I've been trying to export via the Wiretap Central, but when I try to open the IFFFS folder I get an error message: Unable to access the volume stonefs1: the given volume does not have a corresponding hardware partition.
When matching a source clip from the new sequence area it appears that you now have to have the widget on the clip you wish to match rather than just select the clip. Is this a change in the way 'match' works or is it a bug?
It was always nice to just tap the clip and press match rather than now having to scrub your widget to the right layer and clip before pressing match.
Every since installing 2013 on my iMac system, I get a pop-up window everytime the computer boots up. Here's the message:
Insecure Startup Items folder detected. Items in the Startup Items folder (“/Library/StartupItems/”) have not been started because the folder does not have the proper security settings.
I wanted to connect my Euphonix Color Board to Smoke, but in the beginning I get an error message saying that the EuCon Driver is incompatible. So which version is compatible? I'm running Smoke for Mac 2012 SP1, on Mac OS X 10.6.7

Is it possible to use a Sequence as a Source? I like to use stringouts of source clips while editing as well as sections of existing Sequences as source material for new Sequences.
1. I put a clip in a timeline , then i put a cfx clip on top of the first clip. Add axis clip to cfx clip, set transparancy to 100% (fully transparent) , when hit render , this cfx is still calculated.
2. if i have stack of cfx clips, the clips are solid (no matte or transparancy ). one clip is on top of the other. In the top layer , i add a axis fx and cut a very small hole. We can see even a very small hole ( that will exposed small part of the bg ) will trigger smoke to render both of the clip full frame. Actually i only will see small part of the BG so i'm expecting smoke to render only that visible pixel. How to control this ? In some case i will waste my time waiting smoke to render part that i don't need.
I'm using Pre Release 5 for editorial as opposed to conform and I've moved some of my source material to a different drive than I was using when I started the project.
Normally in FCP or Avid, I would just re-link to the footage and that would be that. I know this could be done with footage in the timeline, but what about plain old source footage? I can't seem to find the re-link tool.
In 2012 it was very easy to select a gap segment and click color source in the soft effects. In 2013 it appears to be much more difficult, you need to create it in a folder then edit it into a sequence. Am I missing something? I wish there was a color source option in the effects ribbon.
Where colour source on the timeline is. I am always droping black or coloured frames into the timeline either as a background for some softFX text or even as a fill for the softFX text so I can then track that text to the background.
I might be being really thick but my old method of managing clips and handles in a master was to perhaps conform from rushes with 75fr handles, save that conform but then in my wip master I would consolidate all sees down to 10fr. This way if I was sharing shots around the facility you could match a shot out (using the old match to segment preference rather than match to source) and it would respect the handles you had set in your master.
I can't seem to replicate that old behavior in 2013 smoke. It will either match to source or to just the segment without handles. How can I get it to match out with the handles I have consolidated?
I opened 33 sources as "open as Sequence" behind each other and after doing that double clicking on the source or any source isn't loading it into the source viewer. There is no icon next to the source indicating that it isn't a source. After the fourth selection was open as Sequence. the one that was opened as the first is recycled and the Sequence Icon disappears from in-front of it. So there is only four icons at any given time in the list.
I've been called upon to use Smoke as an intermediate between offline and color session elsewhere. I need to export a DPX sequence for the colorist to work from. Can I easily do this in Smoke? Just conform the offline and export DPX sequence? Also, can I put in handles and include original source timecode?
I have recently upgraded to Smoke 2012 sp2 and have a small issue regarding the reordering of my clips in the source area.
On 2011 when you placed clips in the source area in a specific order and saved it to the library and when you recalled it from the library it would put the clips back in exactly the same place you left them. Now in 2012 when you do that it re-orders them in some sort of chronological order.
Is there a setting that I'm not aware of that will stop doing that as I place them in a specific structure which makes sense to me and is easy to find and understand on large builds, now I'm having to sift through the clips and waste time finding what I did last and checking through versions to find the latest one.
Often when I go back to previously saved source areas from previous projects (like I just saved yesterday) my source clip icons are squished forcing me to re adjusts.
I have seen a number people new to smoke get confused when trying to edit mono audio source to a stereo track only to find the audio doesn't doesn't appear.
How about a preference that automatically splits the mono audio so that it edits to the stereo track?
If it was on by default it would definitely be of less confusion to new users
Or perhaps a dialogue box explaining why the edit did not work due to the differing audio properties.
I can't seem to get source clips to Gang with the timeline in the record area, did we lose this? I always gang up my reference with my conform so I really hope we havn't lost this!
I'm trying to get my source audio to patch to tracks 3 and 4 in my record timeline. It looks like I should be able to drag on the source clips patch to change it from A1.L and A1.R to A2.L/A2.R.
Whenever I try to enter source record mode the programs crashes and quits. I've tried with keyboard shortcut, using the option dropdown and the same thing happens. This did not happen with previous version.
All of a sudden, I'm unable to scroll through clips with real time feedback. Did I turn on some preference?
Also, I've noticed that when I'm in Action, I don't get realtime feedback going to the broadcast monitor, but rather the image catches up upon pen up. I don't see anything about it in the options in Action or global preferences.
is there a way to put a LUT on a clip, without having to 'bake' (process) it? So I can turn it on and off?
Our process is:
import R3E Raw files with User Settings in Red Log (so the image looks flat, with most color information).
then turn on a Display LUT (which settings would I use here?)
then do the color correction with the LUT on and after I'm finished, turn the LUT of and then export a dpx 10 Bit sequence to the vfx department, so they can work with it (in fusion).

I just installed Smoke Ext 1. I noticed that all of my source files on an existing job, that are H264, don't show up...they just have a black screen with audio.
I just started playing around with Smoke 2013. I played around with the CFX and did some keying. Now, on the timeline, I have a clip with CFXa and an axis effect. Now I thought, that it should be a container, and that I could simply double click the clip, step into the container and copy out the matte. But that doesn't work anymore, since double clicking now enters the editor again.
So, how can I access the matte (and how can I step into the container)?
Oh, and now that the unrendered clip is on the timeline, I only get the message Unrendered Frame. Obviously Smoke can't play back an unrendered clip, but why doesn't it at least show the frame I'm parked on? And also, I started rendering, but it took forever, so I stopped after 10 min. In Smoke 2012 it rendered at least partially, but now I still only have a dotted line......

Tell me that I'm wrong on this but with the new CFX clip in SP3, it looks like you can't update the original CFX Clip and have it update/link to all shots where it is placed. It would be so perfect. Now it is just another "fancy" way to copy&paste comps?
Is there a way to remove/delete the history from a rendered clip, other than re-rendering the clip without history enabled? Flame has a desktop function that can delete the history from an entire desktop (which would be convenient in my case here on Smoke 2012).
I created a stereoscopic timeline in Smoke. That seems to work so far, but now I want to output it in full resolution on a 3D TV (Samsung). The TV only supports HDMI in.
I'm working on a Smoke for Mac 2012 with a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (which has 1xDVI and 2x Display Ports). And we have the AJA Kona 3G (SDI out and mini HDMI). We have a reference monitor which is connected via SDI and that works.
We tried to connect the Mac via mini HDMI to HDMI. We did get a signal from Final Cut Pro, but we didn't get a signal out of Smoke.
I tried all kinds of settings, but there is no way of outputting an image from Smoke. What options do we have, so we can get a 3D signal out?
I heard that Smoke for Mac doesn't support Dual SDI out. Is that right? Would it work to simply buy a converter from SDI to HDMI? Would I still get full res HD out then?

I have R3D footage which I imported in 2K. For a couple shots I need a higher resolution, so I matched out my original clip from my timeline, saved it to my library, double clicked and selected Modify Clip History, where I set my layering to full. I don't change anything else, however, now my In and Out TC are not correct anymore! Everything is fine, just until I hit the Modify Clip History and Apply the changes.
If there is still an option somewhere where I can force my import to be frames and set duration to 5 or 10 frames like in 2012. or force a set of sequences o be imported as one clip.
Update: Found the frames option but no frame durations available. But no single clip available in case of importing multiple sequences or frames that need to be in a single sequence.
