I just installed Smoke Ext 1. I noticed that all of my source files on an existing job, that are H264, don't show up...they just have a black screen with audio.
Is H264 not compatible with Smoke?
I'm trying to get my source audio to patch to tracks 3 and 4 in my record timeline. It looks like I should be able to drag on the source clips patch to change it from A1.L and A1.R to A2.L/A2.R.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI imported 24-bit, 48 khz audio-mono .wav-files and dont get an output of them. The Audio from the camera files are no problem. The debug mode shows me that I dont have audio dropframes.

We are working on one of our first projects in Smoke. We have transcoded our footage from 5K Epic footage to 1080P ProRes Proxy Files for editing in smoke. We are having an issue with audio playback. The files playback fine in Quicktime, Final Cut Pro X, and Adobe Premiere. But in Smoke the audio is just static/ hiss.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Pre Release 5 for editorial as opposed to conform and I've moved some of my source material to a different drive than I was using when I started the project.
Normally in FCP or Avid, I would just re-link to the footage and that would be that. I know this could be done with footage in the timeline, but what about plain old source footage? I can't seem to find the re-link tool.
In 2012 it was very easy to select a gap segment and click color source in the soft effects. In 2013 it appears to be much more difficult, you need to create it in a folder then edit it into a sequence. Am I missing something? I wish there was a color source option in the effects ribbon.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI might be being really thick but my old method of managing clips and handles in a master was to perhaps conform from rushes with 75fr handles, save that conform but then in my wip master I would consolidate all sees down to 10fr. This way if I was sharing shots around the facility you could match a shot out (using the old match to segment preference rather than match to source) and it would respect the handles you had set in your master.
I can't seem to replicate that old behavior in 2013 smoke. It will either match to source or to just the segment without handles. How can I get it to match out with the handles I have consolidated?
I opened 33 sources as "open as Sequence" behind each other and after doing that double clicking on the source or any source isn't loading it into the source viewer. There is no icon next to the source indicating that it isn't a source. After the fourth selection was open as Sequence. the one that was opened as the first is recycled and the Sequence Icon disappears from in-front of it. So there is only four icons at any given time in the list.

Can I easily do this in Smoke? Just conform the offline and export DPX sequence? Also, can I put in handles and include original source timecode?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to Smoke 2012 sp2 and have a small issue regarding the reordering of my clips in the source area.
On 2011 when you placed clips in the source area in a specific order and saved it to the library and when you recalled it from the library it would put the clips back in exactly the same place you left them. Now in 2012 when you do that it re-orders them in some sort of chronological order.
Is there a setting that I'm not aware of that will stop doing that as I place them in a specific structure which makes sense to me and is easy to find and understand on large builds, now I'm having to sift through the clips and waste time finding what I did last and checking through versions to find the latest one.
When matching a source clip from the new sequence area it appears that you now have to have the widget on the clip you wish to match rather than just select the clip. Is this a change in the way 'match' works or is it a bug?
It was always nice to just tap the clip and press match rather than now having to scrub your widget to the right layer and clip before pressing match.
Often when I go back to previously saved source areas from previous projects (like I just saved yesterday) my source clip icons are squished forcing me to re adjusts.

I have seen a number people new to smoke get confused when trying to edit mono audio source to a stereo track only to find the audio doesn't doesn't appear.
How about a preference that automatically splits the mono audio so that it edits to the stereo track?
If it was on by default it would definitely be of less confusion to new users
Or perhaps a dialogue box explaining why the edit did not work due to the differing audio properties.
Great work with getting smoke to where it is!
I can't seem to get source clips to Gang with the timeline in the record area, did we lose this? I always gang up my reference with my conform so I really hope we havn't lost this!

A weird thing is that I don't always get the error message. Sometimes the export works. But, more often it's not.
Whenever I try to enter source record mode the programs crashes and quits. I've tried with keyboard shortcut, using the option dropdown and the same thing happens. This did not happen with previous version.

I'm needing to sync animations to places in the audio but Smoke 2013 can't seem to do it.
I am trying to convince Smoke to import audio @48kHz. I have a new project within Smoke reading the input sample rate from my AJA card at 48K. The file that I am importing is 48K and it plays at 48K from the Mac desktop. When I import the file into smoke it sample rate converts it to 44.1 KHz.: Option_click on the file in the Smoke desktop confirms this. All hardware input and output sample rates are set to 48K. Is there a setting that I am missing in Smoke?
The default sound for my Mac is set to the AJA card and no other audio software is running.
Merged two mono tracks into a stereo one, then highlighted the clip and tried to cut the clip using ctrl-V - all that happens is the track becomes unhighlighted.
If i use shift Ctrl-V, then the track does get cut but so does every other track!
I checked the keyboard shortcuts and i'm pressing the right keys, just not seeing anything happen...

I use pr5. I got a clip (.mov with audio) and imported the clip and enable the cache source media so it will be transcoded into stone. Now after i edit the clip into the timeline , i want to reveal the master clip. so i select the clip and the audio as well (sync) and try to do match frame (F key). I got new clip reveal in my desktop but only the video, it got no audio. How to get the audio back from the original source ? why the match-frame is ignoring the audio ? so far i have to do silly steps by re edit the source clip back to the timeline to pair back with the audio. is this a bug ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen exporting a sequence I'm having problems with my audio being distorted, like it was peaking. Audio in the timeline sounds good, I did have some gain adjustments on some clips which I removed to see if that was the issue and the same problem is happening. No other effects other than some reverb are present.
Faders were normalised and audio peaked at -1dB only for a few seconds, the normal audio levels are about what is shown in the screenshot, around -6 to -5 dB.
This was exporting via the iPod preset with not further adjustments.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a timeline where the actual movie and music start at 10:00:00:00. Before that, I have a black chart with names on it. There is no audio underneath. But when I export a quicktime file, it pulled the music up front to the first frame of my chart (therefore, the music is too short now and out of sync...) Why is smoke doing that and how can I get Smoke to output the qt correctly?

I am editing in the timeline in Smoke 2013. I bring in a music track onto track 4. I bring in a interview clip on track 1. Only one or the other will playback and not together at the same time. I also notice on the audio tracks patch area a small square that when you place the cursor over and drag left or right I assume channels are being selected. What is this square box for and how do I get all my audio tracks to playback together?
I am using Panasonic P2 footage at 1920 x 1080. 29.97 NDF. I have brought them in through the media hub and created folders that correspond to each P2 card I stored on my Video Array. I am using a ProAvio Video Box with a RocketRAID 644 controller. What gives? Why am I not able to hear all the audio tracks during playback?
How is the best way to keep sync with clips that have audio. In Premiere for example, when a clip contains audio it handles both video and audio as a single thing until I explicitly unlink them. But in Smoke, even with the option Select linked, which as far as I can tell it only works for selecting and activate that little arrow (do not remember the name of the function) in the tracks table, keeps all ok but only on that track.
This is the normal operation of Smoke? He really will always treat the audio and video of same clip as separate things? Am I missing something? Because at least for me, that's came from Premiere, always be remembering to set all the tracks and always go to the menu and select Enable linked is what most complicates the editorial work in Smoke.
How do I dynamically select within a link selection instead of turning it on and of every-time I want to select audio only for deletion.
