AutoCAD Inventor :: Assign Yellow Appearance To Subassembly But Not Affecting Parts

Aug 3, 2013

I have an assembly (A) that has a subassembly (B) that has a pattern of subassemblies (C's) that consist of many parts (D, E, F, G & H). The parts (DEFGH) are steel and have their own drawings. They do and should look like steel.

They are welded together as an assembly (C). This will be painted bright yellow. I wish to assign a yellow appearance to the subassembly, not affecting the parts. Last, when I open the upper assemblies (A or B), I expect C to have the painted color. I cannot make this work in Inventor 2013.

I can assign appearances to parts DEFGH. No error there. I can NOT assign appearances to assemblies (C). The only thing I see in the Appearance box is "Favourites" and "Inventor Material Library".

I can individuall select and highlight parts DEFGH inside the assembly C and assign an appearance to them. Sort of a work-around, but...

...this is not carried through to upper assemblies (A or B). If I just open them, all items are steel-colored, not yellow. If choose to edit one of the patterned C's inside B, only that instance is colored. None of the others in the pattern.

I must thus expand every instance in the pattern and highlight every part and set an appearance. But this is still not carried through to A. Or any of several other assemblies that also contain B.

Thus, if I want a persistent coloring, I either have to "paint" the individual parts, or I will have to scour up each and every assembly and "paint" every part inside them.

Is there really no way to assign an appearance to an assembly and have it carried through automatically to all assemblies that contain it? Like in every other solid modeler I have ever used?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Push Modified Appearance To Parts In Assembly Where It Is Used

I have just recently upgraded to 2013.I have one color in particular that use dto be grey - now it is red. I have repaired the appearance so it looks correct in a part. I was able to save this backto the library, overwriting the original. This is all good. I am unable to find out how to push this updated appearance to all parts in an assembly. I used to be able to do this with the update styles tool.

I wish to change the colour (how they're displayed) of a few of them.

When i right click on the part, i can select iProperties>Occurrence>Appearance

When i control + select multiple items, then right click, the Appearance tab is greyed out.

Not a huge problem at the moment, but in future, I may wish to make 30 + different parts a different colour and would like to do it in one step.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assembly / Subassembly Files In Parts List

Feb 4, 2013

We have an issue regarding Parts Lists. We currently produce a 'master parts list drawing' for the jobs we produce. This drawing has 2 rolled up parts list on it -

1 - purchased parts - so buying can order all the required parts in one go.

2 - manufactured parts - so production know which and how many parts to make.

Both of these can be setup in Inventor (using filters) so they display only the correct parts from the BOM. However, neither of these show assembly / subassembly files (and consequently drawings). Is there any way of creating a parts list that can show assembly files only?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Use Sheet Metal Style / Material Appearance In A Parts List

Mar 29, 2013

We use different types of sheet metals, from stainless to bronze, and different thicknesses.

Currently, in order to show the correct material on a parts list, I have to duplicate the material Stainless Steel, and rename it to say 20 Gauge Stainless Steel. Then again for 16 Ga, 14Ga, 12 Ga, etc...

I'd like to have the parts list show the common material such as "Stainless Steel", with another column for the sheet metal style such as "20 Gauge."

We also use items such as Plastic Laminate. I'd like to create a generic material for the physical properties of "Plastic Laminate", and then change the material appearance to say "Formica #1234 Walnut". Again, i'd like to be able to put this in (2) columns on the parts list.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Reference Parts In A Subassembly / Unable To Create Balloon And Drawing

Jun 14, 2013

I have assemblies that are comprised of reference parts - the assembly is a purchased part such as an air cylinder.  I have them as reference only in the assembly (ie right click on the parts in the model tree->BOM Reference->Reference). I do it this way so I can adjust the air cylinder how I need it, but still only asign one part number to the whole assembly - as an example we'll say "cylinderX" is the part number, and filename is "cylinderX.iam"

The problem arises when I put cylinderX.iam into other assemblies and try and make drawings of those assemblies.  Even though cylinderX.iam is not a reference part (but all it's sub components are), it shows up in an IDW just like reference parts.  I am able to make it show up how I want by editing the view properties (Edit View->Model State Tab->Reference Data Line Style "as parts"), but I still cannot balloon cylinderX.iam.  It shows up in the parts list, but I cannot attach a balloon to it.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assign Subassembly To Certain Station Range?

Jul 10, 2012

I have a sidewalk project with 5' wide sidewalk and the edge of sidewalk is 5' of the back of curb.  All is fine and well, I have link slope to surface subassembly assigned to one side and a link offset and slope subassembly to the other side of the sidewalk.  Everything daylights nicely.

Here is the issue......my link slope to surface subassembly is an 8:1 slope to tie into the existing surface model.  There is one stretch of sidewalk where I have a retaining wall behind the sidewalk for about 15'.  My section views are every 10' and in one of them the wall needs to show up.  I could use the link vertcial sub assembly in this area but I am not sure how to use a specific subassembly in one area.  Do I split that region up in my corridor, create a new region to use that references a new assembly to use in that 15' strectch which would contain the link vertical subassembly?  Or, do I create the link vertcial  subassembly in my current assembly and assign a station range to it so it doesn't show up throughout the entire corridor?  It's like I wante to transition in and back out of a subassembly.  Incidentally, I have one assembly used for the entire length of my project.

Revit :: How To Assign Desired Scale Of Plan On One Sheet Without Affecting The Scale On Other Sheets

Is there a way to assign the desired scale of the plan on one sheet without affecting the scale on the other sheets and on the original drawing view?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Copy Subassembly To Create Similar But Different Subassembly

Sep 27, 2013

(in Inventor Pro 2014,64 bit):

I've made an stairs assembly that contains adaptive parts that are all controlled by the assembly parameters.

Here is my assembly and the controlling parameters. The stringers on the side are made with the frame generator and use the "extend" feature to get the appropriate length, as driven by the parameters. The reason I used frame generator is so that I can easily change sizes of the stringers down the road, if needed.  I chose to make the parts associative so I could control all of the parameters from within the assembly instead of opening each part separately.

My goal now is to be able to use this assembly (or something similar) as a template to create new sets of stairs, all to be placed in the same main assembly.

I attempted to duplicate all of the parts (append a "2" at the end of each file name and replace components in the new set of stairs with the 2nd version) but ran into problems with the two stringers. I can't figure out what to do to get the Frame00001 and Skeleton00001 to reassociate to Frame00002 and Skeleton00002. So any time I change my slope, the original stairs will end up trying to copy the new stringers instead of keeping the old ones.

how can I make this assembly reference a new frame, and secondly?

GIMP :: Darken Areas Without Affecting Any Other Parts Of Image

All I want to do is to darken these areas without affecting any of the other parts of the image. Is this possible at all?

What would be ideal would be if there was a tool, plug-in or method where I could select a certain colour range or brightness threshold that I could then lower however much I want without affecting the already dark areas.

AutoCAD Inventor :: VBA Printer Options Not Affecting Print

Apr 2, 2013

When set it to use 11x17 paper it will print 8.5x11 which is the default size for the printer. So if I change the printer options to default to 11x17 it will print with 11x17. Changing the color between color, greyscale, and blackandwhite don't affect the prints either.

Also is there a way to detect the default printer since I noticed when I "printed" a pdf manually and then tried this script it used the pdf printer and not the default printer, which I would always want to use.

Public Sub Single_Print_11x17() Dim oPrintMgr As PrintManager Set oPrintMgr = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.PrintManager If MsgBox("Using default printer """ & oPrintMgr.printer & """ with 11x17 paper. Do you want to continue?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion) = vbNo Then Exit Sub Print_doc printer:=oPrintMgr.printer, paper:=kPaperSize11x17, black_white:=TrueEnd Sub

If you notice that i'm not using two of the arguements in the function that are passed, that's because they don't appear to affect anything so I just left some of it hard coded. When/if I can get the different options working I'll start using the arguements more since I have plans.

Function Print_doc(ByVal printer As String, ByVal paper As String, ByVal black_white As Boolean) If ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.DocumentType <> kDrawingDocumentObject Then Exit Function Dim oDrgDoc As DrawingDocument Set oDrgDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument Dim oDrgPrintMgr As DrawingPrintManager Set oDrgPrintMgr = oDrgDoc.PrintManager 'choose printer works oDrgPrintMgr.printer = printer 'choose sheets works oDrgPrintMgr.PrintRange = kPrintAllSheets 'choose size doesn't work oDrgPrintMgr.PaperSize = kPaperSize11x17 'choose scale works oDrgPrintMgr.ScaleMode = kPrintBestFitScale 'color/black & white don't work oDrgPrintMgr.ColorMode = kPrintGrayScale oDrgPrintMgr.AllColorsAsBlack = black_white oDrgPrintMgr.SubmitPrintEnd Function

I'd love to get all these options working since I want to be able to select size and color options when using my print scripts.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Showing Two Instances Of Parts List And Adding Custom Parts

Mar 30, 2012

On the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List.  Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list.  On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.

On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3.  Two of those Three are optional parts.  What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.

I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing.  Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone.  I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description.  I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).

Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible.  Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Parts With Work Planes Defined By Other Parts

May 2, 2013

I am working on an assembly that is designed around a box (bounding box) that could change size.  I modeled the bounding box and placed it in a new assembly file.  All other parts have been created within the assembly by referencing that bounding box with starting work plane and project geometry.

The problem comes in when I change the bounding box dimensions.  The work planes for each additional part, which were defined by the faces of the bounding box, do not move when the sides move.  Also, my projected geometry is not updating correctly.  This is a simple box, with all 90° corners.  So, all associated parts (at this point) are just rectangles.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Virtual Parts Weight Total BOM And Parts List

Aug 7, 2013

I was using virtual parts to add nuts and bolts to a drawing in 2013

I can make a VP bolt in the assembly, no problem, set it's size, weight, etc.

In the VP itself, there is no option for number of bolts I want it to emulate. For arguement's sake the weight was 1 pound per bolt (they are big bolts).

I can go into the BOM and say quantity 60, hit done and save the assembly.

If i open the drawing, the parts lists shows 60lbs for the 60 bolts total - which it should when summing the weight.

The problem is the BOM/assembly. If the weight of my assembly (without bolts) is 10,000lbs, the assembly sees the VP weighing 1lb and says the total weight is 10,001 lbs. Am i going to have to pattern a fake part to get this to work right? Shouldn't the total weight take into account the quantity set in the Bom??

Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing?  I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.

For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3.  "Worry when there's something to worry about."

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assemblies Showing In Parts Only Parts List

So now the problem, In this assembly, I have subassemblies showing up on my parts only parts list.

One of the subassemblies cinsists of two purchased parts. Both parts are set to purchased in the Bill of materials. If I do a parts only list on this assembly, it works as expected, showing two purchased parts. However, if I put that assembly into a higher level assembly, A parts only parts list shows the assembly instead of the individual parts.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Yellow Surface Edges

May 17, 2013

We just upgraded Inventor from 2013 to 2014.

I opened a model generated in previous releases and noticed that there were parts with a strange yellow highlight.

Turns out the parts aren't explicitly highlighted, it's just that their edges are yellow. See the screenshot below.

I usually work in the 'Shaded with Edges' view style. I found that if the view style is changed to 'Shaded' or 'Realistic', the yellow disappears with the edges.

The only parts the yellow edges seem to affect are ones generated as surfaces. I would like to know how to turn the yellow off is possible. So far I've tried changing the part appearance in the toolbar and changing the surface body properties in the model tree; neither method worked.

Now I don't model in surfaces, but there have been purchased parts imported into Inventor that have in the past ended up as surfaces, and it's these parts that have the highlight. I haven't noticed anything like this in previous releases.
