Jan 26, 2013Any good source for DEM files? Geocomm has STDS DEM's but last time I tried them they looked like junk. I can't seem to find the layer on the national map server or earth explorer.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently creating templates for my drawings in order to standardise their use which includes the creation of templates, multileader styles, text styles etc... and placing them in custom tool palettes. I am also looking to add standard blocks such as fasteners and steel sections to my tool palettes however this has thrown a bit of a curveball. Basically I want all the blocks that I place in the tool palettes to move with the .dwt file I have created. At the moment it would appear that the source of the block is within the filing structure of the computer as apposed to just the template file it is placed in. Is there anyway to resolve this, or have the blocks so that they are stored within the template so that if the template is moved onto say a stand alone laptop elsewhere the blocks that appear in the tool palettes would go with the dwt file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Civil 2011 from 2009 and a drawing I was working in, which had a database attached, is no longer working. Fine. I understand that upgrading may cause some things to not work properly.
So, I try to attach that same database and I get an error message that reads:Failed to create the data source file:
Database2
I tried creating a brand new database with newly imported information and it did not work. I tried creating a brand new database with no information , and still I get the same message.
What is the best free source to get county GIS? I do a lot deed mosaic and I usually overlay the deed mosaic to the county GIS to get it close, so the crew can get roughly to state grid. We don't have GIS for every county and sometime the deed descriptions are hard to read or they are badly described and I don't know what the property looks like. We have county property tax map books, but is not the same. They are not 100% accurate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI originally did an existing surface that I was not really satisfied with. Then did an existing and proposed profile using the LandXML import/export option for getting the information from one file to another. I have since redone the existing surface to something I am more satisfied with, and set up data shortcuts, but I cannot figure out how to update the existing portion of my profile.
Essentially, I want to "unload" the previous surface information from LandXML and redirect the profile to the data shortcut information so the existing portion of the profile can be updated... preferably without disturbing the proposed portion of the profile.
There is a dialog box that lists information about the profile, but it does not want to let me modify or change anything.

I'm fairly new to Map 3D and I'm trying to attach either an Excel or Access file as a data source. I started out with a simple test case and created both Excel and Access files following the steps outlined in the first reply in post:
[URL].......
When I get to the drag & drop step to attach the data I get the following error messages:
Invalid Wordspace file format: My DocumentsTEST.xlsx
Invalid Wordspace file format: My DocumentsTEST.accdb
Not to be deterred, I saved the source files back to earlier xls and mdb file versions and was successful at attaching the data in both cases, but Map reported that there were no tables when I tried to define a link template.
What exactly is this tool used for if you cant change the source file name or the path? and why would the interface let me poke into these fields and give me the option to find and replace if they cnnot be edited
So how can I change the Source File name and path?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 Civil3D drawing with Data shortcuts in it. I need to replace the source drawing path of the data shortcut with another path. Is there a way to change this either manually or, preferably, programically. At some point we'll need to batch through the drawings and change this path information. Is this information is stored in a drawing dictionary somewhere? If so, where? If not, where?
Updating the .XML data files doesn't appear to affect data links already in the drawing.
I am having an issue with alignments not updating to the latest source drawing. Initially, the alignment source drawing was in File1.dwg. Due to a design change, a few of the alignments were revised in a new File2.dwg. For the first time ever, I used the Data Shortcuts Editor program to repoint the data shortcuts to the new File2 location. By all accounts, it looks like the data shortcut were updated to the new source drawing (File2).
The problem is in some files some of the alignments still source to the File1 location and even when manually synchronizing it still sources from File1. Additionally, it seems random in terms of which alignment and files source to File2, even to the point in some files one alignment will update to File2 and other won't and some alignments will update in some files but not all. Note that I am not the original creator of the files so I don't know much history on the files (no alignments seem promoted however).
What’s the best way for me to get all the alignments to point to the new data shortcut source drawing location?
I'm having a problem opening AutoCad Civil 3D 2010.
When I click the shortcut Windows starts configuration and then I get the following error message:

Verify that the files exists and that you can access it. Needless to say AutoCad wont open all I get is Retry or Cancel, selecting.
Retry just gets the same error so when I Cancel I then get "Are you sure you want to Cancel" which I select and then I get the message Fatal Error during installation.
This is a downloaded install from Autodesk and I dont have discs available.
DWG TruView,Autodesk Vault 2010 and Autodesk Design all installed OK.

Attached is a zip file with the source code I used to modify the Parcel Map Check Report, as discussed HERE. It is essentially the code as provided with C3D2009, modified to reduce the amount of paper required to print them out. There are some other optimizations (allow sorting by columns is one), but this was mostly done a few years ago and I do not recall everything I may have done. Projects included for C3D versions 2010-2012.

I feel its very un-businesslike to require/request them it ranks up there with requiring or requesting free specs. looking forward to your responses so i can come up with a polite way to explain why I won't hand over my work.
I need to copy a layer from one drawing to another, the problem is that one of them is in model and the other one is in paper. The method I tried using was: I used the q select command to copy all objects from one layer on to the clipboard and then tried pasting it in the other drawing (which was in paper) - and nothing got pasted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a project which has become very disorganized over the last year of editing due to PPs poor ability to effectively share sequences/projects across multiple computers. My assistant editor used a different computer and so the links in the sequences point to multiple "source" files in the project (some in imported folders). However, there is ultimately only one original video clip. The problem is that Premiere Pro won't allow me to delete the nested versions of the source files without also REMOVING the clips in each of the sequences that uses them. For example, the project folder looks like this:
- Original File Folder
-- videoClip-001.mov
- Imported File Folder (imported on one of the many exchanges between editor and assistant editor)
-- videoClip-001.mov
- Sequence version 1 (Uses the second video clip, not the first - although they are ultimately the same video file)
If I delete the Imported File Folder, which only has a mirrored reference to the same video file as in the Original File Folder, then the clip in Sequence Version 1 dissapears. What I expect, rather, is to see a "missing media" message in the sequence so I can reconnect it to the version in the Original File Folder. But I can't. BIG HOLE in Premiere Pro CC.
Why do I want to do this? In a large project with hundreds of video clips, keeping order is very important. With the sequences using multiple "versions" of the same video clip, that order goes down the tubes and it becomes impossible to work.
I recently discovered a 'change' to my 'Source Panel' window when I try to Import new files from my CF cards. I have 4.2 installed. All that is available on the left hand side of this window is the 'Other Source' pull down box and never any file source like my hard drives or CF cards or anything that used to be there prior to about a month ago. I reinstalled this program twice without any changes. Have I shut something off by accident? My buddy has the same program and he cannot find any reason my should be any different than his but it is.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a system of labeling my images to differentiate between the source files and the final edit images, but sometimes I need to apply different labels if there is something that's not ordinary to my process. My problem is that when I go back through my archive to look for something, I forget why I lebeled something a different color. I've been creating JPG's in Photoshop with notes for that specific job, but that's getting to be a pain.
It would be great to be able to create a note within Lightroom that I can view while I'm thumbing through my images.
I just installed Smoke Ext 1. I noticed that all of my source files on an existing job, that are H264, don't show up...they just have a black screen with audio.
Is H264 not compatible with Smoke?
Deleting temp files, if I can just do a blanket Erase, or will this potentially damage autocad drawings. My temp file is on my local drive, but all of our drawings are stored on a network drive. It seems to me I remember these things storing up over time with crashes, etc. But as they build up performance seems to dwindle.
These files range from .tmp files to Texture folders, .cvr files, and nonsense names like A$C5DCD5F31.Can I just window and Delete All?
I'm trying to add a database (excel ) as source for object in Map3D.
I start but when i select the excel file that i've created and stored in my pc map3d says that the cration of the data source doesn't work.
I have an Wood works Sizer to size beams and columns. What I normally do is insert an OLE object for a beam component right into Autocad. In older versions of Autocad, I could then double click on the ole object and design the beam right from autocad.
I have tried inserting one of these ole object (as a file) into Excel 2010 and everything works as expected. However, when I insert the same file (Insert...Object...From File) it is inserted as a Package. If I double click on the OLE icon I am taken into a dialog "Create Package" asking me to type the name of the file I want to package. I can't get autocad to open the source application to edit the OLE object.
If I look at the same process with inserting an excel spreadsheet, the source object will say Excel and everything works fine when do an ole open.
Is there some way to change or register a source application for my custom file type? I notice that my application is not listed in the Insert Object - Create New object type list.
i have 12 base maps (transportation.dwg, utilities.dwg, etc) and each of these base maps is attached to a data source (.mdb). when creating a new drawing and inserting these basemaps in the Task Pane by Attach Drawings & Query, i loose the connection to the data source in the new drawing
is there a way to have the datasource carry through and retain the attachment to new drawing?
also, in alot of maps we create we Xref (Transportation.dwg) and we loose the datasource in that situation too.
i'm new at this so hopefully my question makes sense.
When a client sends me drawings via email, how do I open them up/upload them to my AutoCad LT program?

When I do plotting from DWG to PDF now, it doesn't plot to the same folder as the DWG file and the file name also. It used to do that on my old PC.
Go through the settings and it doesn't have an option to let me plot to the same DWG folder or an option to plot to PDF with the same file name as the DWG.
I keep getting this error when I try to connect to an .xls or .dbf file.
