Say I had a group of windows in one layer. A wall in a layer beneath and a giant flock of birds in the layer below that. How would I be able to make the birds visible in the windows while keeping the flock easily editable? CLipping masks seem to only work well with single objects.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm building a tree prop that uses a push modifier to create the outside effect of the shape I want. The problem is that the Push modifier has pushed many faces into others... leaving a bunch of geometry "inside" the model... in essence leaving a larger polycount than needed and wasted.
i tried to draw a cross section view of the encircled area... as if you were looking up the cross section up the tree. I'm hoping to get the geometry to match the "desired" drawing.

I have a flash animation, just shapes and tweening. I was wondering if there's a way to convert it to After Effects but keeping it editable (i.e. getting AE shapes and keyframes).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Photoshop CS6 on Windows 7 with a dual monitor setup. In a prior version, it was the case that multiple open photos could stay in the application frame, such that moving the frame would move all open photos with it, but without using tabs/partitions, which I dislike. Is there no longer a way to configure it this way? I've experimented with "Enable Floating Document Window Docking" and "Open Documents as Tabs", but they aren't doing the trick.
I'm often juggling several applications, and regularly find it convenient to move things from one monitor to the other based on what specific task I'm doing. I know tabs are one "solution", but are inefficient and impractical in my experience. The images I work with typically start very large and get resized/cropped during editing for use in email and the web. Consequently, I have open a mix of very large and small pictures, some portrait and some landscape. Using tabs or multi-up partitions, I can either view only the image I'm working on or some fixed number of images in a fixed (though adjustable) layout. In the latter case, I can usually only see a small portion of the large photos unless I manually resize them based on the current partition size, which changes based on what else I'm currently working on. If I choose to have one "Fit on screen", it's resized based on the full screen size, not the partition the image is in, so again I'm only able to see a portion of a large image. Smaller pictures end up with wasted space within their partitions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to hatch a complex image with a single pattern, but with different stroke weights.
Here I added an image of a simple greyscale image with below the hatching that I'm trying to make. In short: I want to use only 45 deg. hatches in this direction. However, based on the grey value, I'd like the hatches to have different weights.
However, since this image is quite simple, only four different weights were needed. However, I'd like to know if there is an easy way to do this for complex images. For this image I just used pattern fills with different stroke weights, but I'd like a smoother and easier solution, preferably one where it would be possible to have many different weights without having to split up the image in thirty different parts and making thirty different pattern fills.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but I might be overlooking something. If it would be possible with a plugin, I'd like to know too. Even if there might be a workaround via Photoshop, and the end-result would not be a perfect vector, It'd be fine.
I have set up a 20x20 pixel grid and I want to easily try out a few mockup layouts. No matter what I try, Illustrator simply does not snap to grid. I have to zoom in really close to align each shape.
Surprisingly it does not snap to guides either, leaving me completely hopeless. I have snap to pixel on and all objects are set to align to pixel grid.
How can I easily find a character if its attribute is different from others? There might be some easier way than compare it one by one.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi regularly have to print out colours for sublimating fabric, and use illustrator to create a panel of blends to print out.
I put four colours in the corners, make an 18 step blend or the top two, then the bottom two, expand them then ungroup them, and then change the blend options to 8 steps and blend them vertically one by one.
all in all it's several minutes work, but i thought i could change the values of the four corners, and then use actions to blend the grid.
initially it stopped and told me ungroup was unavailable, so i created smaller steps, but still can't get it to work.
is this possible, or do i carry on manually crating grids? or is there another way?
how do i easily render a fillable shape with one 'zig-zag' edge and the rest smooth?
View 6 Replies View RelatedA simple editable mesh object, a piece of terrain, which has standard texture on it an no modifiers, just some UV's on channel 1.
Whenever I add "edit poly" modifier or convert it to editable poly, additional geometry will be created. Statistics show that only vertex count of the selected object goes up about 6x but no additional faces are generated. This not the case when check on a sub-object level, there are lot of additional faces created. I've never seen this happen, jumping between edit poly and edit mesh has been easy without any errors like this.
I've tried the same model with 2013 as well - same results. Also tried collapsing the object, removing uv-mapping, different materials, attaching the mesh to empty box, etc, garbage collection, exporting it to obj and importing - even then same thing happens.
While I can use the "S" key to access softproofing, the checkbox doesn't show on the toolbar and the the option simply doesn't appear in the toolbar pop-up either!

But 90% of the time I get kicked into birds eye view. And I know for a fact that the hotkey for Birds Eye View is 'H' This extra step of getting kicked into birds eye view whenever I want to pan is tossing a monkey wrench into my workflow.

She feels that it is because when she exports as .fxg into Illus if she turns the preview to outlines the art looks like vector art. Im not so sure. You cant select anything. Every time I open it, the text is either converted to points or it is broken up into single letters which is hardly useful for the end-user to take and edit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was just provided a pdf for a large. The customer however forgot to build in a bleed. I can see from the imbeded info the file was made in Illustrator cs5. Knowing this I opened the pdf Ill cs5. When i attempt to do this I get an error that there is a linked image missing. So I figured I would place the whole pdf in a new illustrator file. When I fo this I can see all the illustrator layers from the original file. Including the image that supposedly wasn't linked.
Once I have the place pdf in illustrator I can edit the original illustrator elements just fine. The only problem is that now when I try to save this file as a pdf again it's file size grows about ten times, going from just short of 5 mbs to 45 or more mbs. This larger size keeps me from emailing it and unfortunitly the banner printer I was sending it off too doesn't use dropbox.
How I can add a bleed to this pdf without making the file unresonibly large? I have already tried turning off the all optional inclusions on the pdf such as allow Illustrator editablity.
When I open Illustrator and create a new artboard, I cannot edit or interact with the artboard. No matter what tool I select, the cursor indicates that the artboard/layer is not editable but the layer is definitely not locked.
