Jul 17, 2013Installed Lightroom 5 upgrade. On LR 4 I can export a 55 slideshow as MP4 with 1080p preset using all four cores on a win7-64 (Intel I7) in about 6-8 min (used 70-80% processor). In LR5, the CPU never goes above 15% processor and takes 45-50 minutes. I can flip between the two (not at the same time) to test. Luckily, no catalog changes other than what the automatic conversion did.
Interestingly, I see a ".aac" and ".m4v" in the destination directory during the rendering process (they eventually goes away and are replaced by the ".mp4" at the end of the rendering export process).
Why LR5 is not taking full advantage of the multi core CPU? How to improve performance in this area?Overall, its very disappointing. I have to go back to LR4 to re-render the slideshows that eventually get exported to a DVD (but that's another story).
Additional information, when I render the slideshow, it looks like LR4 exports using the native executable (no spawned subprocesses), but LR5 spawns a separate process to handle the export/rendering process.

Lightroom :: Slideshow Export As Video Does Not Save Transition Timings?
Jul 24, 2012Recently I have decided to give client viewings of their wedding photographs rather than an online gallery as I feel it's more personal and has better impact on a large TV screen with added music. I really like the simple LR interface and have gotten around the well known music feature issue by splicing tracks in Audacity.However, the last time I tried to use the 'export to video' function it took about an hour to create 25% of it (370 photos), so I had to abandon it and take the whole PC. This time I left plenty of time and it was running overnight, and yes, a lovely MPEG-4 is now sat in my video files.
I've just played it back and it seems to have lost all the timings that I meticulously spent hours perfecting. The 2.6 second duration I have set is much shorter and now all the slides don't fit with the music. I've been back to check settings when exporting and there are no options at all. Am I missing something or is export to video still in it's infancy?

Lightroom :: Save Multiple Crop Settings For Single Image?
Apr 30, 2012Let me start by describing my needs. I need to generate proofs for my shoots. I'd like to export images with different aspect ratios for target devices, ie iPad, Android phone, 16:9 TV, etc. What would be really great is if I can select a named "crop setting" in the export window and generate JPGs based on the chosen setting. I've searched all over the place, all seem to talk about presets, virtual copies, etc, which really doesn't address what I want.
Fundamentally I'd like to be able to save a handful of crop settings (unique crops but with common names) for each image. I will create the crops manually as I have to pick the position and size for each carefully. For example, on a 4000x6000 image I have these crop settings (for a fairly small area of the image):
1. iPad [settings: top-left coordinate (500,500), ratio 4:3, width2000]
2. Android [settings: top-left coordinate (500,400), ratio 8:5, width 2400]
3. HDTV [settings: top-left coordinate(500,450), ratio 16:9, width 2200]
As you can see each crop is different becasue I want to be precise about how the cropped outputs look. Then at export time, I want to be able to multi-select a bunch of images and pick say "iPad" crop setting to create the JPGs in a batch.
Is there a custom plugin outside of Lightroom that can handle this?

Lightroom :: Does LR4 Initially Preview At Specific Settings / Change To Individual Image Settings
May 2, 2012I’m a long time Photoshop user but recently picked up LR4 to try to fine tune my workflow. I’ve noticed that after importing new files (RAW, I haven’t tried with jpg) into my library as I scroll through them (1-up, not in grid) the preview comes up and then after a second or so the WB changes to a much colder image.
Does LR4 initially preview at specific settings and then change to the individual image settings? Even if so, the final images seem very cool and I feel like I have to up the temp more than I should have to. My previous workflow was to sort in Bridge and then use ACR to import to Photoshop. I feel like I did much less tweaking of my WB this way. I feel like I’m starting from square one with LR4.

Mar 15, 2007After slicing an image, choosing Save For Web, and then choosing one of the jpg presets from the drop down list, then clicking on Save, it shows me in the next "Save Optimized As" window that the Save As Type file type is gif - and there is no jpg on the list that I can choose. Why is my ability to save as jpg slices gone? I've not made any changes to the default settings and I'm not sure how to get it back... I'm only moderately skilled at Photoshop (skilled enough to create my web site mockups and slice and so on...) but if someone could point me in the right direction, or to a tutorial for this process that would be great. Am using Photoshop CS (version 8 or 9?)
On this same note, I have noticed that often the slices (when they worked before) will have weird names such as Layout_12-13 or some such "overlapping" of slice numbers although, from what I can tell the slices do not actually overlap... what is THIS all about?

Oct 30, 2008I am using an sRGB workflow as my output is for the web. I am using a NEC 2690 LCD display which is wide colour gamut but I am using in its factory set sRGB (and non-calibratable) mode. I have calibrated the NEC using my Eye One display and this shows as the default monitor profile in the vga card's driver but what effect it is actually having I am not sure (OS is Vista 32bit). My CS4 colour management settings are based round the sRGB Working Space. Normally I convert to sRGB all images before saving them in Save for Web.
I am trying to ensure that the colours I see in images at the Save for Web stage preview are what I will see on the web and in other non colour managed environments. I am trying to achieve:
Preset: JPEG High
Quality: High
Optimize selected (but not Progressive or Embed Colour Profile)
Convert to sRGB selected
Preview: Use Document Profile
In the past (pre-CS4) I've had problems with images outside of CS3 looking over colour saturated and I want to avoid this now.

May 4, 2012I need to compress about 1,000 jpg images and I'm using the "save for web" feature in Photoshop 7 but I'm running into problems because my file names are very long and its cutting them off. I found the workaround by editing the output settings and unchecking the "Mac OS" box under "Filename Compatibility".
However, the problem is that the default settings do not stay like this once I hit OK and I end up having to uncheck the Mac OS box for each and every file. Is there a way to permanently change the default settings so I can do batch processing for all my images?

The .currentVersion property saves the document with the applicationversions standard saveprofile.
I need some kind of property that reflects the users saveAs settings.
Is there any way getting those information via the .net api without doing the interop stuff?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Does Not Save Profile Settings
Dec 3, 2013I'm running AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014 on Windows 7 Professional. I just got this new computer and the AutoCAD software was recently installed. As I always do when I get a new version of ACAD, I set up my Profile settings within the 'options' menu and save to my personal Profile, and set that profile as current.
Then I pull up all my typical toolbars, Layer manager, Xref manager and all that good stuff to my workspace and save a new workspace with my name, and set that workspace as current.
Now, with this new version of ACAD, every time I restart the program my settings are all gone. Even though my 'options' Profile is still saved in there, it's not set to current, so I have to do that every time. As well as my workspace, which doesn't appear the same way I set it up and saved it as a new workspace:
The ToolSpace, the command bar and the Xref manager disappears every time.
Photoshop :: Missing Default Settings In Save For...
Jul 28, 2008The only settings I get in "Save for Web / Devices" are "Unnamed" and "-----".
Where would these preferences have disappeared to? I don't recall ever seeing the standard options ever since installing the CS3 Master Collection. ImageReady and Photoshop CS3 usually have a few JPG, GIF and PNG options.
Could I download the original settings file somewhere, without reinstalling anything?

Apr 29, 2009I use civil3D 2008 & now have an unexpected problem where the workspace profile settings will not save so that each time I start the program I have to reset everything, even when I open the program a dialogue box opens asking which workspace I want from a list, I select my saved workspace then tick don’t show me this again & then another dialogue box comes up asking me if I want to see the new feature workshop with options of yes, maybe later or No, don’t show me this again, I tick the No, do not show me this again, then the workspace opens up with the performance tuner box in the right hand bottom corner which I have to close, then I have to reset settings in tools/ options to my liking even though my workspace is the current default, the paths are correct & the main civil.CUI file updates each time I shut down the program. However each time I relaunch I have to go through all this again?

Aug 7, 2013X3 - I use X4 at work with no problems but at home I have X3. I set my workspace the way I want it and all my presets the way I want. I hit tools/save stings as default. I then save my workspace as todays date. Close corel and reopen. It starts with the defaults every time! I have to manually choose my workspace and even after doing so my settings have reverted back to default i.e. text to be point not inches like I chose etc.
