Illustrator :: Can Make A Mesh Behave Like Envelope
Sep 17, 2012The technique of making an envelope distortion with the Top Object is very useful, because you can apply the same distortion (that is, the same top object) to any number of objects and at any time.
I'd like to use meshes in the same way. I don't want to apply mesh colour, or any other mesh property than its shape: I just want to use the mesh shape as a re-usable distorter.
(I've tried using the mesh as a Top Object, but the resulting error message is not useful. And I've also tried editing the mesh contents, but this doesn't work as there's no way to replace the contents with other objects.)

Aug 30, 2012Is it possible to make a true cut in windows or doors. Sometimes windows or doors needs different presentation in different levels. I can do this by changing the door or window family to a generic model family but why can i not do this in the door/window family?

After making the branch consisting of symbol needles (just a bunch of needles, grouped or not), it is not possible to use envelope on the branch and bend it. It can only be rotated or sized. Is it normal? How to create varieties?

Feb 27, 2013I have recently been fighting an override of some sort that doesn't want to go away. As an example, for basic copy command, I would normally select my object to copy, type C, hit the space bar, and select my object again to copy to new location. With this override, I select my object, type C, hit the space bar, and in the command line, this appears:
Command: c COPY 1 found
Current Settings: Copy mode = Multiple
Specify base point or [Displacement/mOde] : c

How to achieve the effect shown in the image? If not with Illustrator what software can do this effect?
It's like an envelope distort but like the object (small circles) is not entirely wrapped into the envelope.
I tried moving the corners of the applied envelope towards the center of the object but it resizes the entire shape along with it...

Mar 22, 2011I cannot get the Envelope tool to work correctly in Draw X5. Rather that go into a lenghty explanation, see below. Notice that some of the rectangles don't "bend" as they should. I converted all text to curves and then welded all objects together. However, it acts the same if they are grouped instead.

May 18, 2012I recieved several .stp files from a vendor and most of them imported without incident. One part is giving me a major headache though. The envelope of the solid body is much larger than the actual part. This is causing the origin to be skewed by several orders of magnitude. Any way to trim down the envelope to the part size?

Illustrator :: Envelope Distort Doesn't Work With A Picture
Nov 25, 2013I'm trying to distort a picture to make it fit a cover of a magazine. I read a few tutorials on Envelope Distort and followed directions. It seemed pretty straightforward.
I created a single, closed path that I placed it on a top layer. I placed the picture I want to distort and embedded iton a second layer behind the shape. Selected them together, continued with Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object. But, the picture gets twisted and messed up.
This is what it looks like and I can't think of anything that is interfering with the process. This image will be part of a collage of images that will go on the front cover of my Google+ and Facebook profile.

I played around with the mesh warp tool, but that thing seems nearly impossible to fine tune even when I use the magnifier.
The tool "Warp Brush" would probably work with some delicacy, but seems to be exclusive to Paint Shop Pro, and the smear tool obviously will not work...

I understand the basic function, input text, select text, select Envelope feature but that sets the envelope box to the size of the inputted text, where I need a fixed text input box size.

Jun 21, 2011Is there a way to stretch the width of text, once it is in an envelope or on a path? You can adjust the kerning(spacing), but I don't see anywhere that you can adjust the width of the letters.
An example: I have the word MAVERICKS on an arched path in a design. I want to change that design for the RAMS, so where it says MAVERICKS it will now say RAMS. The problem is RAMS is a much shorter word and I need it to stretch to the same width as the previously used MAVERICKS.
Softimage :: 2012 SAP Envelope Pick Vertex In Paint Weights Mode
Nov 1, 2011I have noticed on two machines that the SAP of Soft 2012 results on some odd offsets when trying to pick a vertex in paint weights mode. Apply a simple envelope and then go to solo and select vertex to see the offset from where your mouse arrow is and the vertex it highlights. Worked fine until the SAP update.
This has occurred on two separate machines. How/where do we submit a bug report?
Illustrator :: Way To Return Released Envelope Mesh Back To Normal Path?
Dec 15, 2012If you use the Create Envelope from Top Shape feature, and then later Release the Envelope you at first appear to get your original shape back.
But it's actually an object called a Mesh. While you can apply Fills and Strokes to this released Mesh, there are some things you can't do with it.
Like setting the Stroke to Inside or Outside. You also can't use this Mesh with the Pathfinder Operations.
Is there a way to return a released Envelope Mesh back a normal path?

May 24, 2008I just started experimenting with a way to get Photoshop to do a TRUE sharpen, where it actually pulls the pixels around blurry edges together, rather than just adding contrast to create the *illusion* of sharpness... but I need ideas. I use sharpening a great deal on photos, but if done too heavily, it always adds that fake "sharpened" look to it, around all the edges... Trouble is, some images NEED that sharpness, and I'm wondering why Adobe still hasn't come up with anything that does a *true* sharpen, after all these years.
So, before I dive more deeply into this, I want to save time (since I don't have much) by seeing if anyone has any ideas as to how to do a couple things.

How would you suggest bringing the blurry pixels in selected regions together?
On my test image, I've had some success using Surface Blur (applied multiple times) believe it or not, but the problem is that on actual photos, it has a knack to only "true-sharpen" the hardest edges, and soften the more subtle ones. Here's an example of what I started testing with:
I also tried Posterize, but this won't work on a large image with more than a few colors in it, because it likes to cut things down to just a few colors (and it looks very messy in photos, because of jagged edges).

Umm, okay, I guess there isn't a second thing... I figured out several good ways of selecting edges; now I just need to find a reliable way to pull blurry edges together along those edges.
Photoshop :: True Resolution For Image?
Feb 8, 2013as I search the internet for a particular popular image, when it pops up in Google image search, it shows up with a bunch of different resolutions / sizes / whatever you call it. I assume that when the image was originally created, it had one resolution it was created it, the one where it's the best quality. Is there a way in photoshop to figure this out? ie what is the optimal resolution that an image should be displayed at?
For instance, I'm doing an image search on "success kid" which is a popular meme. Of all the images that pop up, should I take the one with the highest resolution? But however could that have meant that it was resized to be very big?
