AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Vertical Curves Hold K / Length
Oct 15, 2012
I noticed when you put in vertical parabolic curves onto the profile tangents it will ask you if you want length or k.
however depend on which one you specify. it will hold on to that value when it comes to changing the tangent locations. for what i am doing now i want k by default. but accidentally i put in length because i just went through all the pi's quickly to put in the curves. but i see no control which allows you to control which type to hold. this is a property inside the vertical curve but it's not exposed to user. once you create by length that's it. until you delete the curve and re enter using k then it will hold k.
I am creating a block for my details. I want to be able to title my block and the the line under my txt will change it's length based on the lenght of the text. I keep playing with the constraints, but I haven't found one that is doing what I want.
I have an alingment and profile, but I cannot use the layout tool to create a curve (vertical)...what I am doing wrong. I select the profile in profile view and right click to select "edit profile geometry" and get the layout tool bar but cannot select to draw a curve...
I have a profile that has a 25' VC (please see attached jpeg) and want to put my PVI Station and Elevation but it doesnt fit in 40 scale (I need it to be in 40 scale). Is there a way I can only change the style for small vertical curves without changing my other styles?
Can we automatically add sample lines at vertical curve points (e.g. BC, EC, Bottom of curve) ?I need to show the sections at these vertical curve key points.
I am using C3D 2011 but could not find that option when creating sample lines in a station range.
How to sort curve table data by parcel and then curve length? Out here in Oregon, one of the standard ways of defining a curve table is to show the length of curve and have each curve in the parcel grouped together.
I have not figured out a way to do this in C3D. At one point, Sinc had started working on the issue for us, but I don't think he ever got anywhere with it (or at least it didn't get into his add on.
i have an issue in with my created sheets that does not show vertical alignment data. everything on the bands shows up nicely but the lines, curves and labels profile are missin.
see the attached image. you can notice from the image that there is no a signle data..
With using superelevation wizard in Civil 3d 2012, changing the lane width is not affecting the resulted values of transion length and run-off length, Is that correct ? ( as civil is using standerd AASHTO tables which assume that lane width typically is 3.6m )
Also, There is only 2 tables for 2-lanes and 4-lanes roadway, Is it for total road width or for one directon only, and what about different no. of lanes ?
what is the trick for holding triangulation within a surface boundary? I recall a setting somewhere but can't seem to find it... attached graphic, would like to hold the surface triangulation within the arcs which are in the surface definition as boundary
What setting controls the rotation of leader tails? Specifically in point labels. My dragged point labels maintain their orientation, as I want, with Plan Readability set to False and Dragged State Components - Display set to As composed. But the leader tails are horizontal to the view rotation.

how do I make straight lines? Horizontal Lines? Vertical Lines? Curvs? I read many tutorials and i am afraid that I am doing it the wrong way, my way is to drag a guide to where i want the line to be at and trace the guide with the brush tool...
Im using Civil 3d 2012 and I couldn't find the function that I could offset the smooth curve alignment as shown on the attached pdf. I've looked through the offset alignments but those linear, curve-cube-reverse curve, curve-line curve doesn't work much.
I have alignment with 2 curves at the beginning and end that I want to keep. It has a few PIs in between ke that are not supposed to have curves, but Civil 3D added them in (very short 200 ft radius curves), but I need to take all but the first and last curves out.
I tried setting Constraint Editing - toggled OFF lock all parameter constraints. Then I went into the data and tried to change the parameter. Can't get the curve out. Is there a way to convert a PI from one with a curve to one without a curve?
I can't afford to redraw this alignment - it's being referenced via Data Shortcuts to multiple drawings being used by me and my designer / already has my design profiles and existing profiles attached to it.
How to do this? - Delete the curves and make them PIs only? (without curves).

When I create a line label, one of the components available is “Direction Arrow”. This component is not available for “Curve” labels. I would really like to use C3D labels to indicate direction (I realize curves don't have a 'direction', but I don’t mind manually flipping and reversing the arrow). Is there any other label option in C3D that will draw a direction arrow for curves?
I'm working on a runway in Civil 3D 2011. I want to transition cross slopes along the runway. i.e. 1.5% for sta 1+00 to 10+00 and then transition into 1.0%. I thought super elevation would be the best way to do this (I dont want any actual super elevation, just transitions in cross slope). When I select the alignment and "Calculate/Edit Superelevation" i get the following message in the commanding line:
"_AeccCalcEditSuperelevation No superelevation data has been calculated for the selected reference alignment." It does not bring up the wizard.
My runway alignment doesn't have any curves and I'm thinking that's the problem. Is is possible to create super elevation without curves?
I am used to drafting surveys using Eagle Point Coordinate Geometry & Boundary Survey & I am now moving over to C3D, & I am trying to reproduce a boundary survey in C3D 2010, when it comes to Tangent & Non Tangent curves there does not appear to be any routine that allows you to create them in logical sequence or otherwise from the geometrical info provided on paper maps i.e. Radius, Delta Angle & Length, are there any survey techs on here that have been able to resolve this issue?
I have a file saved in autocad 2013 (dwg file extension) that contains level curves and points similar that an autocad civil 3d file and also have the layers. I want to convert this file to a civil 3d file for doing section of the curves whit the program. I don't know if it exist a method or not directly or indirectly.
When i try to Add a Alignment Table for curves , and everry time i select the aligment or it's lable , it tells me that no Item Found, now what exactly i'm supposed to select ?

I haven't used Autodesk directly since Land Development 2i. I remeber being able to draw lines by distances and bearings with the numeric keypad. The bearing quadrant / DMS input was a fast way to draw parcels from an existing map. When I got to a curve, I remember being able to input radius and Delta angle. I've been trying to find those functions for months now. I found the Line by Bearing command and that works well as long as I don't run into a curve.
How do you draw a curve that's tangent to the previous line with the radius and delta angle? I've been going back to AutoCAD version 12 methods. That is, offset the previous line. draw a circle from the end of the offset. draw a line between the center of the curve and the end of the previous line. Rotate that line with the 12d34'56" format. trim the curve and erase the extra lines.
I've gone through all the curve drawing options in the home menu.I found the CoGo editor in the survey menu but it doesn't draw curves. It just draws a line from the beginning of the curve to the center and continues the traverse from the radius point of the curve. That's obviously either a serious misunderstanding of input or a program bug.
I need to reproduce an alignment shown on some plans. I have not had any luck finding a tutorial about how to re-create an existing alignment.
I have a page of plans, it shows the center line going from a back tangent, into a spiral, through a curve, and spiral to tangent. How do I create an alignment from this data?
I am a surveyor and I'm having a hard time understanding the alignment creation tools, in my data collector it is much simpler, you enter the back tangent and the end radius and the length of spiral and whale, but I'm trying to build a corridor, so I can stake the dtm.
I created a horizontal alignment from objects and upon importing it c3d seems to have taken liberty to arrange the lines in order it sees fit. Is there a way to rearrange the alignment tangent and curves and change their direction?

I want to create a 3d ployline from a 2d polyline with curves. When I use the convert 2d polyline to 3d polyline command it places a bunch of vertices along the curve so when I go to place elevations on the vertices it takes too long. I want to be able to give an elevation at the pc and pt and have it place elevations along the curve from this info like it does on the stright lines.
Althout I have created the widening on my aliment and used a designer critery on my corridor, I can't achieve that the corridor use the widenig on the curves.
I need that the corridor generate the widening on the curves, I can't stake the corridor without widening.
I have Lidar LAS files in UTM18 and need them in State Plane. Horizontally they come in fine to a drawing with the correct system set. Vertically they are still in Meters. I know a couple of workarounds. But I'm just wondering if there have been any advances in 2014.
We're still on 2012 but I'm testing 2014 I don't want to go through the whole process again if it's not going to work.

I am having a lot of problems with my vertical curve labels. I created a style that shows the length of the vertical curve, the k-value, the end and start elevations, and the elevation and station of the PVI, as shown. My problems are the fact that when I want to flip a label, they all flip (shown in the second picture). I also have noticed that there is only one drag point. Is this a setting that I unknowingly edited, or is it possible to flip labels individually?
