Oct 13, 2011I'm referencing an assembly on a drawing. When new parts are added to this assembly, they show up on my drawing, anyway to stop this?

Oct 7, 2009Sometimes I turn various parts (visibility) off in an assembly. If I want to turn them all on again without doing it one at a time or selecting them all individually, I find IV turns everything OFF first, then I have to reselect them all again and turn evrything on. Jul 8, 2012I was wondering if there is a way to export or save an assembly drawing to .dwg format (that can be opened by cad or acad mechanical) in such a way that all the parts of the assembly are exported as individual blocks (within the same file) To explain- lets say I have a .i am out of which I create a drawing (.dwg for inventor). Then I export or save this as acad dwg. This acad dwg should have all parts of the assemblies as blocks so that if I want to work on a particular part in the 2d environment of acad, that is possible.

Nov 25, 2011I don't understand why my parts aren't updating when I put a hole through them on the assembly drawing? I would expect the part (.ipt file) to get updated with a hole through it when I save the assembly drawing, however it doesn't. Do I have to change a default setting or does inventor no do this?

Feb 8, 2010From a VB.Net program, I'm trying to create a dimension on a drawing document between two parts in an assembly. I can get the parts using component occurrence. The line marked below throws the following error: The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG)).
As you may see, I have allocated memory for both "Edge" and "Face" (Dim oEdge1 As Face) albeit one is commented out. Attached is the screen shots from the attribute helper add-in. In it, you will notice that the attributes are of type: "Face".

Nov 27, 2012I have created an assembly that has a parts list, and in this parts list I have up to 100 mono detail drawings. I would like to know if there is a way to print all of these drawing from that list in a massive plot.
At my previous company we had something like this in AutoCAD where a script was created to look at the drawings and print all drawings mentioned in the assembly BOM and subsequent sub-assemblies, it worked beautifully.
I find that I have to print all drawings to paper or PDF individually.

Nov 19, 2011I'm using Autodesk Inventor 2012 SP1 64 Bit on a Windows 7 machine without vault.
I seem to be missing something. I cannot get the parts list in assembly drawing to fill the part number column. See the image below.
The BOM has the part number field filled out as shown below. Is there someway that I need to map the iProperty to the part number column in parts list?
AutoCAD Inventor :: LOD Changes In IDW After New Parts Are Added In IAM - IV2008
May 18, 2007We often design on the fly, creating IAM's and IDW's for the shop to use. I began using the LOD's for memory purposes of these large assemblies. These LOD's are a copy of the View rep. Items suppress and all works well in the assembly. In the IDW's views, I've started specifying the matching LOD. This also works well, until I add a parts to the IAM that happen to be within the view rep in the IDW.
The LOD was created from a LOCKED view rep. The added items are not visible in either the view rep or the LOD of the IAM, and this is the intent of a locked view. However, they are NOT suppressed in the LOD.
Somehow, because they are not suppressed, they are now visible in the IDW view, and in any view that is project from the base view.
I have to go back to the IAM, suppress EACH of the added items in EACH and EVERY LOD in order for the IDW's I have already created remain the same.
I would think that one would also be able to LOCK a LOD and any items added would be suppressed.

Oct 31, 2011My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.
When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.
I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.
I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.
In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

Oct 27, 2011In my part, there was already an existing Engineering note.
I wanted to add another note. I added my new note, but it does not show up in the browser. I can right click on the note note > Display note and both notes are shown in the engineering notebook. When I exit out of the notebook and go back to Inventor, still not there. Here is a short video of what I am seeing.
[URL]. The "Rev B" noteis the original one and Note 2 is the one that I just added.
Now I if I add another note, then all of them will show up in the browser. This is not the first time that I have seen this, but just thought I would bring this up.
This part was just made with a copy design from Vault. What is weird, is that if I go to the part that this was copied from and add the note, it shows up correctly then. Its like something is getting hosed in the copy design process.

Dec 9, 2013Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing? I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.
For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."

Nov 20, 2011I am designing a component whose internal mechanism is housed in a plastic shell. I want to use the boss feature in the shell so I can hold together the components internally, but the boss feature is only available in the part workspace, but in order for me to know where the internal components are so I can design my shell accurately, I have to be in the assembly workspace.
Now, if I opened the shell as a part alone, and imported (through the Derive command) the parts that need to be fit into the shell, they will appear at random positions, and because you cannot create constraints in the Part Workspace, I have no effective way of holding them where they should go.

Mar 15, 2012I have 4 columns in BOM that I call out in Parts Lists on my drawings.
I need to be able to organize parts in my assembly somehow and to be able to display if needed (on Parts List) only parts belonging to one category (level?).
I could do it by creating another custom iproperty in a part template and each part would belong to a particular group. Then I could sort them in BOM in .iam environment and have particular category visible on Parts List with the other categories with visibility turned off.

May 11, 2012I'm working on a small Assy (25 parts). When I open one of the parts from this Assy and work on it then go back to the Assy many parts are not visible. The update button is usually off so I can't use it.
This started only about 2-3 weeks ago - in every assy. I changed the nvidia driver but didn't work.

I'm trying to create a hole in a plate that lines up with a hole in a different part in the same assembly. I know there is probably a way to create the hole in the assembly and reference the other part but I dont know how.

Apr 8, 2013When I place parts in my assembly they are stuck in the position I place it and can only be moved once I mate it to another part of my assembly. I have only recently encountered this problem, as usually when I place a parts in an assembly I am able to simply click on the component and drag/move that part around to put it in a place that suits before I use any constraints.
What is the problem, have I clicked on some function unknown to myself which has disabled the ability to move parts/assemblies when I place them into an assembly?
