I am currently setting up some new blocks for a handrail and balustrade system. Our supplier has handed me 100's of 3D drawings of components, I now need to convert these to 2D blocks to be used within drawings.
View 1 RepliesI´m trying to write a script to convert all the blocks in a drawing to mass elements and export them to IGES thereafter.
I would like to select everything first. Then launch refedit and select all the blocks.
After that I would like to convert them to mass elements. When saving to IGES I would need to select everything again.
I pieced the following script together, but it fails. I think it is bexause of the request to select objects manually. Could I add a delay which would enable me to select an object?
Also it looks like ACADA is not accepting the "all" command when pselect is called by a script.

We need to be able to open MDT 2008 3D drawings in Autodesk Mechanical 2013.
I also would like to know if there is a way to convert a lot of files? (like using a batch or something similar)
I have a project in 3D that I would like to export to Stadd. This requires lines rather than blocks. Is is possible to convert the blocks in the attached dwg file to to lines that are centered on those blocks?

1- crane model or base
2- crane boom has different lengths and needs to rotate at pivot point
3- crane jib has different length and offsets from the crane boom
You can do this in one block or do you need to have 3 separate blocks and just piece together?
Is there a program available to convert newer Autocad files to older versions? I have a 2012 file that I want to read in 2008.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to update a template which has custom drawing properties. In AutoCad LT 2012 (and obviously full autocad) there is an UPDATEFIELD command which updates the drawing properties.
This command is not known in my version of AutoCad LT 2008. Is there another command I can use?
I recently upgraded from map 2008 to civil 3d 2010. Whenever I open a drawing that was last saved/used in my map 2008 program, it freezes upon opening and tells me there are errors. If I ignore the problem, I can continue to open and work on drawing, but every time I open it up, I get the errors and the freeze. Is there something I can do in civil 3d 2010 that will bypass whatever is freezing it up? I have included a drawing that is freezing up in civil 3d 2009 and/or 2010 that was created with map 08
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using the "Make components" feature to convert solid bodies into parts. This works great, but we use this method to construct angular roof structures, and after the parts have been made the parts have angular relationships to the .ipt files UCS co-ordinates. It would be very useful if I could align the longest edge of the part (Which is a timber truss) with the x axis in the model space and "lay" the plank flat on the X-Y plane.
View 4 Replies View RelatedTypically at my company we rotate our drawing orientation under the Projects - Drawing Setup - Orientation. Rotate the drawing to a known basis of bearings. Then we label the boundary and the bearings are rotated to match the basis of bearings without having to rotate the drawing in model space. Just reciently my labels havne't been holding the orientation. So when I add a static or dynamic label the bearing reads as though my orientation is due north. BUT, when I loook at the line priperties, the bearing is correct, as it has held the orientation.

If i make the polycarbonate invisible, the missing parts appear again. This strange phenomenon started today. It didn't happen before, and no parts were missing behind the clear polycarbonate.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I manipulate a height parameter all of the dynamic blocks in the drawing from one single field? Say a field located in the drawing properties or on the drawing itself.
For example: Multiple blocks of different walls of same height with other blocks of things on located on those walls, dependant on the wall height, all linked to and changed by a single field. Possibly a Wall Height field located in the custom tab of the drawing properties.
I can pickout each of the blocks and change them at the same time in properites menu because they all share the same parameter name. I would just like to have that height parameter of every block in the drawing, that has that specific parameter controled by a single field. Which I could enter a new height at anytime that would change every block in the drawing to that height.
I am working on a large plant piping project and while I've seen this behavior before I've never seen it this bad.
Attached is a screen shot of a small portion of the assembly drawing in which you can see a good example of what I'm dealing with.
At the top you can see a weld neck flange that appears to be attached to air where there should be an elbow. In the middle you can see that on one side of the elbow there is missing geometry.
At the bottom is another flange that attached to air where there should be an elbow. This drawing is littered with these errors and as such is unsuitable for even a reference document.
I have turned visibility of these components off and on without resolution. I have turned on tangent and interference edges without resolution.
I have translated a copy to ACAD to see if it's simply graphical but the ACAD file shows the same errors. I have checked parallel and perpendicularity and all is well.

Here is the history. I originally created a part with multiple solid bodies.
After creating it I was told we needed to make it an assembly. So what I did instead of recreating each component I called up the original multi-bodied part and did save as copies.
Then deleted the portions of the model I didn't need with only the part needed left.
Then I took all of those parts and assembled them together to form an assembly.
Now, here inlies the problem. When I go to make a drawin gof this assembly all of the balloons are coming up with the same item number as it was when it was a multi-bodied part.
It is clearly an assembly based on the model tree and the file extension.
I have a assembly,I want to judge all the occ referenced file state, opened or not?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded a .SAT part from 3dcontentcentral.com and i would like to use it in an assembly i am creating. Problem is, once i pulled it into Inventor, I am unable to edit the part to match the dimensions necessary for my assembly. How do i go about editing this part? Is there a way that i can copy the components of the part and paste into a new drawing, save as a normal part, then edit? I have attached a screenshop of the part so you can see the Model tree.
p.s. I would simply redraw the part, however i am having a lot of difficulty getting it to look as i want it to.
I am drawing a house with a hip roof. The roof has a overhang with fascia and soffit. What is the best way to construct the components of the roof system. Should the hip roof and the soffit with fascia to be one system or two separate systems?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am editing an existing block to change the lineweight and have tried using the REFEDIT command as well as double clicking the block to take me into the block editor and making my changes there. I am sucessfully able to edit my block and make the changes using both of these methods. Where I am running into an issue is that the block I have edited only retains its new settings within the drawing that I changed it in. If I insert that same block into a new drawing I have to re-edit the block again the make the changes that I want. Why are my blocks not retaining their settings from drawing to drawing.

I started to convert ACAD blocks to mass elements in order to convert them to IGES.
I need to import AutoCAD 3D objects to Factory Design Suite. The conversion takes
quite some time on my 1230V2 Xeon and I wondered if I could reduce the precision of
the conversion in order to speed things up?
All the Options like facetdev don´t apply to the conversion but to the view in ACAD only.
I want to take two 3D views from (autodesk) Revit Architecture 2012 to Illustrator CS5 and then make use of the live paint bucket tool*. I've printed the two 3D views into pdf files and imported them in Illustrator**. When I select the whole image in Illustrator and then click with the Live Paint Bucket tool on the drawing to modify the drawing so I can color the surfaces, Illustrator gives me the following error:
"The selection contains objects that cannot be converted. Live Paint groups can only contain paths and compound paths. Clipping paths are not allowed."
Exporting images (jpg, png and tiff) from Revit results in the same error. Is there a way to easily convert my vector drawing into a non-clipping paths drawing? Also I'm not sure if the problem should be found in either Revit or Illustrator. What's also strange is that I'm using a tutorial provided by my university, in which there are no issues with clipping paths or anything.
* This in order to make an conceptual image of my building, which I've modeled in Revit. I want to add basic colors to surfaces in Illustrator and then take the image to Photoshop to add shadow, materials, sky etc.
** They only consist of lines, using the 'hidden line' visual style in my views in Revit, in case you know a bit of Revit.

I can't imagine there's a right or wrong way, just wanted get your input. Chances are you all know something I don't.
