I am using Gimp 2.8 and i am trying to create my own brushes.I make the image i want and then i go to export it into my gimp brushes as name.gbr but and error pops up telling me i dont have permission.
This is the exact message.
"Saving 'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes\vic1.gbr' failed:
Could not open 'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes\vic1.gbr' for writing: Permission denied"
I'm working on making a really awesome pic but I'm stuck. The style I use in all of my pics is by making a new layer, changing it to color mode, then making rainbow colors with a really soft brush. Everything was going fine until I threw some text in there. Now when I paint, the text stays the same color!

Failed to load data:
Fatal parse error in brush file 'C:Program FilesGIMP 2sharegimp2.0rushesKyleMegapack.abr': unable to decode abr format version 14402.
I'm not sure what is wrong. My best guess is that the Photoshop version this was made for is not compatible with Gimp 2.8.10. The guy who made these brushes (Kyle T Webster) said that Photoshop CS5 or higher is required. The brush set was only $13, so I'm not really worried about the money, but is there any way I can use these brushes, or will I have to wait for a Gimp update or something?
I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

if it's possible to create a brush that uses two colors rather than one with transparency.. I know about the foreground/background color jitter within the brush options, but I need it so that when I paint using this brush it actually lays down two colors per "stroke".
Actually, I imagine what I'm trying to do would be considered cloning rather than brushing. I messed with the clone stamp tool a bit, but couldn't achieve the desired effect.
Lastly, this is what I'm trying to do:
I am trying to duplicate a large amount of dollar bills, and I want them scattered and at random angles.. something the brush dialog offers the right options for of course. Manually placing them and rotating is definitely not an option. When I paint them in using a custom brush, all the dollar bills I've painted in already show through because the white areas of my custom brush translate to transparency - the result is an indistinguishable mess of black.
Last night in CS5 I was playing with the opacity and spacing of the brush, and now I can't get back to a normal brush.I want just a normal stroke, but the brush is making lots of transparent dots instead. I've switched to Photoshop Elements 7 for now and everything is fine there, it's only CS5.

I followed a tutorial on how to make abstract images using abstract brushes. One of the attachments is from the tutorial. The other is my result.(you will know which is whose; I used the same brush)
There must be some brush settings I need to adjust, but the tutorial doesn't say anything about them. What am I doing wrong here?(messing with shape dynamics and scattering produced a better result, but it was too bright and still looked terrible.)
So, I use many of the same brushes. If I copy a path from a file that uses a certian brush to another file that uses the same brush, I get a duplicate of the brush in the brush panel.
Can I stop this from happening?
When I use the brush tool, the brush circle disappears when I enlarge it past 70px. The edges of the circle begin to disappear as I enlarge it until the whole brush is invisible and I have no idea where I am painting with it and where the edges are.
The tool still works, I just can't see what I'm doing. I have tried resetting my tool presets and that did not work. Also, I am not accidentally hitting the caps lock key for it to go to the crosshatch.
the problem seems to happen when I fool around with my projects layers (turning turning them on and off) all my tools lock up and when i try to click back onto my work.
I get this error "Could not use the brush tool because of a program error"
Then I need to save my work and restart PS to work on it another 5 mins before it locks up again.
Im using a wacom tablet w/ newest drivers.
I keep getting this error message (see below) whenever I try to make jpegs from my layer comps using File-->Scripts-->Layer Comps from Files. This error always comes up after Photoshop gets through 2 or 3 comps. I often have to select only a few layer comps at a time to get it to make jpegs. I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6.
Here is the message I get:
Error: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop. The object “layer comp 2054478963” is not currently available.
I am trying to make a break-out view in an idw. I get the message "Hint Ref is NULL" no matter what I try for section depth etc. Also, I noticed that the view I am trying to break-out is not listed in the browser! Also, one of the section views is not listed either. See attached screen shot.
why a view would not show in the browser and what can the error message "Hint Ref is NULL" mean?

I need to take a single image which is a restaurant floor layout, then make it so all of the tables on the image are a different layer so that they can be moved around/customized accordingly.
As far as I can tell, this would involve creating layers, copying the tables from the main image, pasting them all on top as their own layer, and then sliding them around from there.
Is there any easy way to do this, or am I completely off-base?
I got an irregular shaped image and I wish to get rid of the white canvas background underneath it.
I used lasso to outline the image.
However, when I right click, the lasso will not disappear.
I want my mouse to come back.

I then select the colours I want, select Active and Pressed, and then hit create. The buttons look perfect, except for one thing ..I need the buttons without the Text. But if I enter no text in the text box when creating the button, I get this error:

I want to make a Christmas present spelling out the last name using individual photos of letters (see below). I would like the finished image to be 16x20, and I am going to upload it and have it printed at a photo developing shop. I'm not sure how to set this up in GIMP.
When I set up my new file, how many pixels should I make the new image, if my desired size is 16x20. I'm not sure how many dpi to use when I convert the inches to pixels. I read that 300 dpi is desired.
I was thinking about making image boxes for each letter in one layer and cutting and pasting each letter into the boxes. Is this possible or do I need to make a new layer for each photo?
I got Gimp 2.4. I am missing something. Every time I use a tool like rotate, it keeps the old picture there and turns a new image around. Then when I select another tool like resize, the image goes back/ to it's original position?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make my second ebook cover with GIMP, The ebook is 'The Man in Black' by Stanley J Weyman, and the cover must be 600px wide by 800px high - this fits most readers.
I have cropped a monochrome image to show the head and torso of the Man, and scaled it to 280*400px - though I may want to make it bigger later depending on how the cover looks.
I want this image to be on a black background, with the book title above the image and the author's name below - both in white.
The next step, I think, should be to make a layer 600*800px which I'll color black, then put the book title towards the top of the layer / image and the author's name towards the bottom.
Then I think I'll need to make a transparent area in the middle of this layer just big enough for the Man image to show through, then put the Man image on another layer, then combine the layers.
Is there a way to do this without making a solid line then removing parts with the background color?
This would be a phantom line or centerline in engineering lingo.......
I need to make a poster in A1 size and I would like to know whether it is feasible to do so with GIMP, because I've seen the list of templates when making a new file and the size goes only up to A3 format.
I realize I can do the designing in A3 format and just print the A1 sheet, but I don't know if this will yield good results when considering the resolution and such.
I have the brush editor open, and I make the radius bigger and the circle in the brush editor gets bigger; but when I go to the picture, the circle for the eraser stays the same size. What am I missing here?
