I am inside a idw that has views for couple of parts. From within the IDW is there a way to know the paths of the location that the parts are from?
I know if I use a design assistant I can know, But from within IDW?

When creating my plan set, I need to data reference pipe networks into other drawings than that in which they were designed to show crossings in profile views or to separate out profiles into managable drawings. When I do this, if I have swapped a type-13 inlet for a 10' type R inlet or something during design, the data referenced pipe network will replace the 10' type R with a default inlet. Also if I have swapped a proposed 30" pipe for an existing 30" that have different styles, the data referenced pipe network will revert back to the proposed 30" pipe. how to make a data referenced pipe network reflect what is currently in the design drawing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a FG assembly that shows errors. The parts referenced no longer exist, but it still tells me there are errors on the sketches. Since the parts no longer exist in the assembly, or anywhere for that matter, how can I get rid of this error? I have tried making parts and naming them the same, which it allows me to do, but no luck in resolving the error. I can include the assembly but it is 63MB compressed and am running 2011.

How do I make referenced components from parts and assemblies? (I searched the web and it said that that you can change it in the iProperties by selecting the Reference tick box under the occurance tab - but no such thing exists in Inventor 2011!

Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing? I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.
For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."
Is there a way to check a drawing to see if it's been cross referenced in another file?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have this file that won't open in AutoCAD Architecture 2012, well let me rephrase that, it won't finish opening. It has 4 or 5 xref's attached. I was able to open this same file using 2010. Through process of elimination I was able to determine that a file that was exported from Revit MEP 2012 was the problem. When that file was detached the drawing would open just fine. To make things more interesting, I am able to open the Revit Export file just fine using 2012. What diabolical combination of event has happened to cause this SNAFU.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a building key for building reference (inserted as a xref into the individual drawings) in many of my drawings. I have layers for specific areas and rooms. I turn off the layers on the appropriate drawings (if the drawing is for room 301, I make sure all other layers are off and only 301 are on).
My problem come when I add a new layer to the key and since the key in xrefd into many drawings it shows up as always being on.
This makes to have to go back and do a little bit of layer control each time I change the xref.
VISRETAIN=1 only keeps the layers set to last save and everything added to the xrefs are basically taken from the xref (color, visibility, etc). Is there a way to set a variable so that you have to check the new xref layers before they show up on the referenced drawing?
I am now making drawings of complexed structures and would like to draw attention to some elements that are important for particular drawing.
What I would like best would be to be able to schade selected parts. But did not find a way to do that.
In a drawing Is there anyway to section (and show the hatch pattern) on reference components?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I zoom in on a drawing, certain parts of the drawing will just disappear. Dimensions, title block, text...it doesn't matter, its different every time. It's not all the time but when it happens it's frustrating. Try dimensioning a part that isn't visible! When I zoom out to a full page view it always returns. When I zoom in again, parts will disappear. See attached screen captures and you will see the same file at different moments.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently trying to show a comparison of Center of Gravity between two assembly's. One is the original state and the other has counter weight bars. I know how to get the COG to show on my drawings, but both COG locations are the same in my drawings (but different in my assembly) My problem is when I create View Representations and I toggle the Counter Weight bars off, the COG in my drawing still remains in the same location as if they were still on. I know the hard way of accomplishing my task would be to save 2 seperate models (one with Counter Weights and one without). But I would like to take full advantage of the Representation Option. Using IV 2012 Pro.

I am not sure why, but i can't hide few parts in my drawing. I have hidden few parts and saved the view rep. I have called that particular view rep and still I am seeing it the drawing. I am unable to hide it. This is a multi body solid part file. I use INV2012. Win 7

Is it possible to contol the visibility state of an external referenced drawing? I have an architectural plan drawing that uses a titlesheet drawing as an external reference. In my civil plan i want to use a different title sheet. Instead of having a different titlesheet drawing for the civil drawing i was wondering if i could turn my titlesheet drawing into a dynamic block. In my architectural drawing i would see visibility state #1 & in my civil drawing i would see visibility state #2.

I was wondering if there is a way to export or save an assembly drawing to .dwg format (that can be opened by cad or acad mechanical) in such a way that all the parts of the assembly are exported as individual blocks (within the same file) To explain- lets say I have a .i am out of which I create a drawing (.dwg for inventor). Then I export or save this as acad dwg. This acad dwg should have all parts of the assemblies as blocks so that if I want to work on a particular part in the 2d environment of acad, that is possible.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly that is identical to another assembly with the exception of 2 or 3 components. I want to create 2 different configurations of the assembly, e.g. 12345-009 for the original assy and 12345-019 for the similar assy that has a couple of different components and/or additional components. I can create the -009 assembly and then do a "Save As" for the -019 assy and do a "Component/Replace" and add (or delete) other components.
I want both of these assemblies to be on the same drawing with a base number of 12345. I know I can do this and create a separate parts list (BOM) for each configuration and put it on the drawing. Is there a way to "merge" the two PLs so that there is a quantity column for each configuration (-009 and -019)? For example, if the same gear is used in both assemblies, I want a quantity of 1 in each column. If a component is used in one but not the other, i want only the quantity to show up in the appropriate configuration column.
I am using Inventor 2011.

When a new parts list is created and you select the view it automatically chooses parts and greys out, preventing you from actually changing it manually. Is it possible to get around this without having to start a new drawing?
