AutoCad 3D :: FLATSHOT Not Hiding Obscured Lines In Swept Solid

Nov 19, 2012

I have a swept solid that FLATSHOT will not hide the obscured lines for. In the FLATSHOT dialogue box, I have tried all options, with different results. Any setting that I can change or alternate method that I can use to get 2D geometry from this solid that I can use in my 2D drawing?

AutoCad 3D :: Erratic Lines In FLATSHOT Command 2013

Sep 24, 2012

I produce a lot of "Exploded View" style drawings for our equipment for assembly drawings and Operators Manuals. I model everything in 3D, set the perspective view, adjust the view I like, then use the Flatshot command to make 2D lines and arcs verions of the view to put into paperspace. Then item bubbles, notes, whatever. as of the last week, my flatshots, if they include a hex bolt head in the view, the arcs on the faces of the flats will be really stretched and skewed decidley toward the vanishing point in the completion of the Flatshot command. It does not happen on other arcs that may be in the model, seems to be exclusive with the hex. I doesn't happen if I do not make the view pespective but leave it "Parallell".

AutoCAD 2010 :: Xref Layers Do Not Print Correctly When Hiding Lines

Oct 24, 2012

I am having an issue with plotting a drawing that includes an xref. I have also included an attachment as reference.

I am working in AutoCAD 2010; I have a drawing that includes another drawing as an xref. The xref is on layer “0” in model space and my titleblock, annotation and viewports are in paper space (layout tab). I am using color dependent plot styles (.STB). The xref is a 3D model created with basic AutoCAD solids representing steel shapes, there are also some line segments representing the steel centerlines. The viewport is a plan view of the 3D steel model, the view is not clipped. Since the xref contains 3D objects when I print the drawing I don't want the “hidden” lines to show up, I accomplish this by setting the viewport shade plot setting to “HIDDEN”.

Here is the problem:

When I print the drawing the xref’s layers do not print correctly but rather take on the properties of layer “0” which has a plot style of “NORMAL” so everything prints in color and with a default lineweight. I want the xref to print using the xref’s layer properties that are defined in the .STB file. One variable that changes the outcome of the printed drawing is the viewport shade plot setting.

If the viewport shade plot is set to HIDDEN the xref prints using layer “0” properties (undesired) and the3D object lines are hidden (desired). See attached Viewport #1

If the viewport shade plot is set to AS DISPLAYED the xref prints using the xref’s layer properties (desired) but the 3D object lines are not hidden (undesired). See attached Viewport #2

The ONLY difference between the two viewports is the shade plot setting, there are no layer overrides and only the xref objects are affected, the objects in paper space print as expected. This only happens with an xref or block. If I bind the xref into the drawing and explode it so the objects are “live” in the drawing everything works fine. Unfortunately I need it to work correctly with an xref.

If I use a color dependent plot style (.CTB) where the .CTB file controls the color and lineweight I am able to achieve the desired results, unfortuneatly my company is determined to use .STB files

Photoshop :: CS5 - Thumbnails Obscured By Mask Or Channel

Sep 28, 2013

I've been having this problem since Photoshop 3.0. In the event my current version of Photoshop saved preview thumbnails, and my OS would display them, there would often be portions of the image missing. I noticed that there was usually a mask or channel matching the missing portion, and deduced that Photoshop was arbitrarily masking the preview, making them useless even in the cases where I could see them.

Don't bother responding with "Adobe does not support thumbnails" or something similar. Any work around that does not involve deleting all masks and channels "just in case" one of them randomly spikes the thumbnail. As mentioned, it seems to occur randomly; I have hundreds of tiles with scores of masks and channels that produced clear thumbnails. Perhaps one in twenty grabs a random alpha channel and obscures the preview. I'm getting tired of wasting HD space saving a PNG clone with every PSD to save myself the hassle of opening up dozens of PSD files to find the one I need to work on.

AutoCad :: 3D To 2D Isometric Look In Top View FLATTEN / FLATSHOT Commands?

Nov 16, 2013

I have created an object in 3ds max and exported as dwg. file to open it in autocad. The purpose for importing that shape in autocad was to set an isometric view of that object and use it in my 2D drawings for annotation and explanation purposes.

What I am trying to achieve is to have that isometric view flattened, but in top (drafting) view along my plan section and elevations so that it looks as if it has been drafted in 2D if that makes sense.

So far I have come across two commands - FLATTEN and FLATSHOT. When using FLATTEN command I get the flattened 2d splines from that object as desired, but in that orthographic view. As soon as I start rotating the flat shape gets distorted and I cant get back to it's original flattened state.

FLATSHOT immediately comes with an error saying that it is not a solid so nothing can be projected. Explode the object then use command - converttosurface this works and I can initiate the FLATSHOT command but the shape has all this extra geometry after converting it to surface and it is not what I want.

The closest is the FLATTEN command as it also allows me to hide the back edges so that I only get a clean outline of the object. But how can I rotate it and position it in a top view, flat, along the drafted elevation and plan.
