AutoCAD 2010 :: Xrefs To Stay Attached To A Drawing File / When Using Dropbox As Network?
Mar 11, 2013
Is there a way for xrefs to stay attached to a drawing file when using Dropbox as a network? All files are saved to the dropbox which is loaded on both computers that need to access the files. If I do work and save an xref in a file that is then opened by someone else on a different computer, the xref is not loaded and has to be re-routed. Is there a way to avoid having to reroute xrefs everytime someone different opens the file?
I have files that contain only XREFs, some have up to 20. When I try to use etransmit to share these files, the paths are still looking for the network and not the contents of the zip file. They are all Overlays Full path
I swear that it worked before but I cannot replicate it.I cannot share the zipped file with anyone not connected to our network as all references are lost.
Our office recently moved all of our project files to the dropbox. Now when I open files with xrefs I have to attach them back into the file. However, this doesn't happen for my coworker. She can see all the xrefs. How could I solve this? The file names or directory has not changed.
A customer of ours sent us a drawing that has a TIF file attached to it. Inside the TIF all the objects appear red (we plot with a ctb) but no matter what we do, all the TIFs objects plot with really thick lineweight.
I´ve been using eTransmit command in previous versions, now that I´ve switched to v2012 there´s no longer support to save all dwg xrefs as dwg references in the eTransmit popup window. My dwg xrefs are instead attached as blocks.
I'm using AutoCAD 2013 64 bit and MS Visual Basic 2010 Express (and Excel 2007), and I'm trying to write VB.NET code to list all xrefs attached to a group of drawings. The list of drawings is in column 1 of an Excel spreadsheet, and I want to list all xref filenames in columns 2 onwards - one row per drawing.
The Excel part works fine. I just wish it was as easy to extract information from DWG files.
I created a "Windows Form Application" project in VB 2010 and added a button to Form1. Clicking on the button runs the code.
When adding references I added "Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library" COM for Excel (as per Excel website tutorial), and "acdbmgd.dll" and "acmgd.dll" (both with Copy Local=False) as per AutoDesk .NET tutorial. But I got warning messages saying Acdbmgd.dll and Acmgd.dll target a different processor. Is this different to the Excel COM target processor, or do I need to change the target processor for the whole project (and if so, how)?
I tried adding "AutoCAD 2013 Type Library" COM reference instead of "acdbmgd.dll" and "acmgd.dll" which got rid of the target processor warning messages, and I could then open the dwg files successfully, but still the project crashes.
Here's the code so far...
Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
' do I need to include Imports for AutoCAD here? Various websites list AutoDesk.AutoCAD... imports here, but AutoDesk isn't an available option when I try adding this here - maybe because I have the wrong references?
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code]....
When I run the project I also get a "A first change exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in MyProject.exe" message. How can I rectify this?
Currently it crashes when it gets to the cadDwg.Database.Blocks line saying "Call was rejected by callee. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010001 (RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED))".
The xlsx file and the dwg files refered to in the xlsx file all exist. I've tried running it both with AutoCAD 2013 running and with AutoCAD 2013 not running. Still doesn't work
I feel so close, but what am I missing? I haven't downloaded the "ObjectARX for AutoCAD 2013 (32-bit and 64-bit)" from AutoDesk yet because (i) I have to get a licence, and (ii) it's a very large file, and (iii) I seem to be able to open drawing files without it, but just not access the data I want in the files.
I've got 1500+ drawings to look at by the end of the week. If this doesn't work it's back to AutoLisp (and maybe script files, but that's another headache).
I am trying to rig a HumanIK character so that both of his hands will stay attached to an object (gun, sword, bat, golf club, etc.). I can get the object parented to one of the hands and it follows along as expected, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the other hand to automatically stay attached to the object or follow it.
I've tried parent, point, orientation, etc., constraints using locators, the IK effector itself (wrist) and a few other things. It seems the HumanIK programming keeps a firm hold on the effectors and won't let anything other than the software drive them.
My HumanIK rig is properly setup and its definition locked. Using Maya 2013.
We have 13 machines that are identical hardware and software; Windows 7 and the Autodesk Product Design Suite 2012 as well as the Vault 2012 Client. Two of these machines are exhibiting the following behavior: Connected to our LAN with access to the internet not loading Vault on startup Inventor loads in 68 seconds.Disconnected from our LAN with no access to the internet not loading Vault on startup Inventor loads in <10 seconds. I have tested this with our AV turned on and off with no changes in the above noted behavior. These two machines loaded Inventor 2011 in repsectable times ~<30 seconds.
Now this tells me that when Inventor is loading it is trying to go somewhere when there is a network connection. But where and what can I do to make it stop?
Currently, we have 3 stand alone license's and are wanting to reinstall AutoCAD 2012 for a network for various reasons. I uninstalled and installed the tools/utilities for a network license file however I just have our 3 stand alone licenses. Can I not use them in a file to be distributed by the server?
I'm trying to figure out if it's practical to use Lightroom to access/manipulate files on network attached storage.
Specifically, suppose I've already generated the 1:1 preview files, and these preview files are on the local hard drive. Does it matter then if the raw files are located physically on a NAS v. on the local hard drive in terms of the speed of Lightroom and ease with navigating from image to image?
I am trying to scan images from HP8600 printer/scanner attached via network. I get this error message "Not enough memoy to complete this action. Please close one or more documents or applications and try again. If this does not correct problem, you can try adjusting the memeory setting in Windows or you can work on a smaller version of the document."
I have already: - rebooted to have a "fresh" copy of Windows 7 - increased the virtual memory from 6GB to 9GB - decreased the scan to 100dpi (from the standard 200 dpi) - tried a different HP8600 - had the HP8600 scan and push the image to the computer (works, but just an average image) - searched the forum - read the PSPX5 bug thread
Have just installed Windows LR4 trial, told it to Import files from my photo collection in a folder + subfolders on a network attached storage (NAS) unit. Windows Explorer tells me that there are 10,308 files in 408 folders in the main folder, totalling 38.8gb but on scanning the folder prior to import LR4 tells me that there are only 9,612 photos.
My photo collection folder contains only photos and no other file types.
Why is there this discrepancy ? I've searched around to see whether there is some hidden filter that is excluding certain photo files but cannot find anything of that nature.
I noticed that my computer was slowing up, BIG time. This thing's got dual quad core Xeon, 12gb DDR3, ATI FireGL V8600, etc. I could hear it processing something constantly and as I was in CAD I couldn't really do anything. When I opened the task manager and looked at the processes, "accoreconsole. exe" (an AutoCAD component) was using 10.5gb of memory. On my performance tab, my memory was maxed at 11.5gb for at least a half hour.
Today, I dealt with it all day long by ending the process whenever I'd notice it on the list of processes, or if the computer suddenly began to lag. I've also been having trouble with Dropbox. Not sure if this would at all be related but, if I try to save a file to a shared dropbox folder, it gets to 81% and freezes with the (Not Responding) message up top. I can save just fine to my network folder though.
I would like to put our company programming on a Dropbox folder. I have not fully tested everything out yet, like locations of lisp files and image name...
One thing I am struggling with is an absolute path in my lisp file:
(setq FL:FLAYTAB "C:\Users\dvanerem\Dropbox\Canova and Stone\Customizations\Autodesk AutoCAD 2010\Programming\OENV-RCP.TAB")(FL:LoadTable)
I am confused how this would work with other users? Or does AutoCAD automatically correct for this?
I am having an issue with adding xrefs to drawings. The way I have this setup is the user inputs information and the number of sheets. This then sets up a sheet set with the information and then for each value for the number of sheets the user gets a dialog askign for a number, name, and description for that sheet.
so if the user puts in 5 as the number of sheets, the user gets that dialog 5 times.
also I have a dialog that asks the user if they are adding xrefs to the sheets, if they answer yes then it adds the xrefs to each sheet that is created (this is where I have an issue).
This works perfect for the first sheet that is added, how ever after you fill in the information and submit for the second sheet autocad gives a fatal exception error and closes. not sure if I am missing on turning something off, closing, or stoping something before the next sheet is created.
here is the code I have at this point:
'checks to see if the dialog was yes If xrefd.DialogResult = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Yes Then 'shows the dialog efd.ShowDialog() 'shows the dialog pfd.ShowDialog() 'runs for each value in total sheets For i As Integer = 1 To info.TotalSheetNum.Value 'shows the dialog sheetinfo.ShowDialog() 'checks to see if the sheet number is 1 If sheetinfo.SheetNum.Text = "1" Then 'sets the sheet set default values SetSheetSetDefaults(ssdb, info.NameTxt.Text, "Description",
It seems that when I use my laptop to add keywords to LRCAT, I wind up with a conflicted copy in my dropbox folder...
Is there some way to reconcile or combine the regular lrcat and the conflicted one? Or do I have to just start using the conflicted one?
I know this all has something to do with waiting for all the files to upload and download to DropBox, and I usually don't have a problem since the 2 machines are rarely in use at once...but sometimes I need to shut down quickly or perhaps I miss part of the transfer, so I'm really just checking to see if there is some way to reconcile when I blow it.
As an engineering company we have started to convert hundreds of our drawings from AutoCAD to PDF using a batch utility.
However every file that is converted into a PDF file is opened by a PDF Viewer. We want to prevent this.
I opened my *.pc3 file and removed the check from the appropriate box. See below
I press OK, then save the file and close. However when I reopen the file, I see the box for Openining in PDF Viewer has been rechecked. No matter what I do, I cannot permanently remove the check from this box.
I have a drawing when attached into another drawing, the coordinates have an exact 500,000 shift in the X value and an exact 200,000 shift in the Y value. Directely in the drawing, the coords are correct. They just won't attach correctly.
I can tell that this drawing was not created with the dwt we use (it is missing certain styles) - I wonder if the dwt could be to blame.
Also, I have been trying to figure the Map functions out with no guidance, I wonder if I somehow changed the attach settings to cause the shift.

I'm preparing plans for individual land owners. I know I need to filter parcels "by hand", center, zoom, scale etc. I'm using labels to get parcels numbers on the plan but I have to add name into title block. I don't want to use feature labels because concat function does not work (I need to show parcel number) plus the name I need to put on is quite long (it doesn't fit in the drawing).
My question is: Is there a way to put text into drawing / title block from attached table or from feature properties of shp or sdf files?
Is there any way to change the names of attached images? I have many drawings that thas about 10 images attached to each drawing; I have to change the name of images and I would like to assign these renamed images to the images attached to the drawing. Is there any way? Or will I have to detach the images and then attach them again?
I'm experiencing a strange behavior when i import a DXF with a plugin for AutoCAD 2012, but only when i'm on Win7 64bits.
The plugin normally (in WinXP) would load the .dxf file, then if it has a reference for an ortophoto picture, it places the picture on the right place and "visible" (you'll get what i mean by this later).
On the other hand, on win7 64bits when i import the dxf file using the plugin, it only shows the frame of the picture, but no picture inside!
cadgis_1
But, if i close the file i just opened and open the .dxf using Autocad "default" open, on the layout the picture is showing just like it was supposed to...
Autocad_layout
So, now i've opened the .dxf using Autocad, let's try again to open it using the plugin and.... voilá! The picture is displayed, bright and shinny! A miracle i must say!
cadgis_2
And if i open it again using the "default" open from Autocad, not only it displays the picture on Layout but also on the Model!
Autocad_Model
I'll attach the dxf with the external .tiff file.

I wasn't able to upload the picture, so i've placed in a zip file and attached it to the post.
Simply, I have Xrefs showing up in my Drawing correctly, but they are not listed in my Xref Manager. ?
If it makes a difference, I did move the Host Job Folder into an Archive. So normally my XRef links are broken but still they show up in my Xref Manager and not in the Drawing until I re-path to the new location. This is because I didn't use Relative Paths, which I am starting to use now.
I have a blank drawing. I XREF another drawing, it looks good, everything makes sense... Then as soon as I save my drawing, the XREF disappears, and is no longer listed in the XREF manager!
I am working on a rather big xref setup. The MAIN file has got about 10 OVERVIEW files refferenced in, each of the OVERVIEW files got another 15-20 DRAWING files attached.
Now when i attach OVERVIEW to MAIN it brings in all the DRAWINGS as unique xrefs as well.
Of course i want to see the DRAWNIGS in the MAIN file, but I'd prefer not to see them in the xref-manger (where i want to see only the OVERVIEW files).
An additional problem is that the DRAWINGS contain pictures on layout-tabs which are also shown in the MAIN file xref manager.
So long story short: is there a possibility to "hide" the sub-xrefs in the xref-manager?
Every time I reload the xref, regenerating the drawing or plot my details, I need to wait a long while. I have a plan (dwg) and the details (dwg) where I xrefed the plan 6 times. Everything is purged and audited. i thought this is a good way to work. Some tips how to manage with xrefs.
