AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Opening Drawing In 2010 That Was Created In Map 2008
Oct 14, 2013
I recently upgraded from map 2008 to civil 3d 2010. Whenever I open a drawing that was last saved/used in my map 2008 program, it freezes upon opening and tells me there are errors. If I ignore the problem, I can continue to open and work on drawing, but every time I open it up, I get the errors and the freeze. Is there something I can do in civil 3d 2010 that will bypass whatever is freezing it up? I have included a drawing that is freezing up in civil 3d 2009 and/or 2010 that was created with map 08

We recently migrated our fileshare project drawings from Window Server 2003 to Window Server 2008-R2 x64...We are experiencing slowness opening or only right click button on more dwg on XP Pro 32/64bit workstation.
Problem repeats if you try to copy many dwg files from windows explorer, right button properties..i have already disabled "validate digital signatures and display special icons" on each machine .There isn't any slowness problem opening files on other application e.g.. Office.

I have created a new drawing template using an iLogic Form and Prompted Entry. What I would like is a Rule that is generated when a user opens a new drawing template. The rule that is created would open up the new iLogic Form I created where various Title Block information is entered (Client Name, Client Address, Date, Drawn By, etc... I know you can manually open the iLogic Form that I created via the iLogic tab, but I would prefer the form open upon opening the new drawing. Once comlpeted, the user than imputs the Prompted Entry values (Drawing Name, Drawing Number, etc...).

Typically at my company we rotate our drawing orientation under the Projects - Drawing Setup - Orientation. Rotate the drawing to a known basis of bearings. Then we label the boundary and the bearings are rotated to match the basis of bearings without having to rotate the drawing in model space. Just reciently my labels havne't been holding the orientation. So when I add a static or dynamic label the bearing reads as though my orientation is due north. BUT, when I loook at the line priperties, the bearing is correct, as it has held the orientation.

I am having trouble opening a drawing created by other software, I am using the following
(defun c:water ()
(setq acApp (vlax-get-acad-object))
(setq acDocs (vla-get-documents acApp))
(vla-open acDocs "L:/GIS_CAD/CAD NZMG/Water/Water Nov08.dwg")
)
If I try the routine I get ; error: Automation Error. Error Decrypting Data.
If I open the drawing normally (that works) and save as a dxf, then open the dxf and save it again as a dwg the routine works. I use the routine for 5 seperate drawings that get updated every month and would rather have a routine that opens the drawings without the fiddle.

Three years ago I created a drawing in which I inserted Hyperlinks into the drawing. When I made a PDF from the drawing the Hyperlinks were still there and worked correctly from the PDF. Not sure which version of AutoCAD this was created from. I am now using 2012 and have tried to repeat the process but when I create the PDF the Hyperlinks are not there.

I have created a viewport on a drawing within a layout tab. When I go into paper space the available scale options are in metric units e.g. 1:500. When selecting the scale that I require that should allow the drawing detail to fit within the viewport it is too large even when the smallest scale available (1:5000) should easily be adequate for the detail to fit within the viewport. The detail within model space has been drawn in millimetres.
I guess that some defaults, scaling options are conflicting with each other.

Recently upgraded to Civil 3D 2013 and drawings opened up fine. Now today any drawing that opens shows the plan view as last saved but then after loading takes the drawing and shifts it into a 3d view similar to a crossection. Is there a setting somewhere that has been changed? I noticed after a windows 7 update was preformed.

I've been looking through old threads on here that all seem to date back to 2008 for this same problem I'm having, but the way to fix them only seems to work for Windows XP and I'm currently on Windows 7.
Problem:
I'll have a session of ACA 2008 running and if I double click on another dwg file it starts up another session of ACA instead of opening within the current session I'm already running. My SDI setting = 0. I tried switching it to 1 and that didn't work. Put it back to 0 and still didn't change anything.
One of the older threads on here [URL] .... says to go in to windows explorer/ tools / folder options, but that set up is different now in Windows 7 than it was in XP so I can't get to Files Tab and change anything for dwg.

We are running LT 2010. I have one drawing that crashes Autocad while the drawing is trying to open. The drawing is about 13 Meg. The crash occurs when it gets to the regen step. The program does not continue and it is necessary to go to the Task Manager. Autocad shows as not responding. Performance shows 50 - 100% CPU usage. The task must be ended. CPU usage drops to < 10%. The recovery utilities say that everything is OK and make no difference. It is doing the same thing on another PC. About 10 Meg of the file is one block. I can open that block separately without a problem.

Every few weeks when opening a drawing, my computer restarts (just plain crashes windows and it restarts automatically). This only happens using AutoCAD, no other program has done this as of yet. I have no service packs installed and I haven't seen another post that refers to this problem. When I click on "Check for solution", nothing comes up.

On the average 1 out of 10 drawings will open up with a blank display. By clicking randomley on the screen until a line is high lighted and using the re command the drawing will appear. This has started happening after switching to Win 7pro 64 bit and Autocad 64 bit. This happens on various machines in the office, and on differant files made by differant computers.
Display is set to black. Layout is set to white.
I have tried various display drivers, the ones from the mfg, and the ones that have been tuned for S W. no effect same problem.

I had an issue using 3D 2010. In my drawing I had a layer for my windows. My windows were nicely put together and design on the window layer. Next thing that happens I turn on my drawing today to come and find my windows are now saved on my viewport layer and the viewport layer took the properties of my window layer. Now last night when I plotted out the drawing I made viewports on a layer for viewports and that was the last layer I had used so it was current. What I want to know is why the hell did the layer dominate my window layer with taking the properties of my window layer. I did not merge them!

I'm trying to update a template which has custom drawing properties. In AutoCad LT 2012 (and obviously full autocad) there is an UPDATEFIELD command which updates the drawing properties.
This command is not known in my version of AutoCad LT 2008. Is there another command I can use?

On opening a C3D 2013 drawing, C3D hangs for about 5 minutes. At the bottom of the screen is the message: "Upgrading COGO points". This drawing is only 974KB.
The drawing is being opened from a network . I tried saving it on a local hard drive. That had no effect.

tool palettes from a directory called ACAD2008 to ACAD2012. Tool palettes can't find the associated blocks because the support path still points to the ACAD200 Directory.
Is there a way to "globally" change the associated path? There are too many blocks to think about changing each one manually.

We are in the middle of upgrading from C3D 2008 to C3D 2013 and are having problems with the data shortcuts. It appears that in 2013 you have to specify a data shortcut project folder and within that folder would be folders for individual projects. In 2008, we just put the data shortcuts within each specific project folder now that we have started working on projects that were setup in 2008, I am not seeing how in the heck we can access or create references to those existing shortcuts. I know we have skipped 5 versions of acad, but I would hope there would be a way to import or access existing project data.

We have been using Stringer Connect to convert our SDR files to RW5 then FBK, but have recently tried the Survey Link for Civil3D2008.
We use a field code "EC" for edge of concrete. Stringer handles this just fine, but whenever Survey Link sees EC it removes the code from the RW5 file, so we end up with points with no codes and no strings joining them.

I work with a national company that creates criteria drawings for new projects. They recently changed to the 2012 version but they save it down to 2007. There has not been an issue with opening files with my 2009 version until recently. All of the computers in our office are unable to open these new files, although they claim nothing has changed. My CAD will pop up a fatal error and shut down whenever I attempt to open the new files. I downloaded the 2013 trial version and saved the file down to the older version, but that does not work either. Newer versions do not seem to be affected by the files, just my 2009 version. I tried creating a new file in 2013 and saved down to 2007 format. When I try to open it 2009 there is no issue. besides purchasing a new version of AutoCAD?

I have two drawings A and B. I work in A and I need some design elements from B.
When I open the drawing B everything I have in drawing A disappeared. I refer to all elements of design (blocks, lines, polylines, etc.).
After studying the issue have concluded that the design of all elements were automatically isolated. Right click> Isolate> End Object Isolation and everything reappears in drawing A.
I mention that I installed Autocad Map 3D 2012 x64 on Windows 7 x64 and work in Map Classic Workspace using the same coordinate system in both drawings.
