Lightroom :: Magenta Banding On Some Files After Importing?
Jul 14, 2012
I am having a problem where just a few of my files show heavy magenta banding after importing into Lightroom 4.1. I am importing RAW files from a Nikon D800. I don't think it's the camera because most of my files are fine. And I don't think it's the files themselves either because they look fine in camera, in finder (Mac OS X 10.6), in Photoshop CS5 and even in Lightroom 4.1 itself at the import preview. But once I actually import the photos, they suddenly become corrupt and show heavy magenta banding. I've removed the files from the catalog and the HDD several times and attempted to re-import several times without success. And of course there are several attempts at restarting the iMac and running hardware checkers etc. to eliminate extra variables. It's only 5 or 6 files out of maybe 30.
I have just moved to LR4.1 from a bridge/PS6 workflow. I am having issues with the prints having a magenta cast. I have a colour managed workflow (Eizo ColourEdge monitor, Datacolour calibration, Epsom R3000 using paper manufacturers icc profiles). The magenta cast is happening when printing through LR4 using the papers icc profile. Same file is fine when printed with the same profile through CS6.
My Nikon D7000 raw files all have a magenta cast to them when imported into Adobe Lightroom 3.5, and I wasn't shooting on multiple exposure. I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and have Adobe Photoshop CS4 as well as a trial version of Adobe Lightroom 3.5 (testing to see if I would like to buy as I can't read my raw files in CS4).
If I convert my raw files to DNG, and then view them using camera raw (CS4), the magenta cast is gone. However, if I view those same DNG files with Lightroom, they have the magenta cast. I have tried re-importing my catalog, but every time they all have the same strong magenta cast.
I shoot in Camera RAW on a Canon 5D2 in LR3 and I'm having colour issues; skin tones are often purple/magenta tinted and very difficult to correct. I usually set the WB to Custom and shoot a grey card and set the picture style on the camera to Neutral (why does the WB affect RAW images anyway, I thought it only operated on the jpgs?)
On import, pics often look ok then resolve into higher contrast, garish colour versions which are less pleasing - have I set a preference incorrectly or am I missing something else?
LR4.2 gives some ugly magenta color cast on deep shadows especially at high iso pictures. Nikon Capture NX2 gives them too, but not so heavy. If I push the shadows at iso 1600, they are all magenta. Is it related to the beta state of the D600 support? My D700 is at iso 3200 in deep shadows completely black (only luminance noise), even pushed. Is there a possibility to correct that issue with LR (high iso blackpoint correction)? The shadow color tint correction from the calibration option is not really a solution, because it does not only correct the deep shadows, so the other shadows get a green tint.
Right now I am working on a Win 7 64 computer and have a Canon MP810 printer. I read the materials on color management and set my color management in "Print" in Lightroom 4 to "managed by printer". My printer color management in advanced settings is set all to defaults. When I print a photo from Lightroom 4, there is a distinct magenta cast to the entire photo, but it's most observable in midtone neutrals. A burnt out section of a lightbulb goes white, for instance, but greys seem to go pinkish, greens to a rust, etc. I also printed the same photo from a windows file, using Windows 7 print mode. That photo seemed to go slightly magenta in the neutrals but not nearly to the same degree. what I might try or test to see if I can get my print colors more accurate?
I have a Canon Rebel XS 1000D that I have been recently shooting RAW images with. However, when I go to import the .cr2 files into LR, it says that it does not recognize the format.
I am shooting raw (D800), importing with import settings set as none or zeroed and when they open in LR the image is clearly processed (as if it was auto toned or something) where is the flat raw image i deserve?
I upgraded to LR3.6 today for LR3. Now Lightroom cannot read any files I try to import. I tried re-installing. Would it be safe to overwrite 3.6 with 3.0?
I started editing a session on my laptop using LR3. I now want to move them to my desktop and edit them on LR4. (I know I need to make them the same version, but alas...) When I try to import them, they are greyed out and no allowing me to import. I saved them as dng files on a flash drive to move them over.
I have setup multiple folders for each year under Pictures in Windows 7. Have recently had to restore Lightroom and upgrade to ver 4.0.Problem is when try to import new photo, the photos go to subfolder I specify, but the tag/label in Lightroom goes some other place under pictures not the sub folder.
I am using Lightroom 5.2 on a Mac with Fusion Drive and always have issues importing DNG files into Lightroom. Any potential causes for this? I see the white bar showing it is importing but it never finishes and I end up having to close lightroom and try again. The images are stored on my desktop.
"preview Unavailable"did some more shooting today and same thing.when I downlaoded yesterday the images were not there, so I did a fresh import & it tells me there are no new images for import as I have 'don't import suspected duplicates ticked. I unticked this option and selectively imported the missing files - they came up but next to a duplicate thumbnail had that ?
successfully scanning photos into My Pictures. have been able to import first batch into LR3 but having a problem with the last half. i get the following message on the problem files " preview unavailable for this file". when i double click the file i get the following message "could not read preview".
using a nikon coolscan V ed negative scanner and vuescan software. no difference in naming of files between imported ones and unimported ones. again, all files successfully scanned into My Pictures.
I've got a boatload of PSD files in Aperture with keywords and other metadata. I want to import these into LR5.
Aperture will not (AFAIK) write the metadata I have in Aperture to the files themselves since they are PSDs. But it does write to XMP files, so I exported a test batch, PSD + sidecar of same name to a folder. I go to import that folder into LR5 and it works, except no metadata.
I checked the metadata in the sidecars with a text editor; it's there.
I tried the Metadata>Read Metadata from File menu; nothing.
I have just upgraded to LR 4 RC2 and found that it took two hours!! to import NEF files from my Lexar 400X 8Gb CF UDMA card....I did several trials and it seems that the problem appears when I set some keywords before starting the import procedure. When I put no keywords at all, Import runs as fast as with the previous version of LR4..
When LR3 is installed, it will not import my CR2 files. tried an un-install and still no results. when i install LR3.5 on laptop (without Lion) everything works fine. what is going on?
After installation of LR4 Beta,Thumnails of Video files(AVCHD) were not generated. After restarting the system, I could view thumbnails and also could import files in to LR4.I enjoyed using vibration etc and it is easy to export (to H264) in comparison to cs5 PP. Now 2nd day onwards, I am not able to view thumbnails(video files) for importing nor files could be imported.Files already imported work fine with thumbnails. (Thumbnails while importing Video files are being displayed normally in LR3 without any problem)
Importing .cr2 files from a Canon 60d into Lightroom 4, or any other version of LR? I've been trying for quite a while, and while the video files show up for import, the raw files do not. 0 files listed. I'm simply trying to use the Import button in the Library, and selecting the 60d camera from the list while it is USB connected to my machine.
Details:
Lightroom version: 4.0 [814577] (Adobe Camera Raw 7 installed also) Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
Also have the entire Adobe Master Collection CS5 installed (and fully updated as of this AM). Memory card was formatted in the camera itself. Canon's DPP has no trouble importing the files via the EOS Utility, and I see the camera/SD card in Windows Explorer as a drive letter, so I know it's recognized.
When the import "Preferences" changed. When I import DNGs, it COPIES them to another HDD and I cannot find out how to stop this. When I go to Preferences I do not see any way to change this. I am about ready to uninstall and reinstall.
I am having trouble importing RAW CR2 files from Canon 5D and 7D into Lightroom.
Some / half of the files will import from the memory card, but at some point in the import process I get an error message that reads "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read" . Then I am unable to import the remaining files at all.
I'm running Lightroom 5 on OSX 10.8.
I have been getting this problem for the past 6 weeks. Usually If I shut down Lightroom, restart computer and begin the imprt process again, this second import will work fine. I put it down as a bug that wasn't a big deal, because after 2 or 3 import attempts everything would be OK.
But now Lightroom won't import my final 130 images at all. So far I have
- deleted the Lightrom preference file (it didn't work) - tried different USB ports, cables and card readers (it didn't work) - checked my permissions on the destination folder and disk, and confirmed that they are "Read and Write"
I don't think the files are the problem as I have been able to import 400 of the 600 RAW files from the memory card so far.
I recently upgraded to a new Mac mini. I migrated from a Macbook Pro. It seemed to work fine at first but now I'm getting this error:
Lightroom sees them fine until I try to import. It's not the card as I'm able to import them into the Macbook with no issues. Could this be a licensing issue with the new Mac mini?
I work with a Sandisk 32g card connected to a Sandisk Card reader.I work on a MacBookPro.I have the latest Lightroom 4.1I start importing from within LR. So, FILE - IMPORT PHOTOS AND VIDEO And then I import on my external hard drive. The thing that buggles my mind : At a certain point in the import, LR changes the color tempretaure of some some files !So, the first 63 first images imported are at the right temperature and then, all the rest is wrong. I went and open the CF files on the FINDER, and all the files are at the accurate color temperature on the card itself.
The hard drive on which I kept my LR library recently crashed. I need to import my files to LR from my backup HD. Is there a way to do this without creating duplicates and preserving the LR edits?
Importing files to a flash drive-when I hit import it says files are missing, I`m looking at the files in LR and my Windows picture folder, The names match, already checked that!
I am importing RAW files using LR4. Some images come up blank, from the same CF card, when other appear perfectly. These can be seen when viewed on the camera.
Locating the images through the '?' icon achieves nothing.
In my Lightroom catalogue, I often need to open a raw (dng) file in Photoshop, work on it there and save the result as a jpeg. The jpeg is then sent to a client after which I have no further use for it, so normally I would delete it. However I find that every time I 'save as' in Photoshop, Lightroom imports that file into its database. The only exception is if I choose 'save for web' in Photoshop. I'm told that this behaviour is wrong - that LR shouldn't automatically import these images.
