AutoCAD 2010 :: 2012 Xref Has Multiple References / Not Detached
Oct 31, 2012I'm in AutoCAD 2012. This xref won't go away. I've done the obvious fixes but can't get rid of it.

View 4 RepliesI know the difference between attach and overlay for reference files.
The problem here is that the xref IS attacehd as an overlay and I am still not able to detach it.
I am working on WisDOT transportation plans. For those that are not familiar with these projects, certain reference files must plot black in some plan sections, but grey in others. When we submit the plans to the utility companies, all utilities must be black. but are grey in everyother submittal. I changed the xref level attributes to plot black with the intensions of detaching the xref and reattaching to revert back to the orignial grey level attributes. Is there anyway that changing the level attributes is somehow not letting the xref be detached?

ACA2011.I've got a construct that for some reason has 2 xrefs listed within it that I can't detach. It says that it is unresolved and when I try to detach it it says "c_Floor Plan - First" has multiple references, Not detached." This is one of two xrefs in the drawing doing this...how is it possible to have an xref of the same name in the drawing? I can't figure out how to detach it. It was causing problems in the view to which it was referenced, and I solved it by creating a bogus, blank construct called "test" and changed the path of the xref in the construct to this drawing...but I still can't detach it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wonder if its possible to Xref in DWG TrueView 2012, right now I can only open either the "Building drawing" or the "Plumber drawing" and I need to see them both.
Can I Xref or is it any other way to solve my problem?
- Dell XPS 8300 running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit with 12 GB of RAM
- AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series with updated drivers installed
- AutoCAD 2012 64-bit SP1

This hotfix is already installed.
This particular file (and a few others) has an issue whereby the computer pauses for a LONG time whenever an XREF is placed OR a copy/paste system command is executed (not the COPY AutoCAD command, but Ctrl+C/V). I have audited and purged the file; there are no audit errors. I also tried recovering the file and it made no difference.
I checked one of the problemmatic files on my machine (different machine but still AutoCAD 2012 and Win7) and the same file has the same issues.
New files do NOT have this problem. I have attached the file. Steps to recreate the problem:
1. draw a simple rectangle
2. try to copy/paste it with ctrl+c/v
3. this other machine and my machine both pause for 8-10 seconds
I'm confident that it's something in the file, but I don't know how to track it down.
I can't mask more than 1 area of an xref.
If I mask one area in model space, then I try to mask another, clicking no delete of previous boundary, it still won't let me do it. I need to mask many small pieces of an xref in the model space.
URL....I have a jpg file that I needed to apply some transparency to and saved it as a png file. I now want to delete the jpg file but it's being referenced in several drawings, but I don't know which ones. Is there a way to reverse the function of Reference Manager, ie find all the drawing files that reference my jpg file?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to create more than one data reference at a time?
I have approximately 30 alignments with over 100 profiles in my profile design drawing. The interface to create the data shortcuts allows me to do so by selecting multiple alignments and profiles. This works well and is efficient. To create the data references I have to create the reference for each alignment and profile one at time. I estimate this will take at least 30 minutes.
I am using Civil 3D 2012.

I have a data shortcut file where i keep my EG surface that now has File Name.dwg [DS] [DS] [DS] [DS]. What's the deal? Has this managed to morph itself into something it's not. It used to have only one, had two for awhile, and now 4 references to the DS (Datashort cut project folder).
Have I done something wrong here to get these wonky file names, would be nice to see just 1 reference being made to my DS Project folder.
I have recently configured various borders for our Inventor software and have now turned to AutoCAD to do the same.
Within Inventor you can specify grid references around the border. eg A-F along the top and 1-5 on the vertical. Can this be done with AutoCAD 2011????

I'm having is that this is happening with a dynamic block. I don't know how it got this way...some 'genius' in my office went into this file and screwed something up, and saved it...so now I'm left with the task of fixing it.
When I go into the block, it opens as a regular drawing, with a dynamic block inside of it...as opposed to opening in the block editor. I just need to know how to get this back to the way it should be, without having to redraw the entire thing from scratch. I made a few scrap-copies of the drawing to fool around with and I can't find a solution. I tried deleting the block and purging it, I tried exploding it, and I tried saving it directly from the block editor...nothing worked.
I use this palette all the time and keep the icon displayed (in hidden form) on every session that I open. I started AutoCad this morning and "external reference" icon was not displayed on the screen. I went to the tools tab and selected the external reference palette. A box was displayed that could not be hidden and all screen function were stopped until I closed this box.
I went to customize tool palettes and compared it to the properties palette and they looked the same. I want to get my external reference palette function back to the way it was.
I was working on some work files, and generally a box comes up saying that there are unresolved references and asking what to do. Usually I hit the x and everything works fine, but this time i accidentally clicked the checkbox to automatically ignore unresolved x references and now certain files will not load the references even though the path is correct and the files are there. I was wondering how to undo this check box. I imagine it has to be a variable or setting somewhere.
View 1 Replies View RelatedReceived some drawings with xrefs. Have put xrefs in sub directory called xrefs. Simple.
Opened drawings but cannot brows to select and save new path for xrefs. No brows button exists.
I am using acad LT 2012. So many unnecessary changes for so little benefit. Miss my old square screen also.
How do I update the path in simple terms nice and easy like previous versions of autocad. Storing xrefs in same directory is not an option. Reference manager does not appear to be part of acad LT 2012.
Drawings will not open in previous versions due to autodesk objects so using my trusty acad LT 2007 is also not an option.
How to avoid nested references reload every time I open autocad drawing. In some drawings I have twenty nested references. I really need to avoid reload each reference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was in paperspace, clicked in the viewport to do something in model space and a compass with north south east and west showed up in the top right corner of my viewport. When I clicked on it, my x-ref rotated. How in the world do I re create this? I have no clue how I even accessed it or what command prompted this to happen.

View 3 Replies View Relatedproblem when plotting files that have PDF images attached to them and are viewed through a viewport. When plotting, the publishing bar fills up but then stays filled and doesnt disappear. At this point AutoCAD is locked up and I see the file starts spooling. I have several PDF files attached that amount to no more than 500 kb, however, when spooling it racks up to 30mb before in sends it off to the plotter and it takes a very lenghtly wait (up to 60 min). Eventually it plots and sometimes it doesn't plot at all. After a while if I try cancelling the plot, it will start plotting but only half of the page and after that the entire operating system will lockup. We have several machines (6) and 2 plotters in a network and the plotters are shared. Is there a better and faster way to work with PDF xrefs? Could this be a networking problem instead of AutoCAD?

Periodically, when I try to create an XREF using the Relative Path option, C3D will tell me that it can't use the relative path. But if I then close the drawing and reopen it, the command works just fine. why C3D sometimes fails to do this, or why closing and reopening the drawing fixes the problem.
Never saw this problem before C3D 2012.
Just got the upgrade from 2012 to 2013 AutoCAD. When I opened the file from 2012 to 2013 for editing, my sub-xref file become "Unreferenced". The main Xref is loaded and fine. I tried to reload it but it doesn't work, and only its text path that are shown in there. It seems that the sub-xref file is in the right path when I trying to verify it location. So, what I did was use my old 2010 Autocad to finish my task which work fine. Why my sub-xref is in "unreference"condition using 2013 AutoCAD.?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a program in Visual Basic 2010. In one of the forms I put a button that when clicked must open AutoCAD 2012 and make a drawing in it. The user will decide where to save it.The steps are these:
1. I added the references Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop and Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.Common to the Visual Basic Project. That's OK.
2. I wrote this in the heading of the form's
- Imports Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop
-Imports Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.Common
3. In the event Click of the Button1 I put this:
Dim acadApp As New AcadApplication 'Create an instance of an AutoCAD Application
AcadApp.Application.Visible = True 'Show the instance of the AutoCAD Application
Dim acadDoc As AcadDocument 'Create an intance of an AutoCAD Document
acadDoc = acadApp.Documents.Open("C:Respaldo TesisDibujo2.dwg") 'Open a Document called Dibujo 2

I recently loaded several versions of AutoCAD on to a Windows 7 machine. ALL versions will open a drawing if double-clicked from windows explorer, but if I try to open through AutoCAD, the program freezes as soon as I click on the "Open" button. This is true for AutoCAD 2010 through 2012.
Machine Specs:
Dell Optiplex 990

I also cannot open multiple instances of ANY version of AutoCAD in Windows 7.
I made an autocad file. with many xref files. there are layers. and the layers are all the same, only the name for the layer its the name of the xref link . but how can i turn it off at once.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to come up with a way to track a block or xref in multiple drawings. I have multiple drawings that have the same block in them and I was hoping that there was a way I could find out what drawings have the block without having to open up every single drawing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile working in a drawing, I noticed that my leaders looked a little odd. They had ALL lost their verticies and upon further investigation I realized that the mtext is no longer attached to the leader (i.e. when you select text and grab the grip and move, the leader, text end, does not follow). Start a new leader command, and all is well with the new leader and text but the old leaders remain disconnected.
This is a new file originated in 2013. Audit was 0. Restarted AutoCad, checked a bak file and auto-save, no changes to mleader settings or attachments. I do no recall executing any out of the ordinary commands or changing settings.
Our office recently moved all of our project files to the dropbox. Now when I open files with xrefs I have to attach them back into the file. However, this doesn't happen for my coworker. She can see all the xrefs. How could I solve this? The file names or directory has not changed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to batch plot to PDF's from a drawing file that has multiple tabs in it. I would like each tab to be a separate PDF file. We are utilizing Acrobat X to write the PDF's. AutoCAD places all of the tabs into one file whether I tell a Multi-sheet file or a Single-sheet file.
View 6 Replies View RelatedLets say I have file 1 and files 2,3,4, file 1 contains several layers and is an xref in files 2,3,4.
Can I somehow set a layer to off or frozen in file 1 and it will make sure to be switched off in my files 2,3,4 aswell? I have played around with New VP Freeze but if I add a layer at a later time and files 2,3,4 already have several viewports that doesn't do me very good.
