Lightroom :: Cannot Open These Files In Thumbnail
Jan 9, 2012I am a Silkypixs (SP) user and have a trial copy of Lightroom 3.6. Two questions for this audiance....
1) I have a pentax k5 and it produces AVI files for video. Lightroom cannot open these files in thumbnail and produces an error message that stalls the import process. IP there something that can be done about this? This is a critical issue to me and my impact my final purchase decision.
2) I am not used to using an import process. SP would open the files in the existing drive and then process the files. I would then write to an alternative drive. If I am reading the LR process correctly, I am opening in the existing drive then importing to a designtate drive before processing the raw images. Then I write the resulting images to another drive. If that is the case, I am creating two copies of the image (one raw, one jpeg) on my hard drive. Is that correct?

May 17, 2012In the import window I'm making a new map called 'ART' I select my pictures and import the pictures.
But after importing I can't see the map 'ART' anymore. Only the map of the date I made the pictures.
Why the map ART is hidden?

Feb 19, 2013I am trying to import some jpg files into organiser from a windows folders. What turns up in organiser is a thumbnail (there is no image) for each photo. Properties indicate that it is the correct jpg. I can open the file in Elements. There is something about the files that is causing the problem. Moving the file to another folder makes no difference.

Aug 7, 2012When I create a picture with my (Nikon) camera in the TIFF format, it appears that the picture file contains in addition to the full blown picture, a reduced version of the picture, something like a large thumbnail vrsion of the picture. I found it by trying to create a PDF file of the .TIFF file - Acrobat created a two page file, one with the full picture and one with the reduced picture. It looks that I can't tell the camera not to embbed the thumbnail version.
how to eliminate that thumbnail version from the .TIFF file. Must be somewhere (hopfully one) location in the file that when modifying it it eliminates the thumbnail picture from Acrobat's view into the .TIFF file.
As to the question why not simply erase that undesired page from the PDF file - the answer is that I actually going to assemble many (hundreds) such pictures into one PDF file. Acrobat will put all those pictures such that each main picture will be followed by its own thumbnail and therefore I will have to select manually each single thumbnail page before erasing them, extremely tedious. If I could process it at the individual .TIFF file as describrd above, I could easily write a program that does this modification to all my .TIFF files with one invokation.

Nov 28, 2013How can I view the thumbnail picture on a .psd file in CS6. All I get is a blue box with psd/PS on it instead of the picture that's on that file. This is very annoying because if I'm looking for a specific .psd file I have to look on my picture viewing software, find out what the file name is and then pull it up on photoshop. I have CS3 and I have no problem seeing the picture.

Jun 18, 2012successfully scanning photos into My Pictures. have been able to import first batch into LR3 but having a problem with the last half. i get the following message on the problem files " preview unavailable for this file". when i double click the file i get the following message "could not read preview".
using a nikon coolscan V ed negative scanner and vuescan software. no difference in naming of files between imported ones and unimported ones. again, all files successfully scanned into My Pictures.

Sep 3, 2013I've got a boatload of PSD files in Aperture with keywords and other metadata. I want to import these into LR5.
Aperture will not (AFAIK) write the metadata I have in Aperture to the files themselves since they are PSDs. But it does write to XMP files, so I exported a test batch, PSD + sidecar of same name to a folder. I go to import that folder into LR5 and it works, except no metadata.
I checked the metadata in the sidecars with a text editor; it's there.
I tried the Metadata>Read Metadata from File menu; nothing.

After restarting the system, I could view thumbnails and also could import files in to LR4.I enjoyed using vibration etc and it is easy to export (to H264) in comparison to cs5 PP. Now 2nd day onwards, I am not able to view thumbnails(video files) for importing nor files could be imported.Files already imported work fine with thumbnails. Apr 24, 2012Importing .cr2 files from a Canon 60d into Lightroom 4, or any other version of LR? I've been trying for quite a while, and while the video files show up for import, the raw files do not. 0 files listed. I'm simply trying to use the Import button in the Library, and selecting the 60d camera from the list while it is USB connected to my machine.
Details:
Lightroom version: 4.0 [814577] (Adobe Camera Raw 7 installed also)
Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
Also have the entire Adobe Master Collection CS5 installed (and fully updated as of this AM). Memory card was formatted in the camera itself. Canon's DPP has no trouble importing the files via the EOS Utility, and I see the camera/SD card in Windows Explorer as a drive letter, so I know it's recognized.
Camera is fully firmware updated (1.10).

Nov 3, 2013I am having trouble importing RAW CR2 files from Canon 5D and 7D into Lightroom.
Some / half of the files will import from the memory card, but at some point in the import process I get an error message that reads "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read" . Then I am unable to import the remaining files at all.
I'm running Lightroom 5 on OSX 10.8.
I have been getting this problem for the past 6 weeks. Usually If I shut down Lightroom, restart computer and begin the imprt process again, this second import will work fine. I put it down as a bug that wasn't a big deal, because after 2 or 3 import attempts everything would be OK.
But now Lightroom won't import my final 130 images at all. So far I have
- deleted the Lightrom preference file (it didn't work)
- tried different USB ports, cables and card readers (it didn't work)
- checked my permissions on the destination folder and disk, and confirmed that they are "Read and Write"
I don't think the files are the problem as I have been able to import 400 of the 600 RAW files from the memory card so far.

So, FILE - IMPORT PHOTOS AND VIDEO And then I import on my external hard drive.The thing that buggles my mind : At a certain point in the import, LR changes the color tempretaure of some some files !So, the first 63 first images imported are at the right temperature and then, all the rest is wrong. I went and open the CF files on the FINDER, and all the files are at the accurate color temperature on the card itself.
