I am using Civil3D 2012 SP 2.
I am creating a block for my details. I want to be able to title my block and the the line under my txt will change it's length based on the lenght of the text. I keep playing with the constraints, but I haven't found one that is doing what I want.

I noticed when you put in vertical parabolic curves onto the profile tangents it will ask you if you want length or k.
however depend on which one you specify. it will hold on to that value when it comes to changing the tangent locations. for what i am doing now i want k by default. but accidentally i put in length because i just went through all the pi's quickly to put in the curves. but i see no control which allows you to control which type to hold. this is a property inside the vertical curve but it's not exposed to user. once you create by length that's it. until you delete the curve and re enter using k then it will hold k.
I have surface style (could be slope or spot elevation) with a 2 line component, and text component above and below the line. I'm trying to create on style for many options. I'm using c3d 2013, but moving to 2014.
I would like to do the following after placing the label:
1. adjust the length of the line component. (ex: as I rotate the lable, the length of seg 1 changes )
2. turn off one of the line component
3. adjust the angle of one of the line component.
4. when drag, the length of the line changes to a new value.
and while I'm asking, is there a way to move/rotate/drag the syle to a percise distance. I want the leader to be 1 unit long at 30 degree angle.
I use 3D sketching frequently as a means to generate frames with the frame generator.
I notice that the constrain group no longer contains an equal length tool, as in a simple 2D sketch. This is where i would generally select two lines, and constrain them to be equal in length.
Is there a reason for this omission? Should I be worried that my menus are not showing the full options for constraints?
My boss gave me a copy of Autocad 2012. I've messed around with architecture 2010 before so the ribbons are no surprise. One thing I have noticed that's really different is the dynamic block constraints & block table actionblock properties table? I looks very similar to the lookup property table

I'd like to make the line a MINIMUM length of X" (I haven't decided how long yet--but know I'll need a minimum). But then after the user fills in the attribute, I'd like the length of the line to change to the length of the attribute plus a small amount (again, I haven't decided yet how much extra).
I was wondering if there is a way with DB's to have a line "follow" or "grow" with the content/value length of an attribute. Maybe some method of linking the attribute width to length of the line? Essentially, it would work just like turning on the underline setting when typing in mtext editor (or any program with an underline option for that matter), expect that the line could be placed anywhere, and would not have to reside directly below the text.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I'm creating a block with a block table and constraints. The constraints such as Geometric Constraints work just as assumed. When adding in dimensional constraints we start to have more fun. So I have dimensional constraints that use other dimensional constraints to manipulate itself.
EX. dimconC = (dimconB-dimconA)
dimconA is 12
dimconB is 14
dimconC would be 2
Now when ever dimconA or dimconB change dimconC would populate accordingly.
With this I wanted to make an attribute that could be placed in instead of a dimensional constant.
EX dimconC = ((Att1*dimconB)-dimconA)
Att1 is 02
dimconA is 12
dimconB is 14
dimconC would be 16
However when trying to place in formula that references a attribute I keep getting an error "A DEPENDENT EXPRESSION CANNOT BE EVALUATED" So I assumed it was missing an expression from the attribute, however once entering an expression in for it I still get the same error.

Is this something that is not allowed at all or have I over looked something?
I made an alignment of road, inserted with sample line, then i made a profile. But on the sample line on profile, there is not a data of height and lenght of profile. How to get those data in road profile. I can manually draw that, but i think there is an easier way?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith using superelevation wizard in Civil 3d 2012, changing the lane width is not affecting the resulted values of transion length and run-off length, Is that correct ? ( as civil is using standerd AASHTO tables which assume that lane width typically is 3.6m )
Also, There is only 2 tables for 2-lanes and 4-lanes roadway, Is it for total road width or for one directon only, and what about different no. of lanes ?
in 2012 I saved a layerstate and it shows in the dialog but if I change the stet to another and go back none of the settings are held.

The attached image shows a block of a speed ramp. I have a linear parameter in the middle of the block to stretch the block. When I stretch the block I want the triangles to be evenly spaced. I have setup constraints as shown. They are all linked back to d6 but d6 is locked. How do I unlock it so that it changes and the dims update?

what is the trick for holding triangulation within a surface boundary? I recall a setting somewhere but can't seem to find it... attached graphic, would like to hold the surface triangulation within the arcs which are in the surface definition as boundary

My dragged point labels maintain their orientation, as I want, with Plan Readability set to False and Dragged State Components - Display set to As composed. But the leader tails are horizontal to the view rotation.

I have been practicing using a older book(copyright 1990) and it has some decent exercises in it. I was able to do this one but it seems I can"t find the proper way to do this..First drawing a line a certain distance..ortho on,click the first point anywhere,move curser to the left and click again. that gives me a line at 180 degrees at what ever length..Line command again starting at the second point of the first line..after clicking that point,I type in @2.38<150 that gives me a line2.38 long at 150 degrees..now how do i make a third line relative to the second line so that the angle is 75 degrees and a certain length..the picture shows what I am trying to draw..using the polar cordinates you get an angle based off the UCS( which is set at world) when you try to draw the third line ..that makes the angle between line 2 an 3 not the angle that I want..To make the drawing,I rotated the ucs -30 degrees..But there has to be a better way than that..
View 9 Replies View Related is there a way to make a dynamic block that adapt when using with constrait...i want the block, wich will be a panel with different visibility, to adapt between 2 geometry using coincidence or colinar constraints
so when i change the parameter of the distance between the 2 geometry , the block length will ajust accordingly i'm not new to the dynamic block but to using parameters with it, never done that.
I'm testing out a simple Block Table in the Dynamic Block editor and when I go to save the Block, the following alert pops up. Is there a way to "test" the Block to check all the necessary constraints? Or am I just suppose to go about this with good 'ol fashioned trial and error? Seems the block is working just fine so is the alert just a moot point?

Is there a way to add a hatch to a block definition without losing the constraint points ? Once I redefine a block with a hatch I lose the ability to use any parametric constraints with the block. interestingly, the block reference already in use don't lose their parametric constraints.

I am trying to create a dynamic block that represents a cable with an attribute attached. The block is essentially a line that runs along the Y axis. I have created a distance parameter with a stretch action attached. The line is to remain anchored at the top and the bottom end is permitted to stretch.
Problem: I have an attribute inserted to the left side of the line (offset at -2mm TC insertion) at a rotation angle of 270. When I select the stretch grip (in the drawing environment) I would like the attribute to remain centered with the line maintain the offset and maintaining the rotation angle. I have exhausted all of my options (limited experience).
I'm using the line tool in a 2d sketch. First, I draw a polygon with the tool. Then, when I come to move one of the lines with the mouse cursor, it detaches from the other lines, and becomes a single floating line on its own.
As far as I can tell, it has nothing to do with the fly down constraint menu options, but i may have changed another option elsewhere in inventor and not have realised it.
I have two dynamic blocks. One is the plan view of a cylinder and one is the elevation view of a cylinder. When I change the parameter of the OD on the elevation, I want the plan view to change. I'd like to keep them as blocks (they're a little more complicated than just cylinders), but when I try to use parametrics to tie these two dimensions together I get: "Constraints cannot be applied between nested objects in the same block or Xref."

I need to drive more than one constraint at a time. The assembly consist of a hydraulic ram that pulls a cable which is routed around a few pullys and then pulls another linear moving member. I don't really care about modeling the cable right now, I just want the cylinder piston and the final member to move in unison. I can only drive one constraint at a time, so I figured I could relate the two constraints together by setting them equal to a parameter (variable), but that isn't working. Is it me or is driving multiple constraints at a time something that would be very useful for a lot of applications?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm modeling cables running through a series of cable clamps. I'm working in an assembly with my structure as one part, clamps as seperate parts, and cables as separate parts. I modeled the clamps first and am using them to create my 3d spline to run the sweep. The clamps have moved several times and each time, the sweeps (cables) do not update to follow the new clamping path. I have tried multiple ways of solving this.
I've tried to redo the splines using "Include Geometry" and running the spline through the centers of the clamps. I've also deleted the constraints (which for some reason turn into fixed) and reapplied them as coincident constraints. However, once I setup these coincidences, they always change back to fixed.
In a last ditch method, I've created 2d sketches at EVERY clamping location (yes that's alot of sketches, time and effort) and projected the circular geometry to get a center point. This has seemed to work, but is so much work, there's no way we could use it regularly.
I have a rectangle, it has an attribute called "WIDTH". Also it has a parameter for width of the rectangle. When I change the attribute (insert a block and define it) the width of the rectangle changes.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have used AutoCad for a few years and I installed 2013 to my laptop recently.I noticed that I couldn't specify how long a line should be. When I select the line tool and specify the base point and type how long it should be i.e. 3' and a red box appears around the dimension box and the line isn't drawn. I tried not specifying a unit of length and it draws the line just fine. But for some reason it wont complete the line if I specify feet or inches.

I have forgotten how to change the block to a solid, and then to extrude it to a given length.
I'm having a problem entering line lengths - something I remember occurring some time ago - but I can't' recall how I remedied it. The '@' symbol take time to register - instead of registering immediately as previously. I now have to check the command line each time and allow a moment for it to register before entering the values.
