files are at the accurate color temperature on the card itself.

I am having a problem where just a few of my files show heavy magenta banding after importing into Lightroom 4.1. I am importing RAW files from a Nikon D800. I don't think it's the camera because most of my files are fine. And I don't think it's the files themselves either because they look fine in camera, in finder (Mac OS X 10.6), in Photoshop CS5 and even in Lightroom 4.1 itself at the import preview. But once I actually import the photos, they suddenly become corrupt and show heavy magenta banding. I've removed the files from the catalog and the HDD several times and attempted to re-import several times without success. And of course there are several attempts at restarting the iMac and running hardware checkers etc. to eliminate extra variables. It's only 5 or 6 files out of maybe 30.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIn my Lightroom catalogue, I often need to open a raw (dng) file in Photoshop, work on it there and save the result as a jpeg. The jpeg is then sent to a client after which I have no further use for it, so normally I would delete it. However I find that every time I 'save as' in Photoshop, Lightroom imports that file into its database. The only exception is if I choose 'save for web' in Photoshop. I'm told that this behaviour is wrong - that LR shouldn't automatically import these images.

I have pics to import from cards, one card loaded no problem, the next card brought up the images and when I go to import them I recieve a message saying "Some Import Operations Were not Performed." giving me the following 2 errors (1) and (563)last night it was (1) and (504) and (505). Seems like it is reading the images as it pulls them up, just not moving them. I have reviewed everything from Permissions to loading the cards with no problem in LR4.
