New to AutoCAD. Designing a building in plan. Then used the plan to draw a section in new layer, but still in plan view. Is there a way to copy that section onto a new layer in front view and erase the old section layer? .

I have several paperspace tabs on my drawing. When I create a new layer on the drawing, I have to go to every tab and viewport to turn on or off the new layer. Is there a way to create a layer that is turned off in all the drawing viewports and tabs. Then, I only have to go to the paperspace tab and viewport I want the layer to be seen and turn it on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) in the DWG of my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 project. I grouped these 8 points into 2 Point Groups: Point Group 1-high depth has Points #1, #3, #5, #7, and Point Group 2-low depth has #2, #4, #6, #8. I changed the 2D Wireframe to 3D Wireframe and on TOP view I saw Point Group 1 is on the top of Point Group 2 (because the 2 Point Groups have the same values of X- and Y-coordinates with different Z(elevation) value - see the first attached file. How can I change the TOP view to the TOP-FRONT view by using some Command to get this fixed TOP-Front view thar has the good separation of the 2 depths as shown in the second attached file?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing where I need to open the layer manager to turn on a layer in a view port but cannot get to that particular column. As you look across the top of the layer manager I can see all the headings of each column beginning with "Name", "Status", "On" and so forth. The last column heading I see is "Description" but I need to go even further to the right to get to the column I need to be at but can't get there. There is no scroll button on the bottom of the layer manager which would allow me to do that.

I have never gotten this to work, but had put little effort into it until recently. Thus far I have checked my project standards to make sure "match sheet views to view" is checked to "yes".
In both View drawing and the sheet- VISRETAIN is set to 1.

I am working on drawings that are in my current project through project navigator. I am using ACA 2010 and not sure what else I need to do. I turn off all the unwanted layers in the view drawing, then create a sheet and xref in the view to model space- all the layers reset, and I again have to turn off all the unwanted layers. If I change a layer color in the view drawing, it does not change in the sheet drawing upon save and refresh.
I hate wasting time repeating the same task over and over....
i draw up all of my walls, i connect them properly, cleanup etc. then i want to trim them with my roof slabs and what i see? i see my walls suddenly dissappear in 3d view but are still correctly shown on plan view? i know it has something to do with roofline because when i tried to project them automatically to ontu my roof slabs the walls dissappeared too!

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am looking to see if I missed a setting somewhere. I have hunted extensively, but the ability to set a view to a specific layer seems to be unavailable. What I woudl liek to be able to do is define the layer that the viewport is inserted on when I bring a view into a sheet using the sheetset manager. I love this system, but it does slow me down in that regard. If there is a setting or preference that I can switch to make that happen or am I going to have to write something to do it for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my template, is there a way to setup a layer filter or layer state to automatically plot a different viewport color when a new drawing is created and viewports are made? Note, my template does not have viewports premade.
I've set all my Existing and Proposed Utilities to use the WV Miss Utility colors, but I designated either pale (odd color#) for existing and bold (even color#) for proposed so that in model space there's a visual difference. See a few examples below:
V-SSWR-PIPE (color 91)
V-WATR-PIPE (color 151)
C-SSWR-PIPE (color 92)
C-WATR-PIPE (color 152)
Our Civil dept doesn't use colors, but our Utility dept does occasionally especially when Aerials are used.
When we create layouts/viewports in a drawing, it would be nice to have viewport layer colors automatically be set to plot black or gray or be on/off depending on existing conditions sheet or proposed site plan sheet. The only way I know of is if I would set up viewports inside my template with VP Color Overrides preset and/or VP freezes for certain layers, which I'm hesitant in doing.
When I save layer states overrides for a certain view port and mane it e.g. "K", in layer state manager current layer state is shown as "K", but when I change layout and come back to this one, in layer state manager current layer state is shown as *UNSAVED* again!!!
This results in a great problem. If I update layer state "K" it does not update all view ports that should have layer state "K" automatically so I have to go trough all of them again and apply "K" again and again after any change to "K" is made.

If there was a way to retain original object layer properties when in base view. IE I have 4 layers, each with a different color. I would like to create a base view, and still keep the object layer colors. Is there a work around for this? Or should I just do an elevation and work through VP's?

- in model space
- 3 model space view ports (ai_tiledvp 3 "_V")
- different layer state visible in each view port OR different saved view visible in each view port.
I cannot for the life of me figure it out. At the moment, every time i change the layer state (or saved view) in one view port, it changes in all 3 view ports so that they all show the exact same thing.
I have experience making 3D models in Vectorworks but have never used 3D in AutoCAD. I am using 2014 version. I understand the principle of UCS and the idea behind it but am really struggling to use it.
Currently I am trying to use two viewports, one in top view and one in front view.
I am trying to use the two to ensure I am placing objects in the correct place in relation to everything else. However...how comes when I move something up or down in front view it moves completely out of position in top view? surely if i'm moving the object up or down it should not effect the position of anything in top view?
I am trying to piece together some code for an ilogic rule. This rule should look for a drawing view that is a flat pattern, if it finds one it should change the object layer to our "CNC" layer.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a problem of net being able to view dimensions in the model space in the current view. i was not paying attention to what view i started the 2d drawing in, but right now it is in the front view. the dimensions lines gets put on a plane that the program has decided and wheather i try to dimension above or below it, it goes to that line. i have also noticed that for some unknown reason the 2d drawing gave itself depth. it is a very large drawing and i have tried to clip parts of it to put on a new drawing it defalts to the front view and i still cannot dimension on it.
I am using arch 2009, and the program did get corrupt during my work and had to reinstall. i have reinstalled several time with the same result. i have tried arch 2011 also with the same result. i think there is a setting that somehow changed and i can't figure out what it is, or should i chalk this up to a program malfunction and start from scratch in a top view (which works fine).
I have managed to find the Top view, Right view and Front view through the Tools>customisation option, but cannot find Left, top or rear view.Where are they?

the 'layers only' toggle of the object manager will go blank; the toggle where the master layer and all objects are listed still works, just the layers only listing goes blank. All files opened after the event will do the same, requires a shutting down of CorelDraw and restart to bring things back to normal.

Ive been using inventor for around 2 months now and its all been going good... ive recently done a rather complex assembly that id rather not redo... unfortunately... i ungrounded the base part fiddling with it trying to find a working constraint set for my needs (evenly spaces cylinders on a base plate and a centered on a mounting plate... i ended up using holes and the cylinders screw holes to align them but still this was AFTER i messed it up)
So now because of that the default view is skewed by roughly 45 degrees or so... now i have set the front view manually to reset the ground plane.... but if i stick this in a dwg as front its as if i did nothing... and yes i have triple check to make sure ive set the front view.
I have a dxf file of a 3d model (cant attach as it exceeds the size limit) that I need to have put in a 2D dwg file. basically I need to flatten it to make a top and front view of the model.
I haven't work in 3d in some time and never worked with dxf files, so I'm not even sure this is possible. I tried opening the dxf in auto cad, but it doesn't seem to find the file..I cant see dxf extensions.
I need to find all instances, references, etc, of a layer and change it to another layer. I'm not talking about lines and objects or even blocks, but more like properties nested inside of wall styles and cleanup definitions, anything like that. I can't use the QSELECT or any similar command because the layer in question is being referenced inside of individual styles (i'm guessing that's the only place).
We drew our interior walls and our exterior shell for our building on two different drawings so that two people could work on them at the same time. They were xref'd into each other. We got to a point where we needed to put them back into one drawing so I binded the Shell Xref into the interior drawing. This saved us a lot of time but now all the layers from the Shell drawing have this prefix to it "01Shell&0&". This isn't really a problem but I'm a bit OCD and it bothers me to have two different layers for the same thing, one regular and one with the prefix. It means everytime we change the properties of a layer, we have to do it twice. I've already changed everything I could back to the original layers but the Shell layers still show up from time to time. They are nested deep inside of wall styles and custom cleanup properties, custom encaps, and so on.

I'm having an issue trying to move the camera view in cs6 extended using a 3d Layer. Here's the idea:
1. Create a 3D Layer extrusion / mesh primitive.
2. I select the current view item in 3D Panel / click outside model.
3. The border frame appears yellow.
4. When I select the Move tool, I can only rotate around the y axis, can't rotate up or down. Can't roll the camera, move or slide either using the other move tool modes.
5. I can adjust the co-ordinates properties for the current view and it works OK.
6. Object /light transforms work OK.
I'm testing on 13.0.1, mac 10.7.4. I had the same problem on another machine on 10.6.8 on v 13.0 last week that fixed itself, but not sure how .
When Googling I found some pages saying that it should be possible to change the order of the layers in Track View with shortcuts, but they don't say how. Can't find anything about this in the customize dialog.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to decipher an image (it's for an online game and I refuse to cheat for the answer!!)
I have a .psd image, that I have opened into layers - see the attached screenshot... It makes far more sense than the long-winded paragraph I just deleted!! All other layers were easy to deal with I just had to click on the eye to make them visible, but the one with the dotted box around it - I can't work out what to do..
So for this troublesome layer, I need to work out how to 'see' whatever is hiding in there. I have played around with lots of things, but the best I get is a white box if I remove the alpha channel.
I don't want to know what the other letters are, just how to find them.

In the context of an animated GIF, or any other context where I have a multilayer image, I would like to see a single one all by itself. How do I do that?
