We need to be able to open MDT 2008 3D drawings in Autodesk Mechanical 2013.
I also would like to know if there is a way to convert a lot of files? (like using a batch or something similar)
I am using AutoCAD Mechanical 2013 and need to save a file as an AutoCAD LT 2008 for a friend to work in. I can only save it as AutoCAD LT 2004, is there a way for me to add AutoCAD LT 2008 as an option? If not is there a compatibility pack for him that he can download. There was a slight issue in the transfer. Im not doing anything that uses the mechanical features, just normal autocad features. The option for my computer is better if it is possible.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with some step files I recieved from a vendor for an assembly. Basically what is happening is I download the step file. Then bring it into Mechanical Desktop. When brought into Mechanical desktop, it is downloaded in metric where my entire assembly is in standard/english format. What I did when I had Inventor 2011 is bring the step file into inventor, go to document settings and switch the unit to inch from mm. Then save the step file and when I brought it into Mechanical desktop it was in the correct unit and scale.
Now with 2012 Inventor, when I bring the step file in, it is automatically in english/standard format. So I save the step file out and try to open it in Mechanical desktop only to have the file back into mm and 25.4x the actual size it should be.
how to save the step file out like in 2011 to make sure the unit is saved in the correct format. This is extremely aggrevating and waste of time. I would have had the part reverse engineered by now if i quit trying to use the vendors standard step files.
This problem doesn't only happen with a certain vendor's drawings either, it goes for all step files I have recieved since getting Inventor2012.

I have disabled the Autodesk 360 from the installation list in the network deployment. But this doesn't work. I have also modified the registry and the .ini files but it seems NOTHING works! I'm using AutoCAD Mechanical 2010 and received a .DXF file that contains 'solid' objects. Unfortunately the next tool in my workflow doesn't understand 'solids' only polylines (and a few other basic shapes like circles, lines, etc). Is there some way to convert the object in AutoCAD?
I tried the 'boundary' command but when it asks to 'Pick Points' and I click inside the solid, it always gives the error 'Valid hatch boundary not found'.
What am I missing here?
Is there a program available to convert newer Autocad files to older versions? I have a 2012 file that I want to read in 2008.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are in the middle of upgrading from C3D 2008 to C3D 2013 and are having problems with the data shortcuts. It appears that in 2013 you have to specify a data shortcut project folder and within that folder would be folders for individual projects. In 2008, we just put the data shortcuts within each specific project folder now that we have started working on projects that were setup in 2008, I am not seeing how in the heck we can access or create references to those existing shortcuts. I know we have skipped 5 versions of acad, but I would hope there would be a way to import or access existing project data.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHow can I transfer .dwg files from my old computer (Vista OS) to a new computer (Windows 7) and not have them transfer as "read only"? I have copied the existing files from the old computer to a flash drive and then transfered them using the flash drive to the new computer. They open but as read only. I have tried transfering each folder individually and the files still open as "read only". I have checked the properties on the files and they are identical to those on the original computer and the flash drive. Yet when they transfer to the new computer they come in as read only. I have turned off the "read only" and asked it to override the read only file but as soon as I close and open the .dwg it is still read only. how to make these files active on my new computer?

The manufacturer uses Pro/E but in one of their very cryptic emails they told me to convert all files to .stp and .igs files. What I need to know is which of these file formats applies to assemblies and which applies to part file. In other words, when I open a part file, should I export it as a .stp file, or a .igs file?

Is there any way for mass convert idw files (not same format - A4,A3,A2, ...) to pdf ?
I tried task manager, but i dont have some account for it.
For example - I have to do this:
Open one *.idw file press ctrl+p, set A4 or A3 and then click "ok" button and "save" button (using PDF Creator)
Next step is same - open another *.idw file and save it as pdf, but another *.idw file can have 2 sheets, so I have to open second sheet and do it same thing.
So i have for example
workfolder/part-123.idw
workfolder/part-123.pdf
and i need do this for every *.idw file (including their sheets). So its really long time and i dont have time.
Is there a simple way that would allow - for example to open a folder and convert it all in idw files to PDF automatically ?
I have 2013 inventor/mechinical a cad did not have enought memory on c: drive added another hard drive E: need to move my files to the e drive. single seat all on this computer.

I have created and defined the material in Autodesk Simulate Mechanical and they are available in the material libraries in that program, but inaccessible in Inventor. It doubles my work load if i need to define the materials in both programs and also creates hassles if a change needs to be made to a single material.
The materials are currently saved in .mlb library files. Iventor requests a .asklib file for when trying to add a library.
