I have an Wood works Sizer to size beams and columns. What I normally do is insert an OLE object for a beam component right into Autocad. In older versions of Autocad, I could then double click on the ole object and design the beam right from autocad.
I have tried inserting one of these ole object (as a file) into Excel 2010 and everything works as expected. However, when I insert the same file (Insert...Object...From File) it is inserted as a Package. If I double click on the OLE icon I am taken into a dialog "Create Package" asking me to type the name of the file I want to package. I can't get autocad to open the source application to edit the OLE object.
If I look at the same process with inserting an excel spreadsheet, the source object will say Excel and everything works fine when do an ole open.
Is there some way to change or register a source application for my custom file type? I notice that my application is not listed in the Insert Object - Create New object type list.
Is there any way to determine the source drawing of a dref'ed object? I'm not seeing anything in COM or the .NET API's, hopefully I'm just not looking in the right place.
I'm trying to change the dafault varible for the mirror command from no to yes. whne you do the mirror command after you choose your second point it asks if you want to erase the source object and the default is set to no but I would like to change it to yes. I'm able to change the macro for the mirror button which works but only when I push the button. Before the cui file I remember everything was done from the acad.pgp or the acad.mnu files but with the new CUI file i can't seem to locate wher to change the actual command and not just the macro for the mirror button.
If it is possible to replace objects in a scene with light objects. The normal replace function in the import menu will only replace normal mesh objects with other mesh objects. But if I try the same by replacing box objects in my scene with the light source object I saved in a separate max file, it says it doesn't find any objects in the max file with the same name despite it having the exact same name. (both objects in question have all lower case letters in the name)
I'm currently using Max 10 to render lightmaps for a first person shooter game and I use various scripts to get the game content into the scene. The game also provides object positions for glow objects which are in positions I intend to use for light sources. Normally I go through a long tedious process of cloning light objects and positioning roughly in the same area where the glow objects are. (objects I decide not to replace with the game's object meshes appear as standard box objects in max unless I convert them to mesh objects).
But I would like to create a set of light objects and do a batch replace on some objects already in the scene with my light objects. This would save me a lot of time. Is there a function max that can do this or is there a script that can do this?
I'm rigging a model of a robot and I have wires (nurbs circles extruded along a curve) attaching to two objects that are on different joints. I have it rigged so that when the first joint moves, half of the CVs of all the wires (in a control cluster) move along with the joint (and, in turn, the object they are attached to). This much works fine, the extruded nurb follows the curve and stays the same diameter from start to finish. My problem starts with the rigging of the second joint (the second joint is the parent of the first joint). I've tried many different ways of rigging it, but as I'm only just starting rigging my thought process isn't quite a straight line yet. Basically my problem is when the source curves physically move, the extruded surface goes twice the distance as displayed in the picture below.
I need to know how to get the extruded surface to always be in the same place as the curve with out breaking the connection.
When I select "Object Properties" as the source for the callout text, it always includes the field name. For instance, I select Field A and Field B as active fields in the Object Data Manager and enter "x" and "y" respectively, as the fields' value. The callout then produces the text "Field A = x" and "Field B = y". I only want to display the field's value (i.e., x and y). I don't want or need the "Field A =" or "Field B" = " displayed.
I need to copy a layer from one drawing to another, the problem is that one of them is in model and the other one is in paper. The method I tried using was: I used the q select command to copy all objects from one layer on to the clipboard and then tried pasting it in the other drawing (which was in paper) - and nothing got pasted.
Trying to utilize a .sid file within Standard AutoCAD 2013, all suggestions point to an Object Enabler but notice that for 2013 all are for Civil 3D, Plant...
I have documents from an architect that still hand drafts. I am trying to bring their drawings in via the Snapshot Tool in Adobe Acrobat and pasting into AutoCAD 2013 so I can overlay the structural notes in paperspace. And then send to plot making .pdf files. The thing is, some of the viewports are showing up in the plot and some are not. All settings in the properties pane are the same. All are on Layer 0.
how to un-link and ole object (pdf) in 2013. Also, how do I insert it without it linking. The insert ole dialogue box gives an option to link or not, but then it will not insert the pdf.
I have surface (that appears to be watertight) that I created with meshlab. I would liek to import it to AutoCAD and create a solid where this surface is cut out of it (e.g. I'd be left with a imprint that looks like the surface).
What I've done so far:
- I've exported a dxf file from Meshlab.
- It's unopenable by AutoCAD, so I import into SketchUp and export as dwg, whcih can now be opened by AutoCAD.
- I've tried convtosolid to try to convert the mesh to a solid. Additionally, subtract doesn't quite work.
I suspect this is related to the type of object the imported dwg is (is it a mesh or a surface?). how to proceed with my goals.
I have a Tiff file and it is constantly trying to jump from the background to the foreground… I have tried putting it on layer and locking the layer in 2012 but this is no longer working in 2013.
I use object grouping for several different things in AutoCAD. With the release of ACAD 2013 I occasionally get the following message upon opening a drawing:
Associative Network Evaluation Error
The object cannot be resolved or value limit has been exceeded.
Inconsistent associative objects my display geometry and grips incorrectly and update in unexpected ways when edited. You can undo to restore the associative object to its previous state.Upon receiving this message, all groups have been removed from the drawing.
My Acad experience is very old-school, and I have been away from true Autocad for a number of years.
I have been attempting to edit the properties of objects in the block editor and ran into a problem.
+ I select an object. + Right-click and choose Properties. + A list of properties is displayed, but they are not for the object I am trying to edit.
I did a test by selecting the object and using the command prompt, used the CHPROP command to change the objects color. It did change color as expected.
However, when I used the right-click/properties method, the properties shown do not show the new color. So, I suspect that my right-click/properties method is not showing me the object's properties. But, rather the default properties when any new objects are created.
So, obviously right-clicking is not the way to get there. What am I missing?
I often have lines drawn on top of other lines and need to cycle thru them to select the correct one. I always did this before upgrading to 2013 by holding the CTRL key and clicking on the lines. That doesn't seem to work on this version. I saw some recomenedations to hold the CTRL key and space bar at the same time but that still doesn't seem to work.It would be a huge time waste if I have to turn off layers everytime to just get to 1 line that I need to offset.
I am creating flat patterns of sheet metal parts and i would like cad to do some calculations for me.
For example when i am creating an object , be it a rectangle or simply a line , i dont want to have to work out my sizes on the calculator then input the size to create the object. I would like cad to do the sum for me by inputting my sum straight into the dimension of the object i am creating. E.g CLick rectangle, select a start point and type 1200-375+37+37+10+10, Then tabbing to do a similar thing for the width
The way i draw flat patterns is to start with the overall size then chop into that shape to create a finished pattern. I also have used Inventor and a software for cnc punching called Cadman. Both of these programs you can do this and what with Inventor also being a creation of autodesk i would have thought this could be done in cad as well.
Is there an add on or a simple command that will let me do this.
I've tried to import a dwg file that was created by someone else but I'm having a hard time editing it. I can scale it and move it and things like that, but if i wish to change the height. I tried scaling it, but it messes up the object. The object I am trying to shorten is a measuring rack on this site [URL].......
I can't change the objects height. Perhaps it's because it's a block reference or something. I've tried editing the block itself, but i have no luck in trying to edit the height. I cant splice it either.
I've attached the file im trying to change the height of.
I really like the object snap tracking feature to snap between 2 points intersecting but I find it overly sensitive and hard to get it right the first time.
Is there a way to turn down the sensitivity? I use this feature frequently.
I am using AutoCAD MAP 3D and attempting to hatch an object. However when I click the hatch command I am getting an error in the command line _k Unknown Command 'k' Press F1 for Help.
Is there a way of resolving this or a list of things to test.
I’ve got a student version (AutoCAD for Mac 2013) , which I got from official website. There starting to appear few problems after a few months of my work.
1. when I’m doing a rectangle, lines that intersect or just lines that contact, in the point of connection appear small blue rectangles and windows of mistakes. If I trying to move only one element of this object, all others elements start to deform in chaotic way.
2. when I’m coping any object on the same page in one file, program start to buzz and I need to close the program despotic.
In the attached file there is a single 3D solid object. But there seems to be several unconnected lines, out in space, that are part of the object, but un editable. By selecting individual edges (on the problem geometry) edges on the solid are also being selected.
With the Isolate Object command is it possible to have the objects that get hidden remain in the workspace "faded" like when editing a reference in place?
