I cannot remember what this is called, or where to find it in the menus. It doesn't have the word "duplicate" in it, but it should! You select an object and then go to a dialog box and set up how many times you want to duplicate it vertically or horizontally, and how far apart.
I will certainly write this command down when the answer comes through, but I can tell you it needs a name that sounds like what it is!
Illustrator CS6, menu object, transform, move: when I move an object using orizzontal value and vertical value (example 10 mm from X and 10 mm from Y) the value in distance and angle is correct (14,1421 of distance and -45° angle) but, when I want to use distance and the angle for drawing in isometric way (example: 10 mm distance and 30° angle) the orizzontal and vertical value is not correct as you can see in the attached file below

When I select an object and open the Move window (either by pressing the Enter key or selecting Object>Transform>Move), I try and move the object at a given angle and a given distance. I leave the Horizontal & Vertical dialogs blank and just fill in the information for the Distance and Angle. When I press OK (or Copy), nothing happens. In all previous versions of Illustrator, this feature worked perfectly. I can not get it to work in CS6.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to build something like a bullseye using javascript. I'm new to scripting for Illustrator but I've used javascript before so I thought it would be simple, but maybe I'm missing some basic notions here.
I'm using Illustrator CS6. I created a blank document and drew a circle with a 1pt black stroke and no fill. Selecting that circle, I my script to copy and paste it in front and increase its radius by one centimeter. I attempted a simple duplication first:

Having trouble with object snap tracking. At times i am given distances from other objects to work with- which is what i am after.
However in some instances only the model space coordinates are displayed- not distances. Is there any way to ensure that only distances appear?
When I want to move an object a certain distance from the original location, I go to long winded trouble of drawing a line and attaching it to say, for example, the centre of a circle. Then MOVE the circle, selecting the base line as the centre to the end of the LINE using OSNAP.
Is this how you Pro's do it, I'm guessing not.
I have been using Corel Draw primarily in my work for more than 20 years but have never taken the time to understand this....nor why on some artwork an object will move fractionally but on other artwork (specifically this time, a 20m x 10m workspace for vehicle signage) the objects move 200 or 300mm!?
I always thought this was a 'drawing precision' setting but even when I set that to 1 decimal place it doesn't seem to affect this.

I've tinkered with a script I found for measuring the length and width of a selected object and placing those values in a specs portion of the file. It works great, I'm very excited about how much better my life could be if I conquered scripting, and now I'm struggiling to get another one working but I'm a little stuck.
What I need to do now is measure and print the distance from the right edge of a selected object to the left edge of another object named "repeat" in a designated "specs" area of the page. The idea is to show the distance between a print impression and when it will print again (repeat), because it is printed using a print cylinder that rotates to print over and over on a continuous film.
I'm a little fuzzy on how I call the value of the left side x value of an object, but basically what I want is to use that value and then subtract from it the width of the selected object. The difference is the distance between impressions.
I'm trying to move an object a certain distance at a certain angle. I select the object and hit Enter to bring up the Move dialog. I enter the angle and distance, and instead of moving the specified distance, it moves some other distance. I don't get it. Am I doing it wrong? I can't imagine how else it's supposed to work. Here's a simple example:
Based on the angle and distance I entered in the video, the duplicate square should have been placed so that its lower right corner touches the upper left corner of the original. Instead, it only moved half an inch or so.
I have a circular path where I've got 5 words of text that I need to have equal distance between each word.
What I've done is create 5 text paths overlaying each other so I can move the text around the path but is there any quick way to creat equal gaps?

In Illustrator CS6 I can't adjust how far a line moves when I move it using the arrow keys. I've gone to Preferences>General>Keyboard Increment and changed the amount, but the line moves the same distance no matter what I put in. Neither Snap to Grid nor Snap to Point are turned on.

The problem is when you have irregular shapes, (or in this case, an oval). I know I've seen solutions to this in the past, but I just can't think of how to word this question and find them again.
I know you can create multiple strokes for an object in the appearance palette, but I'm looking for something more effective than just having colored stroke > white stroke > colored stroke> white stroke > etc.
Here's a couple examples of the kind of effect I'm looking for.
I would like to draw a smiple line using the transparent command 'AD (angle-distance).
My distance is not horz., so I want to enter the Vertial angle and the slope-distance, in LLD the command was AD VD.
So how do you do this in Civil 3D 2012.
I have simple a 3D bottle shape created from about 16 points and I am trying to map a gif image on to it usning CS5. No matter what I have done (work from a new document, etc.) I always get the error message. I also receive this error when I attempt to map a jpg image on to the same shape. I have attempted this on three different Windows 7 machines running CS5 with the same result. When I try it with CS6 the program closes with a catastrophic error and no message. I do not receive this error using the default symbols. The gif and jpg images are imported and imbedded into the document and then moved to the symbols library.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having some trouble with a file in Illustrator CS6. Within a layer, when I add a fill to an object, the fill doesn't block out the object paths beneath. For instance, say I have a square object overlapping a circle object in Layer 1. The square object is above the circle in the layer. When I add a fill to the square, the circle stroke still shows through the square even though the overlapped part should be blocked out by the fill. The square is set to normal visibility, and I have made sure that there are no duplicate paths that would account for what I am seeing. (I.e., it's not a case where there's a second identical circle path that is on top of the square, so that it remains visible in spite of the fill.)
Other details:
- I'm mainly working with a white fill, but the problem is the same with fills of any color
- When there's a fill color in the circle path as well, the circle's fill color *is* blocked out—just not its stroke.
- I have restarted Illustrator and restarted my computer and these have not changed anything.
- There are other layers within the same document where the normal layering rules work.
- I tried copy/pasting some of the problem objects into a new document, and in the new document, the fill works properly.
- If I move the problem objects to another layer, then the fill works as it should. But as I'm dealing with a number of paths, it doesn't make sense to create a layer for each to solve the problem.
I can't tell if it's a matter of working in too large or complex a file.
I'm working with 27 artboard in illustrator for one project. I would like to select the object I need to get to in my layers panel and have illustrator "jump/navigate" me to the object where it resides on the artboard. Is this possible?

In the end the letters will all be the light blue color that "Kuhns" is right now, I'm just using the different colors to explain my problem. I want the pink part of the "C" to be in front of the "K", but I want the black part of the "C" to be behind the "K", giving the illusion that the "C" is passing through the "K" (this will only be visible cause of the drop shadows on both letters, since they wil both be the same color) Is there a way to do this?
I got this effect in Photoshop, but I need to do it with vectors because the size of the image that has to be uploaded to my website is so small that you lose all detail if its a bitmap (52 pixels x 103 pixels) In addition to the effect explained above I am trying to get a bevel effect. In Photoshop it works and is easy to do but in illustrator the settings are all different and anything I enter looks totally different.
The settings that I'm using in Photoshop are: Style: inner bevel, technique: smooth,depth: 1%, direction: up, size 10 px, soften 0 px, angle:,120 degrees, altitude: 30 degrees, highlight mode: screen, Opacity: 75%, shadow mode: multiply, Opacity:75%. How do I get this same effect in illustrator?
