I exported a 3D solid part from inventor 2013 as a DWG file and opened it. The solid is 3 dimensional, how can i explode it and take, for example, only one face of it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was given a STEP file that was created in Solidwoks which when opened in Inventor 12' is a surface.
The surface can be successfully thickened after it is stitched, prior to stitching it fails due to it's complex obround, tapered, bell shape. However, because thicken only thickens perpendicular to the surface I end up with a lot of unusable ends with crazy angles and in many cases additional phantom surfaces which I cannot cut off or sketch on because they don’t really exist. Thickening has not been a serviceable option to this point.
All other techniques I try when making this model from scratch fail or do not match the original surface. Measuring the surface is difficult because the only measurements we get are the lengths of the loops, no radial measurements. Additionally, when I enter the solid I created from scratch into an assembly (whether it’s geometrically correct or not), I cannot constrain it, I can’t click on anything but the working planes – no surface, face or edge can be picked on the solid itself.
Making surfaces into workable solids? Is there anything I should do different? Is the sequence I am using incorrect? Correct order of operations they use to successfully create a solid from a surface?
Am a new user to LR and having a problem when importing .mov files into LR4.2. RAW & JPEG files import fine but the .mov files [from my Oly E-M5] show up as a solid green thumbnail. Imported the latest Quicktime, have a 64bit Vista system. why the .mov files are not importing properly?
View 2 Replies View RelatedGot a part from our vendor. When I place this in an idw, some of the lines are missing.
In the model, there are no surfaces. None of the solids failed on the import. No problems appear in the model browser.
First tried turning on Tangent edges in the idw. No joy there.
When I right click on the view in the idw and select "Include All Surfaces", the edges are shown while the view is computing, but after it computes, the edges are gone again. The .step file that was sent to me is 10MB and the ipt is 32MB.

I copied some lines with global widths into another drawing and the line is displayed and printed with an outline around the global width of the line in the new drawing.. almost like it is a (3D offset for the global width, and not solid fill)
I have checked my fillmode. "fillmode = 1" and I also checked my UCS "UCS is set to current"
Why is this happening and if it has to do with some inherent properties of that new dwg?
I have a swept solid that FLATSHOT will not hide the obscured lines for. In the FLATSHOT dialogue box, I have tried all options, with different results. Any setting that I can change or alternate method that I can use to get 2D geometry from this solid that I can use in my 2D drawing?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues involving hidden lines that should not be hidden lines in the idw environment.
I am using Inventor 2010 suite, 64-bit. I have largish assembly modeled with several sub-assemblies and a few reference assemblies. Some of the reference models are shrinkwraps from other large assemblies (surface type shrinkwrap, link broken), and other reference models are acutal assemblies that I am unable to shrinkwrap because I need the positional reps that they provide.
When I place my parent assembly, with all the normal and reference models included, on an idw, large portions of the reference models do not show up. If I change my line style to show hidden lines, the missing parts show up. At first, I thought that it may be because the reference parts in question were not originally in the view due to the reference data margin, so I started a new sheet and set the margin large enough to show the entire machine, as well as the state of Michigan, before I set the base view, but I still don't get those parts unless I enable hidden lines.
Even at that, Inventor is not behaving consistently. Some of the parts that won't show unless hidden lines enabled are fabricated parts that I or a co-worker modeled, some of the parts were imported from SAT, STEP and IGES files, and some of them are shrinkwrap parts. On top of that, some of the parts will show up normal (without hidden lines shown) if I change the part's BOM structure from reference to normal, while others still will not show unless hidden lines are enabled, regardless of the BOM structure. Keep in mind, none of these parts are hidden behind anything in the model, even with everything visible in my design view rep, so what's causing Inventor to think these parts are hidden.

I have a problem with a File in Autocad.
We have a dynamic block here at work that has a solid hatch in it. It is a simple block which only utilizes a dropdown menu.
This block is a circle with a solid hatch in it. However when I select the block via dropdown menu, the hatch is not solid, it is a bunch of lines originating from the center of the circle.
I have never had this problem before with this block and nothing has changed with the block.
It also works fine when I open up other drawings.
This tells me that there is a problem with the settings of this specific file but I cannot figure out what setting.
I believe the problem occurred because I brought my work home with me and I have different settings on my autocad (both ACAD 2011).
I saw some years ago a 3D drawing where hidden lines were dashed after hide command. I tried to find out, how it was made, but nothing. Today I need this solution, but I can't find information, how is it possible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm laying out a drawing. I use a visual style with facet edges and occluded edges dashed and intersection edges dashed. To give my lines hidden fo fabricators to know witch way to face angle iron and so on. But here is the big problem i do a veiw port with 4 shots 1 isometric solid 1 top hidden lines front hidden lines and right hidden lines. so first time i plot it, it will work fine then i go back to plot then the lines ither become not shown at all or they will be solid. even know the veiwport still shows them as hidden lines. If I delete the veiwport and make a new veiport all over again it will work for a single print then will not show it all over again.

I have drawn a site plan in model space at 1to1 scale. I try to draw hidden lines to show demolition. In paper space the scale is set to 1"=50" to fit on paper. But all the hidden lines plot solid. I had changed LTSCALE, PSLTSCALE, to 1. This problem keeps happening in most every thing I draw.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn 2011 max design, i was able to create windows (frame, glass etc) in the top view by tracing over imported cad lines. i could then group those components, rotate them 90 degrees to orient them properly, then create a plane at 0" on the z-axis and align that group to the plane in the z-axis min/min. so the rotated window group would rise upward and the bottom of the window group would be at 0" in the z-axis. now, now matter what combination of things i try, i can't get the group to do that. i have to un-group and align each component individually.
I just tried it by creating 3 boxes all smaller than the previously created one and as soon as i group it, the min-min align doesn't work when those 3 boxes are grouped. individualy it work, but then of course the smaller boxes line up at 0 in the z-axis too.

From the image you can see, i'm wanting the space between the lines filled to create a solid black background behind the stripes in the logo. As well as the space between the circle and the inner line.
I've tried several options on the pathfinder panel. There's got to be an easier way than recreating the whole shape with the pen tool.
I just received an almost-new Wacom CTL-470 tablet from my father yesterday, so naturally I began fooling around with Photoshop line drawings and simple art.
The initial problem I discovered was that, oddly enough, the basic brush tools, when dragged, would not create a solid line. It would only create a dotted line, the spaces between dots varying with speed of the pen against the tablet.
If I dragged the pen slowly enough (very... very slowly), it would create a kind of shaky line, which was just dots very close together.
Naturally I thought it was the tablet's fault, but upon trying to use the mouse to do the same function, the problem persisted.
I use Photoshop CS and I didn't change any settings at all today.
I would also like to know how I can use my tablet to create a tapering effect with my pen pressure. The "pen pressure" setting in the Brushes menu seemed to have no effect.
Here's an example of the issue, both in large brushes and a smaller one in the background.
I am starting with a scanned pencil drawing, which often has very broken, rough lines, no matter how dark or clean I try to draw. I am looking to turn these lines into clean, solid lines, of one uniform color, for use in another program which relies on completed loops and no breaks in lines.
I've tried tools such as Trace Contour, but this isn't doing quite what I'm looking for. I'm very new to Photoshop, so I'm hoping there is something I am missing. Something like the magnetic lasso would work wonders, if only I could brush that line instead of making a selection.
