AutoCAD Inventor :: Translation Of DWG - Mechanical Desktop Must Be Installed
May 1, 2013
I am using inventor 2012 and am trying to import my MDT(2002) drawings but when I try the translation process I receive an error message that says Mechanical Desktop must be installed. I currently of both Inventor and MDT installed and both operate correctly.
I have a drawing that was sent to me using Autodesk inventor 8 but I want to add it to a drawing I have already started in Mechanical Desktop 2004 is there any way to export the drawing into a format that can be opened by Mechanical Desktop 2004?
I have a problem with some step files I recieved from a vendor for an assembly. Basically what is happening is I download the step file. Then bring it into Mechanical Desktop. When brought into Mechanical desktop, it is downloaded in metric where my entire assembly is in standard/english format. What I did when I had Inventor 2011 is bring the step file into inventor, go to document settings and switch the unit to inch from mm. Then save the step file and when I brought it into Mechanical desktop it was in the correct unit and scale.
Now with 2012 Inventor, when I bring the step file in, it is automatically in english/standard format. So I save the step file out and try to open it in Mechanical desktop only to have the file back into mm and 25.4x the actual size it should be.
how to save the step file out like in 2011 to make sure the unit is saved in the correct format. This is extremely aggrevating and waste of time. I would have had the part reverse engineered by now if i quit trying to use the vendors standard step files.
This problem doesn't only happen with a certain vendor's drawings either, it goes for all step files I have recieved since getting Inventor2012.
.My Inventor2009 keep crashing everytime i'm trying to traslate/import Mech. Desktop2009 files....Windows7 is my os platform. Done all latest SP both for Inventor & Mech Desktop.
We have a minor issue with STEP translations. We keep our templates on the network, and they have a lot of customized settings. Everything is fine until we try to translate a STEP file, then Inventor wants to use the templates on the "C" drive (the ones that came with the software).
Is there a setting I can use to make Inventor use the templates on the network? I've got my "Files" setting in the "Options" pointing to the templates on the network, but Inventor still uses the ones on the "C" drive.
I am trying to model simple translation piece from rectangular to circle (one quarter). There is angle between rectangular side and circle side. I am able to model it very simple, but I have found that Inventor make some errors with lofted flange. Usually this type of translation piece should have flat triangles on the ends and bended triangles in corner. Unfortunately for some combinations of width/depth/diameter Inventor does not keep this rule and add some bended triangle to end edge.
Enclosed is pdf file with picture how this part should look, what is the problem and finally the ipt file is enclosed too. The part is OK with parameter SizeY=250mm and less and is wrong for bigger SizeY (for example 600mm)
I have an assembly of a rod in a cylinder. When compressed, this rod sticks out 10mm from the cylinder. When extended, this rod sticks out 50mm. I am trying to create a drawing which shows the compressed state and extended state together.
how to make this Clamp Rod to Clamp Base Spacer Turn relationship.
this is from the Clamp Project on this site: Inventor Wizard, The Clamp Lever is turning or rotating the clamp rod into the Clamp Base Spacer but I could not simulate the Thread or the Screw motion if that is the term, or the 1 or 1/2 turn of the Clamp Rod to 1 Pitch movement, plus I can't seem to put the Rod inside the Clamp Base Spacer hole when the Contact Solver is ON, maybe modeling issue on my part.
I have Autodesk inventor standard NOT the pro version. I am a Revit professional in dire need of learning Inventor. My exact steps are as follows:
1. Open assembly 2. create component - (simple wheel(cylinder) with an off axis hole in the middle so I can see if it is rotating.) 3. create component- flat surface. 4. constrain the cylinder to the flat surface via a tangent constraint 5. constrain the cylinder to the front edge of the flat surface via a mate constraint. 6. go to motion tab in constraint's, click rotation-translation, type in 10in for distance. 7.wheel does not rotate on surface like a wheel should. There is no affect of the surface on the wheel rotation.
In other words I want to get the circumference of the wheel to rotate 360 degrees as it travels pi*diameter of flat surface.
How I can add materials to the Inventor material library. I have created and defined the material in Autodesk Simulate Mechanical and they are available in the material libraries in that program, but inaccessible in Inventor. It doubles my work load if i need to define the materials in both programs and also creates hassles if a change needs to be made to a single material.
The materials are currently saved in .mlb library files. Iventor requests a .asklib file for when trying to add a library.
I had IT install our network version of IV 2012. That seemed to install flawlessly. I still have IV 2011 on my machine IV 2011 and will be running it for the time being.
My problem is when I try to get the iProperties I get this error. "Plugin not available or not properly installed. Notify the System Administrator that the installation is incomplete. DTCP"
We tried to repair/reinstall 2011 and then removed it and reinstalled, to no avail. I have not tried 2012 yet, as all our files need to be migrated to 2012.
Ist it o.k. or recommneded to have both the 2012 and 2013 versions of AutoDesk Product Design Suite - Premium installed on the same computer? Our design engineers would like this so they can learn the new version while still using the old version, but I'm concerned about the two versions conflicting with each other on the same PC.
I am trying to get the desktop path in an application I made to modify and save the parts list of an IDW. I find this code all over the interent and it looks exactly like what I need:
However when I try to use it it's like the "My" system object isn't there. I'm quite sure it has somethign to do with VBA instead of the normal VB. How can I accomplish getting the current user's desktop path with inventor VBA?
I just completed a fresh install of PDS on a computer and all seemed to go well but when i pick on any of the desktop icons, the little donut spins for about 1-2 seconds and then...nothing.
Everything was working last week and then AM stopped working but Inventor was okay. I uninstalled and reinstalled only AutoCAD and it didn't work and now neither did Inventor. So i uninstalled all Autodesk stuff and reinstalled all PDS apps and now nothing works.
I work for a large enterprise that has many machines(all the same) that have Inventor 2010 with the 3GB switch enabled. However, when a user tries to remotely connect the machine with the switch enabled, using Windows RDC, they are unable to. After removing the switch, the user is able to remote successfully. Other forums suggested that the "SessionImageSpace" in the registry needed to be edited to allow for the connection, but that did not work for me.

how to bring the layer description with the translation. For example one client uses the names of level 1, level 2 etc. What is on the layer is the description for expamle LEVEL 1 / BORDER. when I translate it oputs the layer name as the description.
I am working with inventor 2014 professional now. But There is a problem. it is ( a: 2d translator not installed and b:sketch export failed ) . dxf drawings of sheet metal environment, particularly these problems started recording format.
