I've got the basics down, made a couple of basic parts and a simple assembly but having a bit of an issue with constraining a part at 2 ends.
basically, i've got a simple wheel with a piston attached, think steam engine drive wheel. Ive produced a frame to attached it all too and can position the wheel to the frame and piston to the wheel and the cylinder to the piston but when i try to constrain the other end of the cylinder to the frame it all seems to go wrong and things start jumping all over the layout.

Is there a way for forcing a flat pattern, when unfolded, to a specific length?

After having a formed sheet metal part finish the wrong size (.100" long on all sides), I discovered a glitch with the sheet metal flat patterns sizes being.
I created two identical parts, one in IV2013 and one in IVP2014, and came up with two different flat patterns. The two parts are 100% identical. The volume is identical for both, and I did an assembly overlay to double check (everything lined up perfect). However, the flat pattern on the IV2014 part was 0.130" shy of what it should be (total length in both directions).
I haven't been able to recreate this (happened with this part and with a different part that we had formed), but you shouldn't ever have to worry about something like this. I created the same part in 2014 for a second time from scratch and it then came out to the correct dimensions, which worries me even more that this is an intermittent problem.
The JUNK file is the one with the incorrect length.
Also, another IVP2014 issue I have been having is when saving a drawing as an AutoCAD drawing it saves it as a 2013 AutoCAD in a zip file instead of a 2007 as a normal file like I have it set up to. If I click "Options" when saving, then click cancel without selecting anything, it saves it correctly.

I'm wondering if there is a function in AutoCAD to 'press' (crush, flatten, pinch, crimp not sure the exact or correct term to be applied) the end of a steel tube? I've attached an image of a real piece of equipment where the tube is pressed at the end with a swivelling pin. Tube is 50mm outer diameter with a 3mm wall thickness.

I'm trying to write a VB.Net program (Visual Studio 2010 Express) for Inventor 2012 that will add up the length of all the edges of a flat pattern including any cutouts/holes in the part. I need the total length to do an estimate on the amount of time required to cut out the pattern on a laser. How to get this info programatically in VB?

How I have come to this question is through the process of trying to realistically show a hydrant in profile view. First off it it possible to create a completely vertical pipe in C3D? Also if you can, is it possible to show that in profile view? Basically, what I am trying to avoid is representing a fire hydrant pipe by creating some sort of custom cyclinder part in partbuilder. I have done this, but do not like the results.

Reducing the Roundness of a calligraphic brush to 0% seems to create 'flat' ends to a stroke, but, on closer inspection, the ends are not perfectly flat/straight.
The line seems to start and end with a slight 'S' curve; it's less visible when the stroke has a different bearing, but I need it to be gone - is this possible? I'm trying to create a calligraphic brush with perfectly flat ends.

I noticed when you put in vertical parabolic curves onto the profile tangents it will ask you if you want length or k.
however depend on which one you specify. it will hold on to that value when it comes to changing the tangent locations. for what i am doing now i want k by default. but accidentally i put in length because i just went through all the pi's quickly to put in the curves. but i see no control which allows you to control which type to hold. this is a property inside the vertical curve but it's not exposed to user. once you create by length that's it. until you delete the curve and re enter using k then it will hold k.

Inventor 2013.
I want to make a contour roll and use the developed length option. How do I accomplish this.
The only way I can get this option to be available (not greyed out) is to have a closed loop sketch, if I have only a single line line sketch this option is not available.

I am using the design accelerator to create a shaft with multiple features. Works well. This shaft is 90"+ in length and although I realize we create in full scale, having it display into my drawing in full scale is unnecessary because one diameter is nearly 60" long. As such I would like to shorten it by using a shaft end, but cannot figure how to do it.
Just to be clear, by shaft end (term used in Mechanical) I refer to the squiggly lines that basically fudge the OAL of a component.

I recently bought Photoshop 12, having previously had Photoshop 9. With Photoshop 9 I could resize a photograph to 60mm by 40mm (say) and insert it into a text in Windows 7 at exactly that size and textwrap it. When I try to do this using Photoshop 12, the image fills the A4 page, even though it confirms that the resized photograph is 60mm by 40mm. What am I doing wrong?

Basically a 2.5" id tube with a .06 wall thickness - 16ga exhaust tubing. Once I finaly got the drawing right, I cannot rip the part. The part has both ends cut. If one of the ends is left un cut I can create a sketch and put a point where I want to rip, and successully rip the part. If both ends has a cut end has a cut, there is a RIP error. How to overcome this headache? I am trying to make a template which If i can rip the part, I will be able to do so.

I am trying to export geometry found in a flat pattern sketch overlaid onto the flat pattern.
Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.
When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly. What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?

I have been trying to unfold round tubing made through the frame generator. Here are the steps I took:
1. Used Frame Generator
* both ends of the tube are notched
2. Opened part and converted into sheet metal
3. Used the following tutorial: URL...
4. Was not working so I drew sketches on both ends of the notched tubing and added points
5. Used rip tool (point to point) and did not work
* I made sure the thickness was the same
I thought I was doing something wrong so I generated a new round tubing frame with only 1 end notched and the other end flat and followed the tutorial. IT WORKED! I have came to the conclusion that you can not use the rip tool on tubing that has both ends notched. Is there a way where I can cut the tubing in half so I have 2 individual pieces/files of tubing with 1 end flat and 1 end notched?

I haven't work in 3d in some time and never worked with dxf files, so I'm not even sure this is possible. I tried opening the dxf in auto cad, but it doesn't seem to find the file..I cant see dxf extensions.
