AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Points Names Without Assigning Point Numbers
Jun 15, 2009I'm trying to import a GPS coordinate file where our Surveyor has used both Points Names (Alpha-Numeric) and Point Numbers. see below. I have setup a Point File Format for Pname, North, East, Elev and RAW Description, to import this comma separated point file. The problem is that Civil 3D does not want to seem to use a numeric point name as a Point Number, instead the number is used as a Point name and Civil 3D assigns a Point number from the next availible point number. Is it possible to automatically, when the Point Name is a numer only to also assign it the same value as the Point Names?
I would really want Civil 3D to allow users to use Both, Point Names without assigning a Point number.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Assign A Set Of Points A Sequence Of Point Numbers
Jan 17, 2012What I wish to do is to assign a set of points a sequence of point numbers (or custom properties) of my choosing. For example, I have the following points:

102
104
105
107
I wish to assign point 100 -> 1000, 105 to 1001, 107 to 1002, 104 -> 1003, and 102 ->1004. Basically, I am looking for a command or utility that implements the "TCOUNT" (using select-order) command, but for Cogo points instead of text. The renumber points command appears to only work with offsets, and does not eliminate gaps. I can sequence the points if I select the points I want, then copy them -> set duplicate points to sequence from the range I choose, but this does not allow for reordering of point numbers. I tried individually selecting them in the order I wanted, but didn't change the order in which they were numbered.
Alternatively, I can leave the point numbers the same, and assign a user defined property that I can use to sequence the points in the order of my choosing. However, I'm not sure how to go about assigning the sequence I wish short of typing in each value individually; obviously non-ideal.
A third possibility that presented itself to me was to create new, correctly sequenced points that overlap exactly with the old ones, and then somehow merge the two sets together. Would there be a way to merge the old points and the new ones based on the fact that the two points have the same X-Y coordinates? Preferably done in CAD itself; the last resort would be to export both sets of points out to excel, then do some fancy manipulation in excel, then reimport into CAD.

Jan 7, 2013I know that there is a limitation on the numbers of points added to a surface from a point cloud. But I'm curious how Civil 3D determines which points to exclude from the surface. Is there a special alorithm/criteria the software uses?

Jan 11, 2013I setup a dwg with all of my annotations sized just right for model and paper, but when I XREF them to my dwg that has all of my sheets to plot. The points look the same on my model tab, but when I go to layout the points are huge. I then made sure I had the same styles and drawing settings in both dwgs.

May 16, 2013I am trying to find out if there is a way to change the code for the Corridor Section Points Report. See attachment.
In page 1 of the attachment you will see the names that we prefer for the different zones in our assembly as per our Standards.
On page 2 is the default names that C3D spits out as defaults (under String Cut).
We are running C3D 2012.

Sep 25, 2013there are some points in my dwg that I can't move. I can rotate but not move. I noticed in the point file the ones that I can't move have a grey square in the cell with the point number and the ones I can move have an empty circle. How do I change the square to a circle?

Under my survey database in Survey Points I hit EDIT POINTS and it brings up the SURVEY POINTS EDITOR. My points are listed as white observed points but when I click on the description cell it won't allow me to change anything.

as the points are labeled with their elevations, I couldn’t find how the number of the decimal places of the elevation be chosen. In this case, I wanted to let the number of the decimal places to be zero.
How to set the number of the decimal places to be zero or 1, for example? how to sepcify it height (size)?

Nov 3, 2012I want to know why I can't change coordinate of points while importing points from Points menu?
I created new file, assigned any coordinate system to the model. Opened Import points windows there, created new file format which there I assigned Coordinate zone transform to the coordinate system of the text file and imported my text file. But the coordinates of points didn't changed or transformed. When I do it by Survey in Toolspace its works good. I want to know whether I did any wrong or it is problem of software.
I use AutoCADCivil 2013 64 bit in Windows 7 64 bit!
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Points Creation / Change Default Local Coordinates Permanently?
Sep 27, 2012I often create points manually. You get that dialogue box where you choose the layer and the default local coordinates, etc etc.
The local coordinates setting always defaults to Northing/Easting. (ditto the grid coordinates).
I set it to Easting/Northing as is standard around these parts and do my points, but if I close the box, when I reopen it to add more points later, it is back to Northing/Easting.
I cannot find a variable to control this behaviour.
I never need points to have north first and would like it to default to Easting/Northing at all times. Yes I'm using the Metric template.
Is there a way to change this default?

Mar 5, 2013I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?

The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

Apr 10, 2013I have a project that was started by leaving all the survey data inside the "All Points" group. So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.
What should I do?

Dec 15, 2013I have an AutoCAD map 3d 2014 .dwg with points that have object data and Easting, Northing and elevation values.
I am displaying the text of those points in particular the elevation value. This is done through task pane>data>add drawing layer>add style>text...
I hit the properties and select the Z1 from the object properties...
All is well and the text comes as e.g. 24.89752
The above number is accurate, however, I only want two or three decimal points since the number is too long.
Is there a way to reconfigure this so that the number is displayed as 24.89?

Dec 21, 2012I have a drawing that draws from a .dxf template, this drawing is for a piece that travels along on a basket. Often times there's more than one "traveler" so in order for me to differentiate each traveler I added an "XX of XX" on the template, the XX's referring to the traveler number and the total travelers (i.e. 01 of 03).
Before I print out the sheet I have to replace the XX's with the real numbers then I can print it, so if theres 45 travelers i have manually click each time and then type the number in, 01 of 45, 02 of 45, 03 of 45... 45 of 45. Is there a way I can get this process automated like where I'm asked how many sheets I need then it automatically populates the sheet?

Feb 20, 2012I am trying to link my parts list to a drawing however all balloons have different numbers.
I open the assembly and check everything out from vault I open my bom and change item numbers. When I get back to my drawing and apply for auto balloon I get completely different item numbers in my balloons. We just updated our software to a new 2012 version so it's maybe something with set up.

I have been told to have each lift on a seperate layout and each layout list each shot starting at 1. AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Restarting Table Tag Numbers?
Aug 23, 2013We use tags on lines labeled L1, L2 etc... for roads and pipelines (for legal/right of way purposes). We may have multiple lines to describe (differernt section/land owner) and need to start back at L1.
Is there a way to automatically start back at L1 rather than it starting at a higher number and having to reset the number one at a time? Get's quite tedious when you have multiple lines needing number with say lay 20-30 segments.

One way to do it is to select a COGO point to bring up the COGO Point Contextual menu tab. In COGO Point Tools you can select List Available Point Numbers.

Apr 24, 2012I creating plan and sections from my model. I went through my Create View Frames, and created my sheets fine. But one thing I cannot seem to fix, I am starting from Sheet 10, not sheet 1, so I need my match line to start at sheet 10, then up from there. Whats the setting I need to change for this? I have set all counters to start from 10, but the first match line still says sheet 1 i have attached an image of the matchline.
