AutoCAD Inventor :: Assign Layer To Each Type Of Material?
Oct 29, 2012i was wondering if there is anyway to assign a layer to each type of material used so that i can have the material shown in different colors on my drawings?

I can't delete the material (delete greyed out) I try to add another material to the document and I still can't delete the "Generic" material... I added a new material from the drop down box at the top... It says the correct material but when i open the material library dialog again it says "generic" instead of the proper material name that I selected... Is this a bug? See picture.

I know how to assign a line type and color to a part but this gets laborious. It would be far easier if I could apply an electrical layer to all components w/ an electrical property. How to do this?
I'm running 2010 standard.
When assigning materials to a part in inventor the process is simple, however when one wishes to assign a specific steel type ie ASTM A516 as opposed to just a generic steel then this is where it gets a little more complicated.
This specific steel type will also need to be called up in the parts list relevant to the individual part that it is attached to.
I know that a custom material can be added to the favourites section in the materials library, and this can be done if required.
Have i delved deep enough into the inventor materials library , do the basic steel and others materials ie plastics break down into specific types with their elastic properties, yield stresses etc etc in other words a more comprehensive materials library or is this something that must be created by custom material input.
I have a need to send files saved from Inventor.dwg to AutoCAD.dwg to suppliers, however due to the quantity of files "size", I need to purge them in Autocad before I e-mail. The problem I have is that my template Inventor.dwg is 1 mg due to Sketch Symbols, plus added file size for the views etc. When I get to Autocad to purge them, my Sketch Symbols and Title Block is on the "0" Layer. I have to select everything that is on the "0" Layer and change the layer to a different layer to start a LISP routine that does a, Erase All, Purge All, to get my file size down. I have not found a way to change the layer that Sketch Symbols are created on or reside on by default or Title Block either.
Any way to do this Inside the Sketch Symbols, inside the Title Block, using the styles, anything?
I am just now going through a iLogic course and read that Layers can be hidden. Can iLogic be used to change the layer of "SketchSymbols" or "TitleBlocks" and or used to purge all Sketch Symbols during the SaveAs to Autocad.dwg process?
How to assign more than 0-15 material IDs in the old material editor?
I don't use Slate. Does it allow more than 0-15 material IDs?
I am wondering if it is possible to assign a newly created or current material to multiple selected objects? I've searched in the forum and investigate right-mouse menu in Mudbox 2012 but still couldn't find a way to assign a material to multiple objects at once.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI dropped in a bunch of windows from an AutoCAD file into 3DsMax. I'd like to assign material to all of them without individually selecting each window frame, each window sash and each window glass. How would I go about isolating and selecting for instance, all window sashes at the same time or applying the same type of material to a particular type of object?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn mesh edit mode, when you assign a material to the selection, it works as expected, it assigns the material only to what is selected, for example, a face.
In poly edit mode, it works differently, if you try the same approach it assigns the material to the entire object and you have to deal with multi-materials and material IDs to achieve that, what is very boring and totally unintuitive imho.
Is there an option to make the poly editing mode work like the mesh editing mode, or at least another way to achieve the same result in a intuitive or at least 'visual' fashion?
I have a type layer with some text in it (a headline, let's say). I click on the layer, I click on the Character Panel, and first thing I see is the color in the Panel is not the color of the font in the layer.
I then click on any Panel property, and the text in this layer is replaced by text from another layer in my document ( a paragraph layer, let's say), but the color is not the same as the layer the text came from.
I can delete every unused material except one in the Material Editor.I am trying to make the custom Material library and somehowI have got the Material I cannot delete. URL....

I have made changes to one dwg and i now have to apply it to a bazillion more DWG's. But the chnages apply only to a few layers. So i was wondering if i can set the global width to these polylines by layer somehow to save me from doing it "manually"
Is it possible to assign viewports in paper space to a separate layer?
Explanation: I have a paper space with one singular viewport. On the same paper space I added three other viewports that I scaled in but only need for one thing. Can I assign these viewports to a layer and apply them when I need them or do I have to make a seperate paper space for each task.
Having issue with isolating a layer (any layer other than one that contains a hidden line type), and then having the hidden layer appear behind it when attempting to initiate a command?
Attached is an example. The first image shows my drawing with object layer isolated. But as soon as I enter some type of editing command (move, rotate, etc), in this case copy, my hidden layer appears (see second image).
In my LAYISO settings, I have it set to lock and fade, but it does not lock unless I manually set my hidden layer to lock in the layer coAttachment 37450Attachment 37451mmand.
I understand how to change material by family type but how can I change object subcategory by family type? Is this possible?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to take a custom counter I created as a family and have it show a material in my project. It seems that no matter how I apply the material parameter to the family type object, type or instanced, the material does not change in the project when I apply any new material. I have opened up other countertops I have used from the Revit Default Casework Family and I can't seem to find a difference in the setup between mine and Revit. I wanted to use an instanced parameter so I can change the material per room where the object is used.

If i choose a generic wall, and spilt it into layers, and let say the middle layer is going to be insulation, when i click on the material button nothing happens?, I can't load a material, it's a huge problem, and i have tried to repair revit, and uninstall in then reinstall, didn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly (A) that has a subassembly (B) that has a pattern of subassemblies (C's) that consist of many parts (D, E, F, G & H). The parts (DEFGH) are steel and have their own drawings. They do and should look like steel.
They are welded together as an assembly (C). This will be painted bright yellow. I wish to assign a yellow appearance to the subassembly, not affecting the parts. Last, when I open the upper assemblies (A or B), I expect C to have the painted color. I cannot make this work in Inventor 2013.
I can assign appearances to parts DEFGH. No error there. I can NOT assign appearances to assemblies (C). The only thing I see in the Appearance box is "Favourites" and "Inventor Material Library".
I can individuall select and highlight parts DEFGH inside the assembly C and assign an appearance to them. Sort of a work-around, but...
...this is not carried through to upper assemblies (A or B). If I just open them, all items are steel-colored, not yellow. If choose to edit one of the patterned C's inside B, only that instance is colored. None of the others in the pattern.
I must thus expand every instance in the pattern and highlight every part and set an appearance. But this is still not carried through to A. Or any of several other assemblies that also contain B.
Thus, if I want a persistent coloring, I either have to "paint" the individual parts, or I will have to scour up each and every assembly and "paint" every part inside them.
Is there really no way to assign an appearance to an assembly and have it carried through automatically to all assemblies that contain it? Like in every other solid modeler I have ever used?

As the wall wraps do not work on the soffit (only on reveals), I have used a sweep to match the wall plaster thickness to provide a finish.
Is it possible to report the host wall finish material and have it assigned to this sweep automatically ? I have tried to add a finish layer to the host wall in the family - but have not been able to find a way of extracting the material value for this layer.
For the moment I have left it as an Instance property for manual correction - but automated would be great.

I want A1 where A does not change and 1 changes depending on sheet number.
Shortly around the time I signed in to Autodesk 360 I began to have problems with how I interface with the program. I have AutoCAD LT 2013 and, having used the programs for 20 years, I use the AutoCAD LT Classic format for tools and menus. Also due to how I learned CAD in the early 90s and with many abbreviated commands, I use the keyboard extensively.
1. Certain actions using my mouse have stopped working (i.e. Right-click to edit hatch or blocks). Basically a "recent input" menu comes up each time, showing a short history of my commands.
2. When I click on an object, from the top bar I can no longer edit using the pull downs for Layer, Color, Line Type, etc.
3. I can only edit via the Properties menu or through typing in commands. However when I go to change a setting in the Property menu, the boxes with an ellipsis do not respond at all.
I want to change the color, line type, width and layer of all my blocks in my drawing. is there a way to do this with out opening all the blocks for editing? I am using AutoCAD 2009.
