AutoCAD Architecture :: Xrefs Detached When Files Are Moved To Dropbox

Mar 26, 2012

Our office recently moved all of our project files to the dropbox. Now when I open files with xrefs I have to attach them back into the file. However, this doesn't happen for my coworker. She can see all the xrefs. How could I solve this? The file names or directory has not changed.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Path Xrefs For A Moved Project Folder

What is the best method to re-path x-refs in a project whose folder has been moved. We are talking about 60-100 x-refs here. The originals were created in ACA 2009 and were not pathed relatively; nor was Project Navigator used. We are currently using ACA 2014.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Moved Cui Files

Nov 9, 2013

I loaded ACA 2014, then customized it with my old .cuix files so all would be 'normal' for me. When I open ACA now I get the following message:

"An executable file was found outside of the specified trusted locations.  What do you want to do?"

followed by the choice of 'load' or 'don't load' in a dialogue. (does this for every .mnl file)

My question is, "Can you set something somewhere to tell ACA to load these each time without the dialogue?" This happens every time I open the program. You'd think after I've got it all set and saved my profile and set my workspace, etc. that ACA would figure it out that I 'trust' these executable files.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Xrefs To Stay Attached To A Drawing File / When Using Dropbox As Network?

Mar 11, 2013

Is there a way for xrefs to stay attached to a drawing file when using Dropbox as a network?  All files are saved to the dropbox which is loaded on both computers that need to access the files.  If I do work and save an xref in a file that is then opened by someone else on a different computer, the xref is not loaded and has to be re-routed.  Is there a way to avoid having to reroute xrefs everytime someone different opens the file?

AutoCAD Architecture :: Recover Files And Xrefs In 2013

Apr 15, 2013

I'm using Autocad 2013. My problem is when i use "recover files & xrefs", all the files recovered are saved as a 2013 dwg version. As we all save our files here as 2007 version so when others opened the files they are getting some of the xref files missing in the drawing.

Is there any option to save files in a lower version when i recover?

AutoCAD Architecture :: Opening Files That Are Being Used As Xrefs In Other Drawings

Jan 26, 2012

I've recently run into a problem that involves xrefs.  Basically, I cannot open files that are being xrefed in other drawings when those drawings are currently open.  AutoCAD Architecture will only allow me to open the xrefed file as a read-only version.  For example:

I have 1ST FLOOR PLAN (drawing file) xrefed into A-201.00 FIRST FLOOR PLAN (sheet file).  If one of my team members has the sheet file open with the drawing file loaded, then AutoCAD will only let me open the drawing file as a read-only file.  But if my team member has the sheet file open with the drawing file unloaded, then I can open the drawing file without any problems.

I have never had this type of problem with xrefs before and so I'm wondering if it's an AutoCAD Architecture 2012 bug.

AutoCad :: Updating Xrefs Which Has Moved Base Point

Oct 3, 2012

I would like to easily update an xref which has moved base point. I work doing mechanical and electrical drawings and we draw our stuff with the Architect's background xref 'd in. Sometimes though, they will change the base point for no reason and all the m&e stuff is miles away. There are two things I can do, I can moved their xref they sent us to match the old location or I can move the m&e stuff to suit the new location (i normally do this because i want to use their base point which is the right thing to do, but i would have to move all the things in all the m&e drawings to suit). Is it better to update an xref that has moved base point but without all the hassle?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Uses Dropbox As Server For All Of Working Files

Jan 4, 2013

My office uses Dropbox as a server for all of our working files. I can create and work with CAD files (using many x-refs) without a problem. The problem that I have occurs whenever someone else in the office tries to use the CAD file that I created with x-refs OR whenever I use a different computer station (still logged in as myself)...the X-refs are always missing (detached).  I can reattach them but this defeats the purpose of using the X-ref. how Dropbox works.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Viewports Can't Be Moved / Modified

Jan 12, 2012

I am using AutoCAD Architecture 2011. I have been working in a drawing for several weeks on casework. I have multiple viewports on my sheet layouts. Up until now I was able to select the viewports and move them or make them bigger or smaller with grip edit but now although I see them I can't select them or even delete them. I can double click within the viewport and change the scale or modify the items in the viewport but I can't do anything to the viewport in paper space.

I have turned all the layers on and made sure that none of them were locked. I have tried regen. I have opened a new tab and tried to create new viewports and I have the same problem. I can create them but once I do I can't modify / move them.

Beyond that when I switch from model to paper space it takes about 5 min. sometimes longer to switch and the same thing when I save it or close it. Is that normal?

AutoCAD Architecture :: Xrefs Disappearing From Views

Sep 12, 2011

We are using ACA2010 and use the project navigator to bring constructs into views then bring the views into sheets, which has been working great, but in the last few months we have gone to a sheet only to find that the view no longer contains the constructs. I was working on a project on Friday and the Site Plan view no longer had the site xrefed into it which I fixed, now today the Site Plan is fine but the Roof Plan is empty. This is not the 1st project this has happened to but it is the 1st time it has happened to me so I know nobody changed something they should not have. Is there a known bug in 2010 or something I should check. I don't want this to happen to the Floor Plan if it does I will lose all my dimensions.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Disappearing XRefs - Registry Settings?

If we have both the Xref and the File that it is referenced into open on one of the computers here and we reload, the Xref disappears.  If we do an undo and close the Xref it reloads without problem.

I tried to replace the user profile from another PC that doesn’t have the problem, but it didn’t work. Is there a Registry setting that cause this behavior?  All stations set to “Enabled with copy”

AutoCAD Architecture :: Tags Of Objects Through XRefs - Making Correct?

Nov 15, 2013

When an object in an XRef is tagged (and the object has an object based PSD) the tag will not update to reflect changes made in the XRef.

This can be fixed in the XRef by running the PropertyDataBrowser command and unticking the Overrides (shown in the leftmost tickbox when two tick boxes present).

Any automatic way to keep the tags up to date? I have attached my VB.Net code attempt for this.  It almost works BUT the MultiViewBlock Overrides are ReadOnly.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Unusual Results When Binding Xrefs Using Insert Method

Aug 3, 2011

Using ACA 2012 and Windows 7 Pro x64. I have a drawing with two viewports. In one I'm showing the electrical layers and the base floor plan. In the other I'm showing casework and the base floor plan. All of the layers are contained in one xref so some are frozen in each viewport. When I bind that xref using the insert method (bindtype=1) some of the electrical layers show in the casework plan. I've tried everything I know of but I can't figure out how to surpress this behavior. If I use bindtype=0 the problem goes away but I end up with ugly layer names.

AutoCAD Architecture :: How To Stop Xrefs From Duplicating When Copy Other Line Work

Nov 4, 2011

I am having several problems with my xrefs.  My two big problems are xrefs bringing in way more information than I want, and they are duplicating if they are selected, even when I have the xref layers locked.

My set up is this:

I have a plan file, a grid line file, an elevation file, and a section file.

I want all files to be referenced to each other.  However, I do not want duplicates of any xref.  For instance, in my section drawing, I will reference my plan file which consequently brings in any file that is referenced in the plan file.  I know that I will get the circular reference warning and that I can click continue.  However, is there any way I can just get "1 degree of nesting"?

Second, I cannot figure out how to lock my xrefs to prevent them from constantly being selected.  My problem is that in my live drawing information, if I select everything within my window and an xref is in that window, it will be copied.  I don't ever want to duplicate my xrefs, but I can't find a way to lock them (even when locking xref layers).

Lightroom :: How To Relink Files Moved And Renamed Outside Of LR

Mar 20, 2013

When I first started using LR, I converted several folders full of CR2s that had been imported into LR to .dng using the stand-alone DNG Converter and then used the OSX Finder to move those folders to my archive drives. (For those beginners following along - don't do this!!)

I want to re-link LR to those files but find that I need to do the relink routine one file at a time (instead of being able to use the "find nearby missing photos") because LR is looking for an exact match of filename + extension instead of just filename. The problem is that the files on the archve drive have a .dng extension and LR is looking for a .CR2 extension.

Is there a way of having LR look for just the filename? Perhaps a script of some sort?

3000 files to relink - one at a time is not a happy prospect.

(Of course, now I do everything from within LR. Live and learn!)

3ds Max :: Doesn't Import Xrefs Of DWG Files

Dec 5, 2013

When I try to import dwg with xrefs I see only the dwg without it´s xrefs. I tried the "import" function because the same thing doesn´t work with "manage links" function. I created a very imple drawing to resolve it. A dwg with a simple box in it and a linked xref, with a sphere. In the import file dialog I check the xref option. Both files are in the same directory, I tried it with local and network paths. When I move the xref to another folder (so that AutoCAD can´t find it) in MAX doesn´t come up the "Resolve External Reference Dialog".

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Xref Has Multiple References - Not Detached

Apr 8, 2013

I know the difference between attach and overlay for reference files.

The problem here is that the xref IS attacehd as an overlay and I am still not able to detach it.

I am working on WisDOT transportation plans.  For those that are not familiar with these projects, certain reference files must plot black in some plan sections, but grey in others.  When we submit the plans to the utility companies, all utilities must be black. but are grey in everyother submittal.  I changed the xref level attributes to plot black with the intensions of detaching the xref and reattaching to revert back to the orignial grey level attributes.  Is there anyway that changing the level attributes is somehow not letting the xref be detached?
