I need to make a poster in A1 size and I would like to know whether it is feasible to do so with GIMP, because I've seen the list of templates when making a new file and the size goes only up to A3 format.
I realize I can do the designing in A3 format and just print the A1 sheet, but I don't know if this will yield good results when considering the resolution and such.
I´ve made a collage with a lot of pictures with a page size of 120 x 80 cm.
I wanted to print a poster of the same size in snapfish, and they accept only JPG files. So I exported the collage to JPG with the best Quality I got.
The poster was printed, but the quality is poor. How can I export it in order to get good results?
I printed the poster the same size in my HP Printer (5 years old) with lot of A4 pages and the resolution of each page was much higher.
Printing the poster is expensive, that is why I really would like to reach the same quality with a JPG file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make a collage which will be printed(=300 DPI) on A3(420 × 297 mm) sized paper. The images I want to take elements from for my collage are all different in size and DPI. When these elements come together they should be similar in size in order to create a new believable scene. 1 element can't be absurdly large in relation to another.
So what I did for my first image (size of 3456 × 2304 pixels, a print-size of 1219,20 × 812,80 mm and DPI 72 × 72) was increase the DPI to 600 in order to obtain a smaller printsize - reducing it to 146,30 × 97,54 mm - cut-out the elements I need and import them into my A3 document. This gave me the size I need for my elements.
However when I try to take elements out of the second image (size of 1500 × 1125 pixels, a print-size of 211,67 × 158,75 mm and DPI 180 × 180) - which I leave unchanged because 211,67 × 158,75 mm is about the size I need for the elements - and place them into the A3 document they are too small. Same story for the third image (size of 2400 × 1600 pixels, a print-size of 304,80 × 203,20 mm and DPI 200 × 200)
I am making an independent film. And I've decided to use Photoshop to make the Poster...but theres one problem. We'll...3 actually. Hopefully someone could help me out and I would greatly appreciate it. Even if you can only answer one, I will still greatly appreciate it.
1. What would be the coordinates if you want to make a Poster?
2. How about a full paper. What size does the Photoshop picture got to be to fit a piece of paper perfectly?
3. How about DVD covers? Either just the front or the front and the back.

I'm trying to design and create an A2 size poster and my physical memory is off the charts is there a way of creating the design small and resizing the canvas when I'm finished or is it just impossible to create a poster this size on my laptop?

ive been making business cards for a friend but i dont know how to create a PDF that is exactley the that size. when i create a PDF the options are thing like A4 etc.. and i dont see a screen to customise the size?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working in VSX4. I've created a couple of small movies which I want to compile onto a single dvd. The video files from both movies combined only amount to about 3.2 GB, yet when I try to "share" and make the dvd with both of my vsp files, it adds up to be a total of over 7 GB. Is it normal to have this much "inflation" on a project? I've not done anything special as far as graphics or fancy menus or even chapter markers. It's just a handful of clips with the "crossfade" transition applied. And that's it.

I made the image 8.5 x 11 inches, but when I printed a test at that size it came out too small... is there a % bigger that I need to make the image to fit, or did I go wrong somewhere else?
i dont know what i am doing wrong working on 3D..There are not too many objects. One layer only. i have some blocks and for combining some objects i used union..i applied different materials, Sun properties etc it doesn't take time to render but to edit or even a single click on objects make them very slow..i saw the file size, it was 550MB..i purged them and used overkill command so it reduced to 450MB now..

This is something I do on a daily basis for several different reasons and it would be very useful if this can happen automatically for whatever size the artboard may be. As I understand it the only way is with a script but I have no experience with making illustrator scripts, im definately no programmer. I have set up quickkeys in the past to copy from the artboard inputs when you are on the artboard tool but these round to the nearest .01 and this is not accurate enough for what I am working with. Also if I do this with multiple pages open illustrator is very slow to respond to the artboard tool.
Below is a script that I saw on here that I believe may contain what I need but now knowing programming. Where to start on editing. All I need is the part where an object is placed on the artboard that is the exact same size as the artboard.

I have changed Canvas size a thousand times in my life and this has never happened before.
I have an image that is 1600 px wide and I want to trim the sides to 1260. When I start to even type in the smaller size, the file size indicated is larger (that was my first suspicion that something was not right). And sure enough, it is making the image larger?
My file was 550MB and then i purged them and it reduced to 450 MB... I am making a 3D Project.. I am not able to upload the file as it is too big so i give you a little detail what i drew..
There are 3 meters long 5 fence panels and there i worked on details of the ornaments and put materials on them.. There is a solid base with an image and i am using sun properties with lights etc...
I cannot render the file as it gives me an error.. i am not able to work on the file now as it is gigantic size..

What I am doing wrong making 3D objects? Would it reduce the size if i union all the objects or make blocks ?
I have created a farm map in AutoCAD 2008. I want to have a sign made with this image on it with dimensions 775mm x 1096mm. I saved this image as an eps file of size A4 and sent it to the sign maker. The sign maker got back to me and told me that when he blew this image up it was blurry and could I please save it at its actual size.
My problem is that I'm not sure how to save this image at this size.
I want to create a template whereby I can make a series of images that I can save as jpgs, upload to my blog, and people can print them. When they print, I want them to be one quarter of a sheet of paper (fit four to a page).
I tried creating a new image using the "inches" specification and those inches seem to have no bearing on inches in real life once printed.
So then I figured that a sheet of paper is 8.5 by 11 and I want a resolution of 300 dpi.
So 8.5 times 300: 2,550 pixels. Times that by 0.25 to get a quarter of it: 637.5 (which gets rounded to 638 pixels).
11 times 300: 3,300 pixels. Times that by 0.25= 825 pixels.
So I put in for 638 pixels by 825 pixels and 300 dpi. I created my image. I saved it as a jpg at full resolution. I uploaded it to my site and tested out the printing.
It took up most of a sheet of paper. Not even close to being a quarter of a sheet.
I've been using 2.6 and created a template for multiple business cards on a standard 8.5 by 11 sheet. [URL]
However the later versions ... 2.8 cause distortions when I try to print. ( Canon MG 2120) The standard 8.5 by 11 mysteriously converts to 7.997 by 10.349 inches .... and a weird 318.870 ppi appears. This obviously distorts my template and the 2 by 3.5 inch cards become odd sizes. When I open the template in 2.6, it works perfectly.
What has happened to the later version? i can't reset to inches and even using the 2559 by 3300 pixils with the 1050x600 card sizecan't be printed accurately So I'm now creating in 2.8 and opening in 2.6 to get my sizes correctly.
I love the expanded tools for drawing in the 2.8 ... but this feature is a nuisance ... along of course with the terrible sizing scale for the brushes. SO hard to calibrate the smaller and moe common sizes. Another bad feature.
Have I missed some adjustment somewhere. Using the same printer, same download gives two different prints sizes in 2.6 and 2.8.
After spending time in PS elements 11 making changes in color and applying frames etc. I noticed after saving the file my resolution went from 5.5Mb to 847kb. Why is this?
View 29 Replies View RelatedI'm having some issues using either GIMP or PS to do this, so I figured I'd ask here. when it comes to image editing and tasks like this, but I'm currently being asked to do something for a job.
I need to take a single image which is a restaurant floor layout, then make it so all of the tables on the image are a different layer so that they can be moved around/customized accordingly.
As far as I can tell, this would involve creating layers, copying the tables from the main image, pasting them all on top as their own layer, and then sliding them around from there.
Is there any easy way to do this, or am I completely off-base?

I then select the colours I want, select Active and Pressed, and then hit create. The buttons look perfect, except for one thing ..I need the buttons without the Text. But if I enter no text in the text box when creating the button, I get this error:

I want to make a Christmas present spelling out the last name using individual photos of letters (see below). I would like the finished image to be 16x20, and I am going to upload it and have it printed at a photo developing shop. I'm not sure how to set this up in GIMP.
When I set up my new file, how many pixels should I make the new image, if my desired size is 16x20. I'm not sure how many dpi to use when I convert the inches to pixels. I read that 300 dpi is desired.
I was thinking about making image boxes for each letter in one layer and cutting and pasting each letter into the boxes. Is this possible or do I need to make a new layer for each photo?
I got Gimp 2.4. I am missing something. Every time I use a tool like rotate, it keeps the old picture there and turns a new image around. Then when I select another tool like resize, the image goes back/ to it's original position?

This is the exact message.
"Saving 'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes\vic1.gbr' failed:

I'm trying to make my second ebook cover with GIMP, The ebook is 'The Man in Black' by Stanley J Weyman, and the cover must be 600px wide by 800px high - this fits most readers.
I have cropped a monochrome image to show the head and torso of the Man, and scaled it to 280*400px - though I may want to make it bigger later depending on how the cover looks.
I want this image to be on a black background, with the book title above the image and the author's name below - both in white.
The next step, I think, should be to make a layer 600*800px which I'll color black, then put the book title towards the top of the layer / image and the author's name towards the bottom.
Then I think I'll need to make a transparent area in the middle of this layer just big enough for the Man image to show through, then put the Man image on another layer, then combine the layers.
