AutoCAD Inventor :: Solid / Visible Parts Showing Up As Hidden Lines On IDW

Aug 3, 2010

I'm having issues involving hidden lines that should not be hidden lines in the idw environment.

I am using Inventor 2010 suite, 64-bit.  I have  largish assembly modeled with several sub-assemblies and a few reference assemblies.   Some of the reference models are shrinkwraps from other large assemblies (surface type shrinkwrap, link broken), and other reference models are acutal assemblies that I am unable to shrinkwrap because I need the positional reps that they provide.

When I place my parent assembly, with all the normal and reference models included, on an idw, large portions of the reference models do not show up.  If I change my line style to show hidden lines, the missing parts show up.  At first, I thought that it may be because the reference parts in question were not originally in the view due to the reference data margin, so I started a new sheet and set the margin large enough to show the entire machine, as well as the state of Michigan, before I set the base view, but I still don't get those parts unless I enable hidden lines.

Even at that, Inventor is not behaving consistently.  Some of the parts that won't show unless hidden lines enabled are fabricated  parts that I or a co-worker modeled, some of the parts were imported from SAT, STEP and IGES files, and some of them are shrinkwrap parts.  On top of that, some of the parts will show up normal (without hidden lines shown) if I change the part's BOM structure from reference to normal, while others still will not show unless hidden lines are enabled, regardless of the BOM structure.  Keep in mind, none of these parts are hidden behind anything in the model, even with everything visible in my design view rep, so what's causing Inventor to think these parts are hidden.

AutoCAD LT :: 2012 - Dashed Lines In Model Space Plot As Solid Line

Mar 3, 2013

I have drawn a site plan in model space at 1to1 scale.  I try to draw hidden lines to show demolition.  In paper space the scale is set to 1"=50" to fit on paper.  But all the hidden lines plot solid.  I had changed LTSCALE,  PSLTSCALE,  to 1. This problem keeps happening in most every thing I draw.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Converting Complex Solid Surface To Solid Model

Aug 12, 2013

I have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To View / Use Hole Centers Or Construction Lines

Dec 1, 2011

i've got this snowboard rack that i need to layout/markup with some #8 machine screw holes (with countersink for tapered wood screw head) - two on the end of each stretcher to fasten them to the uprights - 8 in total.  I also want to layout 8 more holes on the stretchers themselves.  I've got some center holes marked in the sketches..but they're not visible when i activate the hole feature so i can properly place the holes?

why i can't extrude the 4 spacers i've got sketched on the back of the stretchers into a solid . . . . i can only cut?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hide Part Sketch Construction Lines?

May 16, 2011

Is there any way to hide construction lines in Part & Assembly sketches in the same way you can in a Drawing sketch?

I know you can change the line colour to the background colour but this makes the lines invisible in sketch as well.

Not being able to hide the construction is making some layouts pretty pointless since relevant detail is obscured by the construction lines. Grounding the geommetry and deleting the construcion lines isn't an option since the sketches are part of the design development and not fixed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Have Construction Lines Already Drawn When Starting New Sketch

Aug 24, 2012

I'm wanting to have vertical and horizontal construction lines already created whenever I start a sketch so that I can set symmetric constraints to the part I'm drawing up. At the moment, I have to draw both lines every time and constrain them to the center point. It would be much easier if it was already there when I started so I can start on the sketch right away. Is there a way to do this? I've included a photo of what I'd like to do.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Surface Model Into Solid Model?

Jan 15, 2013

My problem today is that I made a Model of a Part of a ship using surfaces rather than solids because the engineer thought it would be easier to bring into ANSYS program for analysis but he is now having a problem with it and I am looking into converting my current model to solid. I can do it but the method I thought of using is quite long winded and we are working to a tight deadline.

1.open up the surface part

2.use "Offset/Thicken"

3.any clashes between parts make a sketch and cut away.

the problem is the amount of plates I have and the time it takes to sort them out.

3ds Max Modeling :: How To Create Construction Lines

Jul 26, 2012

I want to create a animation like this with a very Engineering Drawing theme to it: URL....I have also attached two images (stills) from the animation.

The question is, how do I create the "construction" lines (i.e. the blue marker lines) that go beyond the models? Is this something I should consider doing in post?

My current approach is to use planes with textures of the "construction" lines and linked to 3D models. The lines would also look like marker pen/pencil lines.

An alternative could be to use lots of lines and make then render-able but then they would look too perfect and not pencil graphite or marker lines.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Surface To Solid Model / Turn Off Yellow Edges In Surface Model

Mar 4, 2008

We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.

I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....

AutoCad :: Can't Extend Construction Line Across Both Viewports To Snap Them To Construction Line

Dec 24, 2011

Everything is on one layout/sheet.

Currently there are a total of 3 viewports in an L formation. The fourth viewport, will go in the upper right. But first, I have to get these aligned.

I think the viewports themselves are fine enough. The problems arise because the model is in Model space so, construction line (as far as I can tell) didn't want to snap to a line, (on the model,) in Paper space.(vertical or horizontal) So, I can only see the construction line, in one viewport at a time. Which means, the construction line is not visible in the viewport immediately to the left. So, I can't extend the construction line across both viewports, to to snap them to the construction line.

How do i get rid of jagged lines?

Circles and diagonal lines look rubbish when i am in hidden view which i use for simple 3d black / white (i think this is the best way?).

I have tried:

- viewres (1000, 5000, 10000, 20000 sightly better)
- regen

See examples.

AutoCAD 2013 :: 2D Solid Only Showing As A Frame

I have a user who has been using certain solids for years with no problems but now having one.

These are simple flat object types "solid" objects that are simple direction arrows. If I print it from model space they are filled in. If I look at it and/or print it from paper space (in a viewport) it shows up only as an outline of the arrow.

FILLMODE is set to 1, have tried 0 also, doesn't change anything.

I have tried extrude, sweep with aligned to path, and sweep not aligned - then put a patch on both ends. Use the command "surfsculpt" and it will not convert due to not being water tight. I delete the 3d poly and path line before patching.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Linetypes Showing Up Solid (on Screen And When Plotted)

Oct 15, 2013

We recieved some drawings from a client for updating.  The Pneumatic, System Link and Heat Trace lines all show up solid in the drawings when I open them up in AutoCAD 2012.  We tried opening them in AutoCAD 2004 and are experiencing the same issue.  In the Linetype Manager menu, under Description, the linetypes appear correct.  Under Appearance, Heat Trace and Pneumatic appear solid and System Link appears dashed (just as they do in the drawing itself).

Here's the kicker.  A co-worker has AutoCAD 2004 on his laptop and everything shows up and plots out just fine.

AutoCad 3D :: 3D Faces Or Surface To 3D Solid Model?

Sep 17, 2013

I have a model of a boat from some database. It's build from 3D faces but I would like to make it a 3D solid with a thickness of 3mm.

I can convert the faces into a surface, but i can't seem to get any of the two models into a 3D solid. I have tried thicken, convtosolid and a lot of other options without luck.

I was wondering if I could make two surfaces, one smaller than the other, place them ontop of eachother and create solid between them?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Convert 3D Scan To Solid Model

Nov 4, 2013

I am working on a research project that requires that I scan a cast object and shell it out to a width of .125 inches. I used my school's 3D scanner to scan the cast, and I have a good model. I've made it a surface and exported it as an STP and an IGS into Inventor. I used the Sculpt feature to make it a solid object, but then I could not shell it because a few flaws in the cast made miniscule holes.

I then tried to use the scanning program's spline feature to cut the cast into splines to loft in Inventor. However, this made 5 non-connected lines at each location, so I couldn't loft. How to create a solid and then shell with either method?

In attempting to use either 'export face as' or 'export sketch as' from a solid model in Inventor 2013 the resultant DXF file ALWAYS consists of PolyLines.  This prevents other "downstream" software from properly importing the file as a DXF.  Thus far the ONLY work-around I have found is to open the DXF in AutoCAD, Explode the polylines, and then re-save as a DXF from AutoCAD.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Animation With Shaded Solid Model

Aug 23, 2009

I am trying to do some minor animation with a shaded solid model. I have tried mslide and a script... this make s very jerky, flashing animation.

I tried a lisp routine to move the object in small increments, again the motion is very flashy and slow, as it appears to struggle perhaps with the shading.

I noticed doing a move command, and moving the same object manually, dragging the object around the screen with a mouse makes for pretty smooth motion. Way better than what I was doing.... Is there a way to do this programatically?
