AutoCAD Inventor :: Balloon Numbers Don't Match BOM Item Numbers
Feb 20, 2012
I am trying to link my parts list to a drawing however all balloons have different numbers.
I open the assembly and check everything out from vault I open my bom and change item numbers. When I get back to my drawing and apply for auto balloon I get completely different item numbers in my balloons. We just updated our software to a new 2012 version so it's maybe something with set up.
I am putting balloons on an assembly drawing, but the circle is not appearing. The arrow, leader and number are there, but no circle. What could be wrong?
So I'm playing around with Inventors Tube and Pipe to show how to do all of our flexible hose routing throuh our chassis. It is a large assemblly with alot of hoses, so it will take multiple views to show how to route all the hoses. I have done all the routing, but am now looking at how to document it.
I have the parts list setup to show each individual run. So for example if my assembly had two runs, my parts list would look like the following:
1..........59".......6295645.................Gladhand to filter hose
2..........120"......6295645................Filter to Control Valve hose
Now my idea is to show a couple of ISO views on the front page, along with the parts list. On the ISO views I would make a bunch of Detail Views on the following sheets, and then in each detail view, I will use balloons to identify which lines are which.
Now say ther eare a dozen pages, I don't want people to search all 12 pages just to find which detail views Item 1 shows up in. Is there any way to automatically show in the Parts List that Item 1 is shown on pages 1,2,3,6,7,9,12 and that Item 2 is shown on pages 2,3,5,7,10,11,12? This list would populate based on which sheets have a balloon for that given item number.
Any better way to document hose runs in a large assembly? In the end the goal is so that someone could pick up the drawing package, know they are running the "Gladhand to Filter hose", find it in the parts list, and then flip to the appropriate pages that show how to route that hose.
The attached picture is me trying to balloon a part. I would like to just add some notes to the balloon so that I can update them manually but all I can find is to have a symbol. So I created a symbol, the insertion point for the symbol is shown. For some reason I get an extra number and the symbol offcenter. Why is this happening? What I'm really looking for is a balloon that is fully customizable so that I can just add text to the top and bottom and fill out the details.
I have subroutine that retrieves a list of detail numbers in a drawing. Sometimes there are missing numbers. I am looking to find a list of any missing numbers.
Example -
(setq List_DN (list 1 2 3 5 6 7 10 11 12 17))
Missing numbers are - 4,8,9,13,14,15,16
I would like a subroutine to take the List_DN are return the following missing numbers as text
Is there a way to sync callout numbers to correspond with note numbers. When I add or delete notes in my drawings it takes to much time to update the callout number in the drawings. I need to figure out a way for the note and corresponding callout to change at the same time.
I hereby have a school note report from my little brother. He told me he had some bad notes in his last period and I would like to make a fake copy of it.
Basically, I scanned his 3th period notes and I would like to change some and add some
How you can remove numbers and add new ones over it and add numbers with the same digital code used on the old ones to put those in empty notes
I created a hatched sketch on one of my views to represent filler material. I want to balloon to this hatched area, but it want grab it. I have the filler material setup as a custom part. I can also create a sketched symbol for this, but it doesn't appear that they would accept it either.
I am currently running Inventor 2010 Build 272, Release: 2010-sp3
Using Inventor 11...How do I change change the balloon (item 40) to read qty of 2? There are 4 total in the assembly, but this particular balloon only shows where 2 are, and another item 40 balloon will show where the other 2 are.
How do I pick a part to balloon it when the line is actually two parts beside each other? eg a wall sheet welded to a square column. I can 'toggle" between the two but am unable to pick the other part so continually get the item balloon for the part I don't want.
Curious, I am trying to get numbers 'engraved' (extruded) into a diameter of a dial ring. I was able to create a couple of planes to create the marking lines around the OD, but am unsure how to add numbers and extrude said numbers (in the easiest fashion possible). I need to go from 0 to 90 on the longest marking that starts at 0° and is every 36°.
Also, that being said, with the little I tried and was unhappy with, I created a text box at the 0° marker but the text was in the wrong rotation the marker and rotation box was greyed out. How can I resolve this...or is it even related?
I have an assembly made of three parts. There is ilogic in place to rearrange these parts in the assembly. The part numbers change depending on how the puts are arranged and there length. The part numbers come up fine in the assembly ( i have a window popping up to show them). However when i open the BOM the separate parts are listed but not with there part number just with there file name.
I have several sheets w/in a drawing. Some of the sheets are titled sheet 2A, 2B, etc. I'd like to be able to do this w/o needing several title blocks. what becomes sheet 3 is now sheet 5. How do I offset the sheet numbers?
When I do a detailed set of drawings I first start with the overall and ballon the part showing the BOM. The following pages will reflect the detailed parts balloned on the first page. Is there a way, without haveing to manually type in the BOM, to reference which page this detail is on in the BOM?
I have a face plate with strokes on it to represent pressure increments.I cannot get the numbers onto the face plate. On the large stroke it starts at 0 and goes to 9 .. How do i add the numbers. Also i used extrusions for the increment strokes with circular patterns and mirror features. Is this how it should be modeled?
I'm currently learning Inventor and going through the tutorials. At present I am learning about drawings. For some reason the scale (e.g 1:1) and dimension numbers do not appear in the drawings. I can see the arrows that make the dimensions but that is all. How to turn these on? I have tried every setting I can find but it appears that I can't figure this out.
I have several sketched symbols that I use with references to various properties embedded in them. Once of these is a sketch block that picks up the part number, description and so on. In order to get this to work, I place the sketch block and drag the leader to point to the part.
For assemblies the process clearly needs to be different. If I have various parts and assemblies shown on one sheet, how can I use a sketched symbol to pick up the ASSEMBLY number from one of the view.
Parts are fine (as explained above), but when I place a sketched symbol and do not attach the leader it picks up on the part number of the first component / assembly placed on the sheet.
I would like to have a sketched symbol reference a specific assembly, and list all its properties (i.e. part number, description, mass and so on).
Is there a way to do this? Please consider there could be more than one view on the sheet that has an assembly (or a part for that matter). I think I am looking for a way to link the sketched symbol to the assembly or specific view.

I would like to use the if else parameter in iLogic to set up a range, but I'm not getting it right.
What should happen:
if the variable 'breedte' is:
- 0 up to 3800; thats OK
- 3800 up to 4000; thats not OK, use 3800 instead
- 4000 and up; thats OK
Therefore I wrote this script, but when I enter a number between 3800 and 4000 (like 3900), the MessageBox appears (thats good), but the size of my solid results in 3900, instead of 3800.
breedte = InputBox("What is the breedte?", "Hoofdmaten", "")Parameter("skelet.ipt.breedte")=breedteIf breedte <= 3800 Then breedte = breedteElse If breedte >= 4000 Then breedte = breedteElse If (breedte >= 3801) AndAlso (breedte <= 4000) Then breedte = 3800 MessageBox.Show("This breedte is not possible." & hoogte & vbCr & "The value of 3800 will be used instead.", "Problem message", MessageBoxButtons.OKCancel, MessageBoxIcon.Asterisk) End If
How to etch numbers in sheet metal? Can I use text in an ipt and extrude this?
Is it possible to save as dxf with etch lines in a different color? I didn't find a possibility to change color in the Layer DXF Export Options or must this be done in Autocad?
I am trying to add sheet numbers to my template for my document. I know I have to use the Sheet Properties, Sheet Number then Drawing Properties, Number of Sheets but I cannot remember how to do this? I am using IV 2010. There used to be a Properties Field icon, but now I cannot find it? I RMB on the title block, select "Edit", then selected the location of the property, then selected Sheet Properties, Sheet Number, but nothing shows up.
Having problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.
Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?
I want to reset the number for the sketches, extrusions, etc. in the browser tree of my template file to start with 01 instead of sketch48 and extrusion69.
I also want to reset the model parameters to start with d0 instead of d485.
The attached image show an example of a simple cylinder that I created from my .ipt template file.
The balloon tip that pops up is just an explanation of what the item is for or what it does when selected. I think I would be pretty safe in guessing that whenever a balloon tip appears there is a help button to go to any particular item. How these things can be disabled or turned off. I did find somewhere, a while ago, a way to edit the registry. But that was when I was using Windows XP.
Now I'm using Windows 7 and the only place these balloons get under my skin is in AutoCad. Which is vanilla AutoCad version 2010. I guess I have to give up trying to insert an image. I have a *.jpg file but no matter what folder I put it in this "insert image" function don't or can't see it for some reason.
I have several lifts of dirt. I have 50 shots on each lift, but the shots on each lift are in different locations. I have been told to have each lift on a seperate layout and each layout list each shot starting at 1. Is there a way I can show Lift 1 with point numbers 1-50 and Lift 2 with point numbers 1-50 in the same dwg?
How can I draw lines with numbers in autocad that represents sizes of other lines (I don't know how to call them on English) ? For example on this pic lines with numbers 50, 60, etc.
We use tags on lines labeled L1, L2 etc... for roads and pipelines (for legal/right of way purposes). We may have multiple lines to describe (differernt section/land owner) and need to start back at L1.
Is there a way to automatically start back at L1 rather than it starting at a higher number and having to reset the number one at a time? Get's quite tedious when you have multiple lines needing number with say lay 20-30 segments.
