AutoCAD Inventor :: Allows Hiding Of DIMENSION Lines And ARROWS In IDW Files?
Sep 23, 2011
Inventor 2010 suite
If IV2010 allows hiding of the DIMENSION lines and ARROWS in an IDW files? I found a thread from 2009 that says it is impossible.
However, I found a way to hide them on some RETRIEVED dimensins, but not on others.
How to MANUALLY, or to create STYLE that hides MY choice of:
1. EXTENSION LINES,
2. DIMENSION LINES,
3. ARROWS

How can I print a dimension with its arrows but without it's dimension lines?
For example--I draw a rectangle and draw a horizontal dimension across the center of the rectangal. Then I flip the arrows and drag the number to the left outside of the rectangal. I want arrows facing inward from the left and right and the number out to the left. I don't want a line stretched across the center of the rectangal.

Sometimes when I plot/publish a DWF or PDF the arrows extend past the extension lines. I need the point of my arrows always end at the extension line?

The dimension arrws are not printed even though it is shown properly in print preview. I though that it was too small to be shown on print but eventually I do not think that this is the case

When I have to scale something after bringing it in from another drawing (Windows copy, paste), usually (but strangely not always, it seems) the dimension text and arrows are all messed up. If I scale down, they are (obviously) way too big, up, and they are microscopic. How is this best avoided / dealt with? I imagine it is something with the DIMSTYLE not being copied over or something?

Using Autocad 2014. I recently changed our dimension style fill color to background. Now when we create pdf files, there are random lines either to left of the text or left and top of text. It is not every dimension. We had it set to none before and would trim lines around dimension text. We did not have problems with pdf until changing the fill color. It plots from autocad to plotter without a problem.

I have made thousands of sheet metal parts and their associated drawings without issue but this time, I made a part and attempted to make a drawing but dimension lines won't attach to certain geometry in the drawing. It acts like it will until I click the second line for the dimension then it errors, telling me the same error message that comes up when you delete a feature that previously had a dimension.
I also can't place an origin for doing a hole chart, for example. It just turns purple and says it isn't attached even though it clearly is.

I have a problem with Inventor 2013. The dimension lines have disappeared. I've been through all the dimension styles and layers to make sure I hadn't turned one off
All other drawings are fine and if I create another even using the same model it works just fine but I'd rather find out why than re-do the whole drawing.

I have a template IDW that i use for bearings. When I opened it today I noticed that two of the dimension lines were missing. The dimension and arrows are there. I tried deleting them are recreating them with the same result.
The interesting thing is, when I created the dim above the part it was fine, when I dragged it below the part the lines went away. After that no matter were I moved it the lines would not reappear.
I installed SP1 a while ago and just now installed the update to SP1 (DL20857064.zip). It did not fix the problem.

We resently upgraded to Inventor 2013 and since then we have been having an issue of dimension and leader lines being hidden under a text box or some other drawing entity.
This is very confusing since the text box does not have a white out associated with it, nore is there a way to put the test box to the back and dimension lines to the front...
It seems like our puppet masters that program this amassing tool where up to something and didn't quite get there.
IT sure would be nice (or an absolute requirement) that this gets fixed so I don't have to learn new hoops to jump through to get a quality drawing out of Inventor.

I am wondering about something called a "dimbreak" command to break demension lines. I heard it has been used in AutoCad. Is it also something available to Inventor users? I can't find anything when I search for it in Inventor and I need to be able to "explode" or otherwise change my dimensions manually so I can break dimension lines as they pass over other dimension lines.

It shows the old position of lines after a zoom, or rotate or move, etc. And it shows half of my dimension values.
Also I seem to have some ghost projections of assembly parts when I do the assembly tutorials.
Like holes and wire frames on strange places on my screen.
I have to zoom in and out randomly and wish for it to go away at some point..

I have a swept solid that FLATSHOT will not hide the obscured lines for. In the FLATSHOT dialogue box, I have tried all options, with different results. Any setting that I can change or alternate method that I can use to get 2D geometry from this solid that I can use in my 2D drawing?

I am having an issue with plotting a drawing that includes an xref. I have also included an attachment as reference.
I am working in AutoCAD 2010; I have a drawing that includes another drawing as an xref. The xref is on layer “0” in model space and my titleblock, annotation and viewports are in paper space (layout tab). I am using color dependent plot styles (.STB). The xref is a 3D model created with basic AutoCAD solids representing steel shapes, there are also some line segments representing the steel centerlines. The viewport is a plan view of the 3D steel model, the view is not clipped. Since the xref contains 3D objects when I print the drawing I don't want the “hidden” lines to show up, I accomplish this by setting the viewport shade plot setting to “HIDDEN”.
Here is the problem:
When I print the drawing the xref’s layers do not print correctly but rather take on the properties of layer “0” which has a plot style of “NORMAL” so everything prints in color and with a default lineweight. I want the xref to print using the xref’s layer properties that are defined in the .STB file. One variable that changes the outcome of the printed drawing is the viewport shade plot setting.
If the viewport shade plot is set to HIDDEN the xref prints using layer “0” properties (undesired) and the3D object lines are hidden (desired). See attached Viewport #1
If the viewport shade plot is set to AS DISPLAYED the xref prints using the xref’s layer properties (desired) but the 3D object lines are not hidden (undesired). See attached Viewport #2
The ONLY difference between the two viewports is the shade plot setting, there are no layer overrides and only the xref objects are affected, the objects in paper space print as expected. This only happens with an xref or block. If I bind the xref into the drawing and explode it so the objects are “live” in the drawing everything works fine. Unfortunately I need it to work correctly with an xref.
If I use a color dependent plot style (.CTB) where the .CTB file controls the color and lineweight I am able to achieve the desired results, unfortuneatly my company is determined to use .STB files

I'm inserting dimensions and the tics keep coming out huge and not on the dimension line, in fact there's one on either side 20 ft out. If I change the drawing scale in the tab at a the bottom the tics get smaller and closer in, but they are still off the dimension string by a long shot.

I am using the default Revit break lines in a few of my plans, and they work great. But when I insert them into an RCP, the masking region does not mask anything. Tried send to front/back, copying, inserting new. My other masking regions will still work as they are supposed to, but this break line does not.

I am making a multiview drawing with isometric of a certain sheet metal part. Due to manufacturing reasons, they have to make the part longer than necessary to get a bend in it then I will have them shear off the extra. Is there a way I can show the multiview and flat pattern WITH the extra material and show the isometric WITHOUT that extra? In the model I remove the excess with a cut but I don't know how to suppress a feature for one view and not another.

I am working on detailing an assembly that requires two parts to be bolted together and then have a hole bored through both parts. I want to show the assembly without the bore and then with the bore. I do not want to have to create a derived part. There should be a way of toggling this extrusion in the assembly view, but I have not yet found it.

Is there a way to override a dimension and have it shown as a GD&T Basic dimension. I can override a dimension with the text option but not with a box around the letter. It sounds strange to do this but the letter represents a dimension in a chart format that are Basic dimensions.
