I use lightroom to order and do small edits to photos. Alot of the time I will batch a set of photos through a couple actions (photoshop) before I start with lightroom. My problem arises when I (more often than not my colleuge) will start working with the wrong source pictures (either scaled down size or not batched yet). So i've got a collection with all the wrong sized photos as source. So my question is if i replace the picture withe the proper resolution files which are named the same is there a way i can force lighroom to "relink" with the high res versions? I tried deleting the source files with the hope that lightroom would ask me to relink them but it didn't.
is there a method or setting to force LR4 to update the prewies in "bulk", means outside of the grid too?
problem is that when applying development changes on image sequences with hundreds of images, or even a smaller bunch of images LR4 only shows the applied changes in the current grid view.
for updating the previews one has to go back and forth in preview by hand. this seems a bit stone age and can take a while.
this was never a problem in bridge, which - although it took its time to create ALL previews - afterwards allowed for quick scrolling trough images with all previews generated. this was especially good for watching stop-motion movies and applying xmp RAW development changes.
for LR4 RC3, this would be a nice option to have... classic, like it is now, and a "force update previews outside grid view" with a true progress indicator / counter, like with bridge.
an example where we started using lightroom during production and ran exactly into the problem of slow / missing preview updates after applying batch XMP / development changes can be seen here (about 32000 raw files processed, 7500 used for the film)[url].....
A few days ago I updated Lightroom to version 4.3. Since then, the "auto save to xmp" doesn't work. It is checked, but I keep finding files that "have been changed recently". So not only that it's not auto-saving them, but it is also finding "new images" that "have been recently changed" even though I didn't open or edited them in the past several months..
After the OS X 10.8.5 update on my current generation 27' iMac moving 1:1 images results in very low resolution for those areas I am moving to with as long as a two second delay before the image snaps back into full resolution. Not only that but when it snaps back into full resolution you see a shift in alignment and a snapping into place with the nearby area that was already in full resolution. This is awful and is occuring with Lightroom 5 and 5.2.
My iMacs specs are the current generation 27" iMac, i7 3.4 Ghz, 32GB RAM, and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB running OS X 10.8.5.
I have LR 3.6 and have noticed that since LR1, the WB picker does not usually set RGB percentages equally on the first click. It takes several tries of me clicking on the same group of 5x5 pixels of a neutral WhiBal card before the %R=%G=%B (within 0.5% or so).
Usually what happens is I get a close grouping on the first click (say 71.2%R, 72.8%G, 70.6%B). But if I click again on the same group of pixels without moving the mouse, I get another WB (say 71.6%R, 71.0%G, 72.5%B). I keep WB AutoDismiss unchecked,
The gray on the card noticeably changes hue (greenish gray, warmish gray, coolish gray) on each attempt.
Clicking again and again, I (might) finally get a close grouping like (71.3%R, 71.7%G, 70.9%B) in which I call it good. Or I may decide to make fine manual adjustments to the color temperature and tint sliders until I get a perfect match %R=%G=%B (within 0.5% or so).
Why doesn't the wb clicker automatically force %R=%G=%B ?
I'm using Lightroom 4.0 and I'm having problems with the Flickr Publish Service. In the publishing manager, the incorrect login shows and the logout button is non functional. I need to authenicate to Flickr's API with the correct login. I've tried un-installing and re-installing, but to no avail. I have no idea where the plugin picked up the displayed login name from as it's not one that I've ever used. Is there a way that I can force a logout so that I can enter the proper information.
Is there any way to force Snapshots and Virtual Copies to read metadata from the original raw file after an update of the same?
I had to change the lens name on some Leica M9 files to correct an operator (me) error, and I did it by editing the exif data with an exif editor and then forcing LR4 to read the metadata from the file. This worked well for everithing but the snapshots and the virtual copies on which the metadata remain as originally registered, unchanged.
I am going through our block library one block at a time (electrical, fire alarm, intercom, low voltage symbols). I have to scale most of them to be 1=1 rather than 10=1, change the default text style, and make sure I've got consistent sizes.
A problem I've noticed on our tool palette that I insert from is, some of the tool images are so small that you don't see what they are, you have to go by the name.
When / how is this image created? I've tried to zoom extents on the file it's self, save it, then use "update tool image" on the pallet.
When I send a file to Ps from Lr, edit that file then save it, Lr puts that file at the end of the line instead of next to the file I was working on. When you have 600 photos in a down loud, it is a pain to scroll through the photo's to find your place again.
Is there a setting to force the saved file back in line next to the file that was edited in Ps?
During an attempt to align a set of three images in a stack, photoshop crashed with the usual (for me) ati.dll indicated in the Event Viewer. The nice thing about it is after I restarted PS the project was restored, minus the base layer, a transparent layer large enough to allow manual alignment. (Auto Align didn't work in Stacks.)
The management of the importation of externally linked images still has the problem in previous versions.
1) You can't import more than one picture at a time, externally connected simultaneously in the document.
2) If you move the picture within it, in a new folder, there is the possibility of assigning the new path to more 'photos at the same time but only one at a time.
So if I have 100 photos to be updated with the new path I have to do with each photo. While it would be much more logical to assign the same path to more 'selected photos.
It still errors out saying lightroom can't prepare the file, worked fine with all my random applications (Nik, Portraiture, etc.) in 3. Updated all I can figure to, reinstalled, used the CS Cleaner Tool, etc. No dice.
Just updated LR 3.4.1 on a Man to 3.5. After I put the LR.app inti the App-Folder and started LR all of my presets were deleted.
They were saved in the /user/library/application support/etc. folder before and now they're gone (unfortunately I didn't saved my presets within the catalog)
I'm very annoyed about this because I have changed 12 export presets some days ago and haven't ran time machine after it.
I wasn't aware, that an update LR will kill my presets. Is there any way to get them back?
Just installed Lightroom 4, more than 60000 images were imported. Many of them were duplicates, triplets and so on. I want to have a clean, unincombured library. Should I delete the 60000 images and reinstall the images from my photo digital cards or use the slow process of "X" out the unwanted images? I would like to start improving my images vs removing the unwanted images.
I've been having problems selecting images in the library module when multiple images are in view (not down in the timeline, but in the main window). It seems sporadic with which ones it won't let me select, it somehow manages to be the ones that I need to click....!! I just literally can't click it as if it were an image I already imported or something, but it's not grayed out like that. I've been having to select a nearby image then use my arrow keys to navigate to and click the image I need.
Lightroom will not display preview images during import of raw images. Any images in other formats display fine but with raw images I get a gray window the size of the preview image and the words "preview unavailable for this file".
In Lightroom 4.1 when rating (flags, stars or colors) a selected group of images all images selected will have the same flag applied. For instance if I select 10 images to view in the survey mode to compare and select 1 to be flagged as rejected all 10 will be flagged rejected, not just the one. Is there a way to turn this off to select a group of images and flag each differently?
In LR 4.1 i was able to open LR by rightclicking/ open with LR 4, directly from a file in my OLY ORF map. This is no longer possible after updating to 4.2. Windows 7-32 bit.
After updating to LR4 I cannot save new templates or updating existing ones. When saving new templates nothing happens, when trying to update an existing template LR says: "There was an error saving this template."
I updated from LR 4.3 to LR 4.4 and now I can't start lightroom. It hangs at startup with the LR info tile displayed over the main window. This is on Windows 7 64 bit. Windows also has a hard time killing the app/process. Is it possible to safely downgrade to 4.3 ?
I use LR 4.4 (Windows 7, 64-Bit) and i missed unter DEVELOPMENT Lens Adjustments my Nikkor 70-200mm 1:4G ED, only the 70-200mm 2.8 is available. I hope that with Adobe Lens Profile Downloader this could be corrected, but on the download instructions i see that Adobe Air is necessary. This I do not understand. Do I have to buy first Adobe AIR?? Or would it be better to Upgrade from LR 4.4 to LR 5?
Downloaded and attempted to install 4.4 on Windows 7 64x machine.
Received error "shortcut not found" and instruction to see if the shortcut was still there.
Cancelled install.
Went to look for shortcut ... which was there.
Clicking on the shortcut results in error:"The item "lightroom.exe" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so the shortcut will no longer work properly."
LR 4.2 was working fine. I was just getting tired of the constant reminders to update.
I take a lot of images for time laspe sequences andI have just upgraded to LR5 and the issue I am seeing is after inporting or developing the images the only thumbnails that update are those I curently amm looking at in the library. I can scroll down after leaving the machine for hours and they only update when currently scrolled. This is really annoying and just taking ages to do anything. I have downloaded LR5.2 RC but there is no change that I can see.
