I dropped in a bunch of windows from an AutoCAD file into 3DsMax. I'd like to assign material to all of them without individually selecting each window frame, each window sash and each window glass. How would I go about isolating and selecting for instance, all window sashes at the same time or applying the same type of material to a particular type of object?

When I select the X-Brace elements I want to change the material. all of the HSS8X8 in the whole model get changed too. How do I apply the different materail to the ones that I selected only and not global?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn mesh edit mode, when you assign a material to the selection, it works as expected, it assigns the material only to what is selected, for example, a face.
In poly edit mode, it works differently, if you try the same approach it assigns the material to the entire object and you have to deal with multi-materials and material IDs to achieve that, what is very boring and totally unintuitive imho.
Is there an option to make the poly editing mode work like the mesh editing mode, or at least another way to achieve the same result in a intuitive or at least 'visual' fashion?
I modified a Window Family file by adding a Window inset parameter. When I inserted the window into a wall, otherwise the window worked fine, but when I changed the window's Window Inset value, the frame depth changed instead of the frame's location. The frame was originally made by Sweep tool, but now when I made it by Extrusion tool, the window works fine. Anyway, for future purposes, I would like to know how to be able to use the Window Inset parameter with a frame made by Sweep tool. How do I lock the depth of the frame sweep?

Is there a way to assign just specific vertices to a bone by selecting a separate part of an object? Like for example, I have a model of a gun which I'm trying to rig now and this gun has two barrels, one obove the other, and each of this barrel needs to be assign to a different bone. Those bones are there, but the problem is that certain parts (vertices) of second barrel are assigned as well to the second bone, which is incorrect. How do I select only part (an element) of an object and assign it to the bone?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have problems with material appearance in the frame generator. I have created a new material 316 stainless steel and assigned a specific colour to it. I have now decided to change that colour but it only changes when I change the material in iProperties of the part. I still get the old colour when I use the frame generator to change the material. The only way to change the colour of my material is thru the appearance tab in the frame generator pop up window.

I made a new rows in family table of my custom library, because use various material for beam. (By means Material Guide) Everything is working properly, but not in environment of Frame Generator.
When I insert some beam with first material, everything is OK.
Then I insert the same beam, but with other material, FG respect this my selection, but for mass calculation he use generic material with density 1g/ccm. In Parts List I can see for example stainless steel AISI 304 - it is correct, but mass is incorrect.
I am trying to run a Frame analysis on a beam structure. I wanted a specific yield stress for the components that make up the beam. So I created a new material and changed the yield stress and change my beam components to that new material. However when I run the simulation the yield stress is not what I made it. Is this allowed?

[WARNING] Problems occurred during changing Frame Member(s)
[ERROR] A change could not be completed. The reason for the failure is unknown. Please retry.
The structure that i'm trying to change, was created in IV 2012 SP1, and now I'm editing it in IV 2013.
All the pieces of this project were converted to the new version, and the only big difference from 2012 in this case i think that is the materials library, that I created a new one and set on project as default.
The strange, is that if I enter frame by frame and go to iProperties>Physicals, there i can change the material normally (but with a big wate of time ofc).
I know that the material list you get inside of the frame generator comes from CC, but is there a way to add other types of frame styles to the generator?
What I have is we need to create some Uni strut frames and this material is not in the frame generator and I would like it to be for the functionality that this tool brings.
I get this error message when attempting to change the material in the frame generator.

I want to be able to change the size and material used for the frame and not have to continually change the offset of the piece attached to it. Is there a way to lind the thickness of one bar to the offset of another?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to edit some material properties before rendering. But suddenly, I can no longer open up the Material Edit window. I searched and it said to look where it was last opened. Ok, I did that because I was using it this morning. But then it disappeared for good and I cannot figure out how to re-open it. I've cold booted my computer and restarted AutoCAD but the results are the same. So what am I missing. This copy is AutoCAD 2013 and it has SP1 and SP2 loaded.
UPDATE: OK...something weird happened. I finally found it but it was hidden beneath the other icons which I have anchored on the left. I was only able to get to it by carefully placing my mouse on a piece of it and dragging it out into the model space. So, what gives and how can I avoid this in the future?
I commonly need to select frame generator members to change visibility, etc. but since they are all contained in a single frame I need to do this in the browser. This can be difficult because I need to zoom in on the screen while having the section of the browser visible on screen at the same time. Is there a way that I can individually select each member in the assembly without using the browser?

I created a legend in paperspace with a white background hatch. I want to move all of the text and symbols. When I select everything at the same time, it also grabs the hatch fill underneath. I can't do a window select to grab everything and shift select to subtract out of the hatch underneath.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi am using Acad 2005 for two years. since now i started to use acad 2010. i did find the difference in layer isolation in 2005 if you do layer isolation, only the particular layer visible. then can be select all of them in one window. without disturbing other layers. but in 2010 while i isolate a layer, other layers also visible in the backround. when i select the isolated layer in one window, also the backround layers also getting selected.
i am facing problem in selecting the isolated layer all objects in one window.how to do selection or how to work on that?
is there a way, that objects only inside the selection window or lassoed region get selected rather than objects getting selected which are partially inside the selection window?

When selecting "Import", a new window opens which is a "Copy as DNG" which, during reading all tutorials, is never mentioned. I would like to just import directly from the source card to Macintosh HD. Also, "NO PHOTOS" shows as well.

The picture seen below was created using the arc and polyline tool, autocad won't let me join these lines either!
I like the openness and ability to click my desktop behind the image I'm working on. I know how to turn it off, but how do I KEEP it off? Every time I close and reopen photoshop it's back on, and I saved my workspace to see if that would result in any changes but it didn't. Didn't ever run into this issue on CS6.

Is there any other way to resize it except by grabbing it with the cursor and dragging the edge, since obviously I cannot do that when it sits offscreen?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do a dynamic block of a stretchable window frame. One that isn't a rectangle. It could be stretched from 3 corners to all directions. The fourth corner being the base point.
The frame would consist of 2 "rectangles", with a 20millimeter gap between the lines. The problem is that i haven't figured out any way to to keep the distance between the lines constant as the corners are stretched.
I have tried using variations of Polar and XY-parameters with Strecth-actions with no luck.
