Lightroom :: 5 - Poor Performance On Slideshow Save As Video (MP4)

Jul 17, 2013

Installed Lightroom 5 upgrade.  On LR 4 I can export a 55 slideshow as MP4 with 1080p preset using all four cores on a win7-64 (Intel I7) in about 6-8 min (used 70-80% processor).  In LR5, the CPU never goes above 15% processor and takes 45-50 minutes. I can flip between the two (not at the same time) to test. Luckily, no catalog changes other than what the automatic conversion did.

Interestingly, I see a ".aac" and ".m4v" in the destination directory during the rendering process (they eventually goes away and are replaced by the ".mp4" at the end of the rendering export process).

Why LR5 is not taking full advantage of the multi core CPU? How to improve performance in this area?Overall, its very disappointing.  I have to go back to LR4 to re-render the slideshows that eventually get exported to a DVD (but that's another story).

Additional information, when I render the slideshow, it looks like LR4 exports using the native executable (no spawned subprocesses), but LR5 spawns a separate process to handle the export/rendering process.

Lightroom :: Slideshow Export As Video Does Not Save Transition Timings?

Jul 24, 2012

Recently I have decided to give client viewings of their wedding photographs rather than an online gallery as I feel it's more personal and has better impact on a large TV screen with added music. I really like the simple LR interface and have gotten around the well known music feature issue by splicing tracks in Audacity. However, the last time I tried to use the 'export to video' function it took about an hour to create 25% of it (370 photos), so I had to abandon it and take the whole PC. This time I left plenty of time and it was running overnight, and yes, a lovely MPEG-4 is now sat in my video files.

I've just played it back and it seems to have lost all the timings that I meticulously spent hours perfecting. The 2.6 second duration I have set is much shorter and now all the slides don't fit with the music. I've been back to check settings when exporting and there are no options at all. Am I missing something or is export to video still in it's infancy?

Photoshop :: Poor Performance On XP64

May 14, 2009

I have just installed CS4 on XP64bit. It seems that the performance of both 32 and 64 bit versions is much lower than under 32 bit XP. Especially, this applies to graphics and GUI rendering. I have installed the latest nVidia driver and applied a registry patch, allowing GPU acceleration but with no result. Will be grateful for any advice. The hardware is Q6600, 8GB of RAM, GeForce 8600GT, at least 100GB of disc space for temp files.

Photoshop :: CS4 Poor Dialog Window Performance With...

Apr 9, 2009

I am running dual 30 inch monitors each one at 2560x1600 resolution, on windows xp sp3 on an nvidia quadro FX 3700M (dell precision M6400 laptop) If I use CS4 from the single laptop screen, everything is fine. However, whenever Im on the huge dual screen desktop any dialog box activity has a very poor performance. For example, I select File>New and the dialog window takes some two to three seconds to draw on the screen... it might not seem like a big problem but it is very very annoying since I am used to the snappy response of the user interface from years of PS use. It really affects my workflow since I work with many files at the same time. Also, the bigger the dialog window the slower it takes to appear. If I select File > Save for Web and Devices, that dialog window will take up to five seconds to appear on the screen. The problem seems to get worse the longer the OS has been working, ie. if the PC is freshly booted the problem seems a bit lighter. So it might be related to video card memory or something. Here's what I have tried so far to solve this:Since what I'm using is a laptop, the driver choices are limited, however I've been able to force install the 181.20 version of the nvidia driver, but it made no difference. All the official driver versions (176 series) from Dell also have the problem. The problem doesn't seem related to Photoshop's use of the GPU as the problem remains while the GPU acceleration disabled. This problem is also present in PS CS3 as well as CS2 CS1 and version 7 which are all I am able to test.I was able to reproduce this problem on a desktop computer with the same setup on an nvidia quadro FX 5500 card. The dialog box window performance is really terrible.I did not notice this problem in any other application that spans the two screens, even high end 3d ones. Ok well it seems from my testing that Photoshop is simply bogged down by having such a huge desktop area to work with.

Lightroom :: Can't Export Slideshow As Video Due To Unknown Error

Aug 17, 2013

I use lightroom to edit the timelapses I shoot and it works brilliantly with the sync setting. But my problem is I use presets that call for the slideshow to move at 24 fps, 26fps, 30fps etc. and some of these time lapses contain over 300 photos and whenever I try to export the timelapse as a video from the slideshow module about an 8th of the way into the progress bar it stops and a message comes up that says "unknown error occurred" So my question would be: Is there a maximum number of slides you can have in a slideshow and is that what's causing this to happen?

VideoStudio :: Unexpectedly Poor Video Quality

Sep 25, 2012

Brand new to VideoStudio or any other video editing software.

I used VideoStudio X5's screen capture feature to create a couple of training videos for our church. When viewed on their own, the videos look excellent - the screen captures are sharp and clear. But when I use those same captures in a video project - with an opening title and a couple of transitions - the capture videos are grainy, the text of the Web pages included in them almost unreadable.

As I said, I am new to this stuff, so the explanation for what I'm experiencing is possibly quite simple. Nonetheless, why the capture videos look great when I view them on their own, but become blurry when they are part of a project?

Premiere Pro :: Poor Video Quality When Editing

When capturing HDV clip with Premier Pro CC and playing it in the timeline, the video plays very choppy (bounces) and vertical lines flicker (drapes, edges if doors, etc...). It also seems like it is playing too fast (?). I play the exact same captured clip in Windows Media Player, and it look great.

My Canon was set at HDV 60i

Photoshop :: Why Do Video Transitions Have Poor Quality On Playback

Oct 26, 2013

I've created a slide show using layers and have created a video group. This turns the layers into clips in the timeline. I've added a cross-fade transition between each clip in the timeline.

Everything plays back nicely in PS. When I export to mp4 and play it back in Quicktime, no matter what the magnification, the transitions look horrible. Even if I freeze frame on one it's horribly pixelated. I've tried different export options with the same results. Something appears to be happening during rendering the transitions, as if PS doesn't know how to create them. I export to:

Adobe Media Encoder
H.264
High Quality
1920 x 1080 (same as my file)
Frame Rate 30 fps
Field Order: Preset (Progressive)
Range = All Frames

My stats are:
PS CS6
iMac 27"
10.6.8
800 gigs free space
12 gigs ram 8 free

VideoStudio :: Poor Quality Result From Editing HD Video

Nov 8, 2012

I am trying to produce a DVD for private use only from a recording of a free-to-air TV one-off program. The program was recorded by my PVR set-top box that we use to convert the digital (HD, I *think*!) signal for our old analog TVs.

After quite a lot of work - due more to my lack of expertise than anyhting else - I have a VideoStudio project that seems to play quite nicely on the PC.

However, when I burn a DVD, the result is very jerky and flickery - to me, it seems as if the frame speed is too slow.

On one attempt, I noticed that the final .VOB file was only about 2GB - 51 minutes of video - and I decided to try increasing the video bitrate (I think that's what it was). The new .VOB file was a little over 4GB, so I expected the quality to be better.

Not so! In fact (without being able to play the two DVDs at the same time) I think it might be even worse at the higher bitrate.

Premiere Pro :: Export Media - Video Quality Is Poor?

Apr 8, 2014

Using a Macbook Pro, 2.6 GHz i7 8MB RAM

1) Importing 1920 x 1440 GoPro footage, .mp4, 29.97 fps : What sequence settings do I need for this media? I can't find any presets that match it. So I just pick a 1440 x 1080 sequence. What should I be doing?

2) Exporting Media quality is very poor and pixelated. I am just importing a video into a sequence and exporting about 10 seconds at a time with different export settings: H.264/Match Source, Quicktime, H.264-Blu ray with different presets. And I'm checking "USe max render quality". Every time it renders very pixelated.

Lightroom :: How To Save 4 Metadata On Video Files

Mar 10, 2012

I've just had a problem with LR4. Instaled the full version a few days ago on my old computer. Just got a new computer where I instaled LR4 and imported all my latest work and noticed that all video (.mov) metadata were not saved on to files (Photos are OK!!!) So all editing and rating/flags/color filter I've done is gone.

Thought that I forgot to save Metadata on my old computer and did a couple of tests.

I did some rating and some color filters on my actual catalog then saved the metadata a couple of times. Removed from the Library and re-imported and the metadata were not there again. Did the same to Photos and is fine!

LR4 does not write XMP to video files?

Just lost hours of work on cuting and rating a video Job since my old computer is gone.

Lightroom :: Poor Quality Watermarks From LR3?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm working on a project where I need to export hundreds of custom images for use on a website. Each image needs to have a watermark on it. So I created the watermark in Illustrator, then placed it into a 900 pixel x 900 pixel file and saved for web as a PNG-24 with transparency.

When I export images form LR3 using the above graphic as a watermark the image quality is great, but the watermark has rough edges and is pixelated at any setting under 2500 pixels. I need to output down as small as 150, 225 and 250 pixels. I can do this in photoshop and the watermark looks great. Yet from LR the quality is noticably bad. See the attached file.

how to improve the quality of the watermark?

Paint Shop Pro :: Created SlideShow Video Won't Play On DVRs?

Aug 20, 2011

I have PSP X3...we are having a family reunion, and decided to create a DVD slideshow of past and present family members to show on a TV screen. The idea was to use a DVD player to play the slideshow, and hopefully be able to give out DVDs of the slideshow to family members at the reunion.

We have been able to create the slideshows using Project Creator: the slideshow consists of typical jpg files scanned using a typical scanner/printer of old photographs. The slideshow is a default .AVI container, which all 3 DVD players we have tried to use state they support AVI. However, none of the DVD players have been able to play the slideshow, saying "disc error", or "disc is not compatible for playing or recording".

My question is, do we need to use the actual Corel PSP X3 program, in order to make the slideshow work? We are able to connect a laptop to a widescreen TV for showing at the reunion, but this would kill our ability to hand out DVDs of the slideshow to family members, as they would 1) need a PC, and 2) need Corel PSP X3 in order to make the slideshow play.

Surely there should be a way to make the video play for typical DVD player support. We have used a Sony, Panasonic, and a Memorex DVD player, with the 1st two options being fairly new, DVR devices.

If I print an image in LR 5 and then export the same image to PS and print it (all settings the same), the PS image is almost spot on.  The LR5 image is very bad, being much darker and bluer.
