Is there any way to determine the source drawing of a dref'ed object? I'm not seeing anything in COM or the .NET API's, hopefully I'm just not looking in the right place.
View 5 Repliesis it possible to get the alignment name which the corridor surface is built from when the surface is being data referenced. in other word no corridor as the middleman.
the way i see it is when corridor suface is referenced, it becomes a regular surface and loses some properties such as parent alignment.
i am still using COM. maybe .net can do it? either way works.

When creating my plan set, I need to data reference pipe networks into other drawings than that in which they were designed to show crossings in profile views or to separate out profiles into managable drawings. When I do this, if I have swapped a type-13 inlet for a 10' type R inlet or something during design, the data referenced pipe network will replace the 10' type R with a default inlet. Also if I have swapped a proposed 30" pipe for an existing 30" that have different styles, the data referenced pipe network will revert back to the proposed 30" pipe. how to make a data referenced pipe network reflect what is currently in the design drawing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 Civil3D drawing with Data shortcuts in it. I need to replace the source drawing path of the data shortcut with another path. Is there a way to change this either manually or, preferably, programically. At some point we'll need to batch through the drawings and change this path information. Is this information is stored in a drawing dictionary somewhere? If so, where? If not, where?
Updating the .XML data files doesn't appear to affect data links already in the drawing.
I have created a data shortcut to a surface using Civil3D 2011. When I create a reference to it in another drawing, it shows up in the Prospector but nothing shows up on the screen. I have played with the surface style and made sure all the layers were on and tried closing and reopening the drawing.
I have also tried to reference it into a brand new blank drawing and I even tried to reference a surface in a different file that I have referenced several times before (in 2010). Every time I get the same results. It seems like the surface is there, but I just can't see it.
Not sure if this is something that has been going on a while, if it is a design flaw, or if it just a workflow thing that we should be more mindful of, but here goes:
1. I data reference an alignment into a drawing.
2. I later data reference in a profile that was created from and associated with that alignment.
In this scenario, Civil 3D creates a duplicate alignment for the profile i.e., the orginal alignment is in prospetor as 'Alignment A' and the profile being data referenced in creates a 'Alignemnt A (1)' duplicate and associates itself with it.
This also happens if I bring in a different profile created from the same alignment IF the alignment was already present as a data reference in the drawing.
This seems wrong. It doesn't do any of this if I data reference the profile in first...
We have a HUGE number of data referenced surfaces and alignments that need to be moved to a different group of folders. Is there a simple way to do this without breaking the references (each surface/alignment) is referenced into multiple drawings.
The project was divided up into a bunch of little mini projects so now we have 500150_A, 500150_B etc (around 90 of them). Each one has a dwg file with a surface and at least one alignment and that drawing is data referenced to all the other sheets within that mini project. Each project has _Shortcuts, drawings etc.
The powers-that-be have decided to 1) change the project number (from 500150 to 500152) and 2) to bring all these mini projects together into ONE project.
We've confirmed that each surface/alignment has a unique name which means that there shouldn't be a conflict in that regard.
I have a design file that has and alignment with 3 profiles (one surface profilke and two layout profiles)
All these are data referenced to the project. Then they are data referenced into a new file. I bring in one of the profiles that brings in the alignment. Lets call it "Main Street". Then I create another reference to another one fo the profiles and it brings in a copy of an alignment and calls it "Main Street (1)"
This is a pain because I cant get a profile view to show all the profiles because the profiles are associated with three different alignments "Main Street", "Main Street(1)", "Main Street(1)(1)"
This is only happening with one of the of the alignments. The other alignment has all its profiles listed under one alignment.
I just upgraded to Civil 2011 from 2009 and a drawing I was working in, which had a database attached, is no longer working. Fine. I understand that upgrading may cause some things to not work properly.
So, I try to attach that same database and I get an error message that reads:Failed to create the data source file:
Database2
I tried creating a brand new database with newly imported information and it did not work. I tried creating a brand new database with no information , and still I get the same message.
How can I screen back an aerial that is being x-referenced into a drawing?

The method I tried using was: I used the q select command to copy all objects from one layer on to the clipboard and then tried pasting it in the other drawing (which was in paper) - and nothing got pasted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with alignments not updating to the latest source drawing. Initially, the alignment source drawing was in File1.dwg. Due to a design change, a few of the alignments were revised in a new File2.dwg. For the first time ever, I used the Data Shortcuts Editor program to repoint the data shortcuts to the new File2 location. By all accounts, it looks like the data shortcut were updated to the new source drawing (File2).
The problem is in some files some of the alignments still source to the File1 location and even when manually synchronizing it still sources from File1. Additionally, it seems random in terms of which alignment and files source to File2, even to the point in some files one alignment will update to File2 and other won't and some alignments will update in some files but not all. Note that I am not the original creator of the files so I don't know much history on the files (no alignments seem promoted however).
What’s the best way for me to get all the alignments to point to the new data shortcut source drawing location?
It was in Feb - March 2012. I was then using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. I had faced a problem of getting ground data for a large surface by using satellite imageries processed by some government wing of USA (NASA?), have lost track of it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWe have a perenial problem with our old GIS software where files corrupt and drawing objects are lost.
There are few export options available, but export to shape is one of them. This means that I can export a damaged file and then import it into CAD with the layers intact and the tagged numbers (similar to object data or a block attribute in CAD) imported as object data. In order to make a new uncorrupted version for the GIS program.
Is there a way to select objects by object data?
If a file is corrupted, the only real way to repair it at the moment is to go back to the original cad drawing and reimport and then retag every single tagged attribute on what can be thousands of drawing objects, and by then we may no longer have the handdrawn data to even do that.
The next workaround is if I creat new dwgs from the cad drawing, Each one containing the objects with the same object data, and each saved with a file name that matches that object data, and then reimport into the GIS. (it can use the filename as a tag). This creates a new GIS file with the surviving information that should not lose any more data and we may be able to patch the 'holes' afterwards.
The problem is selecting all the polylines in the cad drawing that have that same tagged number in the object data. Select similar just goes on object type and layer. This would be easier if I could select by object data and get everything with the same tag in one go.
A way to batch create the new dwgs from that selected data would be nice too.

Is there a way to define object data to a polygon or a poly line in C3d? I imported a shape file and saw that in the properties dialog box the object data of the polygons is displayed. I would like to define create new polygons and define certain atrributes to it before exporting it as a shape file. This would would eliminate the need to use a GIS program to define the attributes of the polygons.
Im using PCSWMM and would like to define certain atributes to polygons and polylines in C3D before i import it in to PCSWMM.

I have created a space with space generater, added a room tag. When I click on the room tag and click properties I do not have Property Sets from Referenced Objects under extended data. How do I add this? I drawing I did about a year ago has this, but the curent project does not and I do not remember how I managed to get this info to appear.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have 12 base maps (transportation.dwg, utilities.dwg, etc) and each of these base maps is attached to a data source (.mdb). when creating a new drawing and inserting these basemaps in the Task Pane by Attach Drawings & Query, i loose the connection to the data source in the new drawing
is there a way to have the datasource carry through and retain the attachment to new drawing?
also, in alot of maps we create we Xref (Transportation.dwg) and we loose the datasource in that situation too.

I am looking for a tool or routine to automatically add a unique object data ID number to Points or lines of a sewer system, that extract a prefix number from a seperate object data table (a location grid of closed polygons), then add a sequential number to each selected object. For example, 12 manhole points and 3 cleanouts are located with in one grid polygon. The Grid polygon has a coded id like 61280206, I want to be able to select all the MH and CO points in that grid polygon and have the new ID numbers be 6128020601, 6128020602, 6128020603, or to be able to specify the starting number like 6128020621,(for adding new points and continuing the sequence.
Better yet would be a routine that would be able to apply this system to all the points in the entire project area, extract the number from the appropriate grid polygon, and fill the numbers in one operation.
This is for the initial id numbering of a Cities, Sewer, water and electrical system.
I have searched for and found many LISP routines that do some of this (like ODCOUNT, etc), but none that I have seen have the data table extraction abilities. I do have one that works like this and files in the prefix number from a named views. I have several thousand grid cells (880ftx880ft). Perhaps there is a way to use my polygons w/table to create and name views
Is it possible to link / reference data from other drawings via labels? For instance, if I have a pipe network from a utility file and reference to a grading file. Could I add labels in that grading file that are from the utility drawing?
I want the pipe diameter minus the surface and maybe list an area of a parcel in one label?So I guess if you can take parts of the Civil 3D objects and tie that back to a general label type.
I imported survey data from a file into the drawing and created a surface from the points and figures. No problem. Engineer wanted to change the datum from assumed to known. At this point all figures have been copied to a new layer flattened and changed to 2D polylines in order to hatch. Then the figures reimported. I raised all the points with the edit datum and raised the figures with edit survey figures. Surface was adjusted and tweaked. Everything was fine. I open the drawing and all the figures are back at assumed datum and the points are on the right datum. Now when I tweak the surface it uses the bogus elevations from the figures. How can I get my figures to save the adjusted elevations?
