I'm working with a couple Illustrator stock patterns. I'd like to simply invert them so they're white instead of black. Any way to do this without actually editing the pattern itself? The one I'm working on is too complex to edit effectively...

I made a pattern in illustrator c6 (lets say simple dots in rows) and I want to color this dots with a swatch (which means a specific color that changes automatically when I change this particular swatch). It does change the color but it also causes a lot of troubles, it makes weird compound paths and illustrator gets very slow...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run three different printing and engraving systems at the same time with my business. Each system needs to have a different color management preset selected or the prints are screwed up. Each time I open a file I have to go to tools..color management ... default settings. and check or change the preset. It seems like half of my day is spent doing this and from time to time I forget and screw up a print. Is there a macro or docker or something that will display what preset is in use on my screen some where and maybe even give me an option to click on it and change the preset? Each file is normally only for one particular system so if there is a way to save the file so that the preset that was used when saving it comes back up when it is opened would be useful too.

Is there a way to adjust the color of a pattern fill without changing the actual pattern?
Sometimes I do this by overlaying another solid color fill on top of the pattern fill, and use multiply or other blend modes. This works except when the pattern contains empty/transparent areas: in this case the solid color would pass through and affect the object below the pattern, which is unwanted.
So basically, is there a way to isolate the color change to a single object? I've tried with "Isolate Blending" and "Knockout Group" with no success...
I have an AI file containing seamless pattern swatches.I'd like to get each swatch vectors (ie : access the swatch groupItem). View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to hatch a complex image with a single pattern, but with different stroke weights.
Here I added an image of a simple greyscale image with below the hatching that I'm trying to make. In short: I want to use only 45 deg. hatches in this direction. However, based on the grey value, I'd like the hatches to have different weights.
However, since this image is quite simple, only four different weights were needed. However, I'd like to know if there is an easy way to do this for complex images. For this image I just used pattern fills with different stroke weights, but I'd like a smoother and easier solution, preferably one where it would be possible to have many different weights without having to split up the image in thirty different parts and making thirty different pattern fills.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but I might be overlooking something. If it would be possible with a plugin, I'd like to know too. Even if there might be a workaround via Photoshop, and the end-result would not be a perfect vector, It'd be fine.
I have set up a 20x20 pixel grid and I want to easily try out a few mockup layouts. No matter what I try, Illustrator simply does not snap to grid. I have to zoom in really close to align each shape.
Surprisingly it does not snap to guides either, leaving me completely hopeless. I have snap to pixel on and all objects are set to align to pixel grid.
How can I easily find a character if its attribute is different from others? There might be some easier way than compare it one by one.

Lets say I have a page fill of objects/shapes/text with all sorts of different colors.
I select the black color (or whatever color) but would actually like to select ALL colors other than the black color that I have selected.
So, if I have a page with Black, Red, Green & Blue shapes, I select an object colored black, the macro would then select ALL objects/text on the page that are NOT black.
I have architectural detail drawings in pdf. In photoshop CS6 I can invert them but the quality drops, it becomes pixilated. I want the background to be black and lines/writings to be white. How can I achieve this in Illustrator CS6?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi regularly have to print out colours for sublimating fabric, and use illustrator to create a panel of blends to print out.
I put four colours in the corners, make an 18 step blend or the top two, then the bottom two, expand them then ungroup them, and then change the blend options to 8 steps and blend them vertically one by one.
all in all it's several minutes work, but i thought i could change the values of the four corners, and then use actions to blend the grid.
initially it stopped and told me ungroup was unavailable, so i created smaller steps, but still can't get it to work.
is this possible, or do i carry on manually crating grids? or is there another way?
Say I had a group of windows in one layer. A wall in a layer beneath and a giant flock of birds in the layer below that. How would I be able to make the birds visible in the windows while keeping the flock easily editable? CLipping masks seem to only work well with single objects.

I want to invert the black and white portions of the logo but maintain the blue hues in the finer parts of the logo. When I invert currently the blue hues change to a red. I want to keep the blue but I am having a difficult time figuring out how to do this.

I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Am I doing something wrong or is the largest size you can create with this tool seamlessly only 9x9?

When I create a pattern that is NOT tiled in Grid (i.e. Brick), it usually works without any problem. But once I save and re-open the file, opening the pattern in PM again will show this message:
A clipping mask was created around the pattern tile bounds to preserve legacy pattern appearance. For best results, release the clipping mask when changing the tile size or editing art that overlaps the tile edge. I would then find that, instead of a single motif layed out in a Brick tile, I would have one complete motif in the center and four quartered motifs on the corners of one clipping box. This is tiled in a Grid pattern to emulate a Brick appearance.
So long story short, what's supposed to be a Brick tile turns into a Grid tile that's faking a Brick tile.
Is there a way to keep the simple Brick tiles?
i'm using illustrator cs5. making a pattern containing a pattern. i have some illustrations that i've put a simple polka dot pattern behind. in order for illustrator to accept it as pattern, i've been expanding the polka dot part before dragging it over to the swatches panel. however, when i do this it slows everything down tremendously and usually makes the system crash.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to change the color on my chevron pattern (a downloaded PS template I purchased off the internet.) I select my paint bucket (and choose the color to change it to) but every time I click on the pattern, it changes the color to a lighter shade of pink vs the green that I am trying to apply. It's almost like it is mixing the color VS changing it.
How would I go about changing the color completely? It is currently light pink and I want to change it to a green that I grabbed off of a diff picture (with the color picker.)
I've used the Fill>Pattern to tile my seamless patterns tons of times and never had this issue. Suddenly , it started making each tile on the large canvas a different color when I apply Fill>Pattern. At first I thought it was a tip or guide to see the repeat edges , but it shows up in print preview too. What did I do and how do I correct it?
