I opened electrical by accident and now all my files default to Electrical rather than Mechanical. How can I change this?
I was certain this was easy, right click a file OPEN WITH, etc browse to proper program...

Layers appear on the “preview” but not on there as the file opens,
In the attached screenshot, a layer is displayed but as the file opens it is not there!
I tried all the very common steps like turning on/thaw/…
And also recovery
And saving it in another file
And other…
But didn’t work
How layers are displayed in the preview while physically they are not there in the drawing as the file opens?
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),

I`ve been trying to create a new drawing template in autocad 2013, I have saved it as a dwt file as suggested . When i go to open the new template the first thing i notice is that the thumb nail has a black ground , while the other templates that came with autocad have a white background !...when i open the dwt file it opens like a normal dwg file in model space not in paper space. the dwt file behaves as just a normal file .

Also, when Photoshop opens I get a window that says, "One or more files in the Adobe Photoshop Support folder, necessary for running Photoshop, are missing. Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."
I cannot re-install, so I need to find what file is missing and copy it from my other Mac.
Currently using 2013. In 2011 or 2012 when Anchoring Right (or Left) a palette Auto-hide has behavior that seems odd to me. If you click Auto-hide on an anchored palette to open it (and presumably keep it open) it detaches from the anchor. And then when you close it you lose the palette on the anchor. To me this wastes time. I'd like to keep that palette open to work a bit and not have to hassle with it by not having it open, but at the same time don't want to waste time later calling it up and anchoring it again. Is this still happening in 2013?

BUT! If I open autocad file by double click - autocad opened. Now I saw my toolbar, saw my message from Initialize!But any commands didn't work. Autocad said that command is unknown. What can be a problem? My be in Autocad version? I have student version and startup message about it.

Working on Autocad 2013 Mechanical. I ALWAYS have the Autodesk 360 SignIn objects on the top bar. I have disabled the Autodesk 360 from the installation list in the network deployment. But this doesn't work. I have also modified the registry and the .ini files but it seems NOTHING works! How can I install AutoCAD in silent mode without getting these objects on the top bar?

View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time I open illustrator and click on the pen icon, open a document, etc etc it crashes. I am using a Mac computer OS X version 10.9. I only have downloaded fonts from dafont.com on this computer. Nothing else has been installed or downloaded. I have tried opening the program while holding CMD/OPT/SHIFT,uninstalling illustrator and redownloading but it still does not work. Below is the error message I get:

I can only save it as AutoCAD LT 2004, is there a way for me to add AutoCAD LT 2008 as an option? If not is there a compatibility pack for him that he can download. There was a slight issue in the transfer. Im not doing anything that uses the mechanical features, just normal autocad features. The option for my computer is better if it is possible.

By double click I want to open a *.TIF image by Photoshop CS2 (for certain reasons). I know how to assign an execution program to a file type in Windows XP. Whatever I do – pointing to the CS2 version – the operating system reverts always to the CS6 version. The same problem for In Design and Illustrator.
I have Windows XP/Pro with SP3. In File Options > File Types I have JPG set to open up in Photoshop CS4; alas, when JPG files are either in Outlook as attachments or on the desktop, nothing happens when I double click them. My workaround is to drag the file icon into CS4, and this only works from the desktop, not from Outlook.

But once Draw is open and minimized and I double click a second file from Explorer or on my desktop, the second file refuses to open in Draw. When I click "Edit Original" with a jpeg selected in the links panel it opens Microsoft Paint! In Windows (7) the file association is Windows Picture Viewer (NOT Paint!) and in Bridge it is associated with Photoshop CC. In InDesign we have the option of choosing which program to edit linked files with. In Illustrator we are stuck with the astounding Paint! Why?? 17 versions and this still bugs me!

Fatal error with some hex memory addresses displayed. DwgTrueview opens and displays the dwg. just fine. AutoCAD R14 & 2000 open the file with no problem as well.

I've been advised to use the IMPORT command but this hasn't worked either, just provides me with the pop up saying only V7 & V8 are supported, see screen shot below.
Do I need to purchase a specific piece of software (plug in) to allow me to open the file?
When opening the a .dwg file in autodesk I am prompted with a message telling me that this DWG file was saved by an application that was not developed or licenced by Autodesk. What would you like to do? I say continue opening the drawing. Next the drawing opens but another message appear Proxy Information.
The drawing you have opened or referenced contain custom objects created by an unavailable Object ARX application. You do not need the original application to display proxy representations of objects that were saved in the drawing. However, many manufacturers including Autodesk, provide object enablers that also allow you to edit these custom objects. Visit the AutoCAD Object Enabler assistant web page to locate Autodesk object enablers or contact the software publisher about object enablers for other applications.
I believe the drawing has come from a Pro E environment. The file has been attached.
I am a contractor that does work for several different companies. When these companies send me their dwg file I have no problem opening them up to edit them, but once I complete my edits and email the file back to them they are telling me that their autocad crashes while trying to open the drawing or the whole computer itself. Most recently I only made a very minor edit to their dwg which was editing two areas of text and still crashes their computer when I send it back. I am using Autocad lt 2013, while they are using autocad 2010. I backsaved the file as well was purged the drawing after I was finished and still no luck. Also I noticed on another job after doing very minor edits, once I saved the new version the file file sized multiplied like ten thousand times its size.
