AutoCAD Inventor :: The Parts Referenced No Longer Exist
Apr 8, 2013
I have a FG assembly that shows errors. The parts referenced no longer exist, but it still tells me there are errors on the sketches. Since the parts no longer exist in the assembly, or anywhere for that matter, how can I get rid of this error? I have tried making parts and naming them the same, which it allows me to do, but no luck in resolving the error. I can include the assembly but it is 63MB compressed and am running 2011.

I have an assembly model which I have `save copy as` to create a new assembly (80% parts the same). I have opened my new assembly and deleted/replaced parts and assemblies that I do not require.
One (released) assembly I have deleted is still showing listed in the vault browser (not in model browser). It is not in the model, is not revealed by `find in window`, is not listed in the bill of materials. If I close my assembly and reopen it is still listed there.
This has now occured in two assemblies. I have never experienced this before in many years of use. We recently upgraded to Inv 2011 and VM Pro 2011 and I'm wondering if there is a connection.
How do I make referenced components from parts and assemblies? (I searched the web and it said that that you can change it in the iProperties by selecting the Reference tick box under the occurance tab - but no such thing exists in Inventor 2011!
When creating my plan set, I need to data reference pipe networks into other drawings than that in which they were designed to show crossings in profile views or to separate out profiles into managable drawings. When I do this, if I have swapped a type-13 inlet for a 10' type R inlet or something during design, the data referenced pipe network will replace the 10' type R with a default inlet. Also if I have swapped a proposed 30" pipe for an existing 30" that have different styles, the data referenced pipe network will revert back to the proposed 30" pipe. how to make a data referenced pipe network reflect what is currently in the design drawing?
I have a 2 part assembly on a drawing. When I use the following code, checkFilename is giving me the full file name of one of the parts instead of the full file name of the assembly. How can I fix this?
Dim checkBalloon As Balloon Dim valueSet As BalloonValueSet Set valueSet = CheckBalloon.BalloonValueSets.Item(1) Dim checkFilename As String checkFilename = valueSet.ReferencedFiles.Item(1).FullFileName
I have placed an subassembly into another assembly that I am working on. This sub was then chagned to be a "reference". Now in the idw, I would like to pull a leader to the subassembly and I want the text in the leader to say what is in the "Title" Property of the subassembly. When I change the format of the leader text to be Type = "Properties-Model" and Property= "Title", I get the title of the part in the subassembly, not the title of the subassembly. It is like the subassembly is a phantom assembly, but it is not. The workaround is to manually type in the text, but this is a mistake waiting to happen.
Is there a way to get the leader to note the title of the subassembly correctly.
I'm trying to get the value of the Category iproperty of the model on the active drawing sheet. This is not a problem in a single sheet drawing, but I'm not sure how to specifically retrieve the Referenced Document of the Active Sheet in s multi sheet drawing.
Here's what I have:
Option Explicit
Public Sub PartsListFilter()
'set reference to the drawing document 'assumes that a drawing is active Dim oDraw As DrawingDocument Set oDraw = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument [code]........
what im trying to do is select a face in an assembly and create a sketch on it in the part level
this is just one step in the program im trying to make the overall program will create a tube frame and the tubes will be driven from a base solid
Sub test1() Dim asmDoc As AssemblyDocument Set asmDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument Dim asmDef As AssemblyComponentDefinition Set asmDef = asmDoc.ComponentDefinition [code]......
Is it possible to make the column 'REV' automatically equal to the 'Item' column in attached BOM view? I manually added the values 1 to 5 in the REV column for example.
Maybe with some ilogic rule? I don't know if it's possible and/or where to start.
When i place a mono-part-detail on a assembly drawing i want to be able to place a leader referenced to the REV value. When this is possible there is a link between assembly item number and the mono-part leader.
I open my assembly and get this prompt."The material referenced in the sheet metal rule could not be located....."
There are several sheet metal parts in this assembly, so I am not really sure which part it is talking about. Would be good if it listed the part number so I could correct it. So I am off to find the one that is causing the trouble. I close my iam and open the first sheet metal part, no dialog box, so I assume its not this one. Close it, and open the next one. No dialog box, so I open the next one..... I continue this until I have opened all the sheet metal parts in this assembly and NONE show me the dialog again.... huh!! That was yesterday.
I come in this morning, start Inventor and open one of the sheet metal parts from yesterday and immediately get the dialog again. The problem is that this dialog will only appear ONCE per Inventor session.
Once I nailed down the offending part, I then tried to find the offending material. I dont really know what this dialog is telling me cause the materials for the rules are stored locally in the part. Why is it even trying to reference a material in the library?
I am writing a external ilogic riule, which will iterate through all the referenced documents of the active assembly and write certain iproperties to a text file.
The code is below
It works in that the text file is created and it does write the iproperties. HOWEVER it only writes the iproperties from the active assembly
' go through all referenced documents in a assembly . Grab the description, title and part number iproperties
' and print out a list
If Not ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.DocumentType= kAssemblyDocumentObject Then Return End if
[Code]....
How can i fix this code so that it writes the iproperties for each oFileRef ?
I am trying to replace a custom part - created from a content center part - with a copied part with a different name. (I am using the replace tool in an assembly.) However, Inventor is not replacing the part with the part I pick but rather the content center version of it.
On the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List. Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list. On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.
On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3. Two of those Three are optional parts. What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.
I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing. Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone. I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description. I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).
Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible. Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.
I am working on an assembly that is designed around a box (bounding box) that could change size. I modeled the bounding box and placed it in a new assembly file. All other parts have been created within the assembly by referencing that bounding box with starting work plane and project geometry.
The problem comes in when I change the bounding box dimensions. The work planes for each additional part, which were defined by the faces of the bounding box, do not move when the sides move. Also, my projected geometry is not updating correctly. This is a simple box, with all 90° corners. So, all associated parts (at this point) are just rectangles.
My parts list on my idw do not update when I make changes to the model. Specifically, I have deleted a bolted connection on my design and replaced with a different components but the parts list table does not update - all I see is a lightning bolt in the browser next to the parts list but I cannot update it here.

I was using virtual parts to add nuts and bolts to a drawing in 2013
I can make a VP bolt in the assembly, no problem, set it's size, weight, etc.
In the VP itself, there is no option for number of bolts I want it to emulate. For arguement's sake the weight was 1 pound per bolt (they are big bolts).
I can go into the BOM and say quantity 60, hit done and save the assembly.
If i open the drawing, the parts lists shows 60lbs for the 60 bolts total - which it should when summing the weight.
The problem is the BOM/assembly. If the weight of my assembly (without bolts) is 10,000lbs, the assembly sees the VP weighing 1lb and says the total weight is 10,001 lbs. Am i going to have to pattern a fake part to get this to work right? Shouldn't the total weight take into account the quantity set in the Bom??
Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing? I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.
For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."
I have an assembly with a lot of purchased parts. I need to create a buy out list for purchasing. I've done this many times in the past and have a template set up for this purpose.
So now the problem, In this assembly, I have subassemblies showing up on my parts only parts list.
One of the subassemblies cinsists of two purchased parts. Both parts are set to purchased in the Bill of materials. If I do a parts only list on this assembly, it works as expected, showing two purchased parts. However, if I put that assembly into a higher level assembly, A parts only parts list shows the assembly instead of the individual parts.
I have a .idw that I'm trying to make a parts list on. I select parts list and highlight everything. There are two screws that are not showing up on the parts list. I cannot select them manually either. It's acting like they are not there. Even if I do a complete parts list (adding the assemblies parts into one big list), they still don't show up.
How can I select these parts? What is wrong with them that they do not show up in the parts list?
I have been working with an assembly today where it is ideal to mirror parts and have figured out how to reuse the parts rather than create new parts. Now I find that when the parts are mirrored, they ate not retaining the mates. Where do I find the setting so they either retain their mates, or prefferably retain the mirror so that if I move the origional, the mirror moves as well?
Something was changed in my Inventor settings yesterday, and I have no idea what it was, or how to change it back.
In the part sketch mode, when I go to dimension an object, I no longer get the box pop up for me to enter the dimension. I now have to double click the dimension in order to enter the correct dimension.
What was changed, and more importantly, how do I change it back?
As you can see from the image below, the preview shows the weld I want and need, but as per the error message it is saying the geometry is no longer available. What does that mean? Anything to do with the fact that the pieces being welded together are custom CC parts? If that is the issue is there a remedy for it?

Using Inventor 2012, up to date on patches, realistic style (which I could use two days ago) is no longer selectable. Also when I go to the Style and Standard Editor, the Realist Appearance section has the warning triangle with the message, "Autodesk Material Library is not available".
I gues this is another bug by Autodesk that is comming up in my stress analysis. Basically all work I have done is gone. The frame won't appear and get big "NOT AVAILIBLE" on my screen. There is no way to fix it because there is no red cross highlighted
I'm running 2012, and once in a while while in an assembly, I can no longer select the part in the display (alike to selecting the part in the browser) and instead can only select faces of parts. I think I might be hitting something when I right click, though I'm unsure. How to reverse it?
