AutoCAD Map 3D :: Stylize SHP File Lines So That They Have Flat Ends
Mar 29, 2012I am trying to stylize my .shp file lines so that they have flat ends.

View 2 RepliesI'm wondering if there is a function in AutoCAD to 'press' (crush, flatten, pinch, crimp not sure the exact or correct term to be applied) the end of a steel tube? I've attached an image of a real piece of equipment where the tube is pressed at the end with a swivelling pin. Tube is 50mm outer diameter with a 3mm wall thickness.

Reducing the Roundness of a calligraphic brush to 0% seems to create 'flat' ends to a stroke, but, on closer inspection, the ends are not perfectly flat/straight.
The line seems to start and end with a slight 'S' curve; it's less visible when the stroke has a different bearing, but I need it to be gone - is this possible? I'm trying to create a calligraphic brush with perfectly flat ends.
I use splines a lot to provide a contiuous smooth curve between two lines which are co-planar. The splines are drawn by connecting the ends of the two lines and then the tangent direction set by hovering over the end grips. I then use the FLATEN command to convert these splines to polylines that can have their lineweights set to a value other than 0. My problem is that sometimes when i use the FLATTEN command, the spline is erased.

Basically, instead of being one continuous line, their endpoints intersect and overlap, making it look very messy. Is there anyway I could delete these extra lines? I tried the overkill command to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Illustrator CS5 - I've been trying to figure out a way to slant the ends of the lines all at once, or to create them to begin with. I've searched for a method to do this until my eyes gave out (including youtube how to's). What I've been doing is creating the lines, drawing guides, expanding the lines, then dragging each endcap anchor point to intersect with the guide and this is taking a bit longer than I would like. Is there a quicker way to get the lines in the top image to look like those in the bottom image? specifically the slant on the endcaps?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to match the style of an illustration done by someone outside my company; all the lines taper at both the ends like an actual brush stroke, but when I used the brush tools I have to change the angle to get the tapered look - is there a trick to this? It's not efficient to have to stop and change the angle of the tool for every stroke -
View 7 Replies View Relatedi have just got into image editing (got photoshop 8 cs last week) and i have been learning from tutorials. the first image i did used the wind effect to make the text look like ice. and i want to use it again. the first time i made the ice text it all went fine, but when i want to use it again it wont work. when i click wind, instead ofthe wind effect coming OUT FROM the text, It goes INTO the text, like its inverted or something.
one other thing, i saw in the flash movie of photoshop that you can change colours of different things, eg, cpply the texture of a chicken onto a fox, or turn a black woman into a white woman.
I have been trying to do the flame letter effect but when I open a new document and type the text, then go to Filter>Stylize---

A colleague and I are working on a large assembly together, and we have received several .stp files from a customer (originally created in ProE), many of which are sheet metal that need to be unfolded and flat patterns made in drawings. The sheet metal default thickness has been changed to what the material thickness is. We have measured the edges on each side of and the radii of the bends, and they all appear to be consistently uniform. Yet, we get an error when trying to unfold or flatten the outer two bends. The customer sent us a flat pattern .stp file as well after letting them know we could not unfold the part, and there are many dimensions that we have to manually inserted to the drawing with the flat file because it does not have the bend information in it.
Is there something that we are missing to make this part unfold all the way?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dxf file of a 3d model (cant attach as it exceeds the size limit) that I need to have put in a 2D dwg file. basically I need to flatten it to make a top and front view of the model.
I haven't work in 3d in some time and never worked with dxf files, so I'm not even sure this is possible. I tried opening the dxf in auto cad, but it doesn't seem to find the file..I cant see dxf extensions.
When I go under the Filter menu, I can only do a few of the options. Blur, Noise, Sharpen, Stylize, and other. I can't do Distort, Texture, or any other ones for some reason. I have tried closing it completely and opening up random projects where I know I've used the filter, and still nothing. I've tried everything outside of uninstalling it then re-installing it, and I really don't want to do that.
way to restore the factory defaults or...something?
This is the second time I have reinstalled AI CS6 as last resort. It will freeze up Illustrator every time that I apply an effect like a drop-shadow, etc. 2011 MacBook Pro i7 on OS X Mountain LionCreative Cloud CS6Other tools work fineI have a couple plug-ins from Astute Graphics - however, I had the problems occur previous to the plug-ins.. I have tried restarting, using only AI and no other programs, etc.. When I reinstalled last time the probelm went away for about 4 weeks.

Edit: Never mind. I was looking under the Photoshop Effects section instead of the Illustrator Effects section.
I want to create a hole approx 586x586mm. But every time i try inventor respond with "The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result" If i do a slightly smaller hole it will work, but that is not what i want...

I created an iLogic rule that allows in a sheet metal part to the informations Length, widht and area of a flat pattern. This rule run and the iproerties are created (see attachment file).
Now, I will run this rule from an assembly file to create automatically, in all sheet metal components, theses iproperties.
Is it possible ? what must I change in this rule ?
Where I work we do a lot of plate and punch holes in beams for rebar. Is there a way to pull the flat patteren layout of sheet metal and convert to an NC1 file. I can export to a DXF but then i must manually go in and make changes to the DXF in order for it to cut right on our plasma and laser tables. As far as punching holes and cutting beams any clues on this either? We were outsourcing our drafting work before but now we are switching over to in house. I have contacted our supplier of plate nesting software and it looks like they sell something but that means another license of it on another computer.

I am trying to export geometry found in a flat pattern sketch overlaid onto the flat pattern.
Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.
When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly. What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?
I have just made a new linetype but the ends look funny...I can't see why the ends, before and after the slash are different lengths? How to make them more even?
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor printing or mailing purpose, i used to re-open big .psb layer files (2-6GB) in cs5 and cs6 with keybombo "alt" and "shift" while double clicking the document in the finder window (10.6 + 10.7.5), in order to save time.
This is not possible anymore, everytime i open a document this way its white and empty in photoshop.
I am using the design accelerator to create a shaft with multiple features. Works well. This shaft is 90"+ in length and although I realize we create in full scale, having it display into my drawing in full scale is unnecessary because one diameter is nearly 60" long. As such I would like to shorten it by using a shaft end, but cannot figure how to do it.
Just to be clear, by shaft end (term used in Mechanical) I refer to the squiggly lines that basically fudge the OAL of a component.
I am now using AutoCAD 2007 and I am a new AutoCAD user. How can I draw a vector or a line with one or two arrow ends in AutoCAD ? It is really simple to do that in MS Word

How to do this so they do not disappear?
