I am trying to come up with a way to track a block or xref in multiple drawings. I have multiple drawings that have the same block in them and I was hoping that there was a way I could find out what drawings have the block without having to open up every single drawing.
View 2 RepliesSince AutoCAD 2013, I'm not able to use tracking when inserting block from tool palette. Example, I want to insert a door at 6 inches from a wall. I click the door from the tool palette, leave a tracking point at the wall corner, move the cursor in the right direction and type 6 follow by enter. The door is insert randomly in the drawing. It was working perfectly in previous release.
Actually I had to insert the door anywhere in the drawing and moving it at the right place and rotate it if required, it is very tedious.
When I import a drawing using XREF command from one file to the new file the scaling between model space becomes all messed up. making the adjustments between the two?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn the attached screencast video you will see that I have a drawing set up on the left of the screen to show where all the sections are taken through the building. I have setup a layer called SPC SECTION LINES which is set up to be bylayer and on the colour green.
When I XREF this drawing into the sheet file on the right side of the screencast you will see how the colour turns yellow when reference into the new sheet file?
Why does the colour of the line change when it gets xrefed into a new drawing?

I have amended our drawing frame (a block) in our templates so I now have a set of 82 I need to amend the frame in. So is there a easy way of redefining a block in a number of drawings or do I just do each drawing separate ?

I've started having a problem with the Publish command when publishing multiple drawings to PDF.
When I plot a drawing using the plot command, I don't have a problem.
When I publish one drawing using the Publish command it is also fine.
It is only when I try to publish multiple files that the problem occurs- the PDFs are produced, but the it is as if the drawing contents (paper space) has been shifted up by 10mm or so, cutting off the top of the drawing, and creating a larger margin at the bottom of the drawing. I use exactly the same page setup as for the single drawing plot.
There seems to be no setting that would change this, and the fact that publishing a single drawing works suggests that there is some kind of bug. At the moment i have to plot every drawing individually (or get my colleague to do it- it works fine on his machine, same page setup file!)

Combining multiple drawings in one go, I have 100 drawings (each has its layout) stored in 100 dwg files. I’m wondering if there is a way to combine them in one dwg file in one go assuming that they don’t overlap.
I need then to edit the title block of all of these layout knowing that this title block is an Xref.
I'm having some difficulty in deciding how to go about creating a title block for my drawings. I have attempted to create the title block with Document fields from the drawing properties custom properties tab, and creating the same fields with information from the Sheet / Sheet Set fields. Both title blocks used attributes inside the block to house the fields, and both were .dwt files.
Is there a way to take the properties from the .dwt drawing into a newly created drawing, or is there a way to link custom sheet set properties with a newly created sheet set? The main goal is to not have the user manually input multiple custom fields either in the drawing properties or the sheet set manager of the new drawing.
we got the big size file (file A), we fix it then we copy/ paste information (e.g. texts) from the other bad file (file B). File A becomes big size again although texts were copied is simple.
Question : How the best to copy these texts?
i use Autodesk Autocad 2014 , version 18 I have the following problem I open one drawing and start my work Then i open another one and the first one gets delleted , the sheet remaining empty.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have several architects who use VectorWorks that then export their electrical to me in a dwg format. I then use a program that makes intelligent devices from their blocks. The problem is that if there are 300 receptacles that are exactly the same, there is be 300 different block names for then such as group_205-1. In the past I just individually insert my intelligent block over each one of their blocks. But Now I am wondering if there is a way to select all the blocks and give them the same name and not have them all disappear because autocad sees them as duplicates.
I tried block replace, but it is one at a time and it gets rid of the old block. I then downloaded a trial of mblockreplace.vlx. However, it seems to also make all the blocks disappear. How to give the blocks the same name in a multi-select fashion without them all disappearing afterwards?

I am tying to create a Dynamic Block of a steel angle of multiple sizes and thickness. I used Dynamic Blocks before and live the idea of changing sizes on the fly with out having to delete and recreate an object.. I got as far as creating an angle of different sizes, i.e.. 4x4, 5x5, etc. and different thickness but can't get the thickness to work with the radius of the angle.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with polar tracking.Previously it was possible to hover over a point, then define the tracking direction and then specifying the distance. In 2013, the polar and object snap tracking path go away / ends when typing the desired tracking distance. Then the tracking direction has to be defined afterwords, which is new to me.That means that its not possible to define multiple distances continuously AFTER defining the tracking direction.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi need to send a drawing out to a clent of our's. it has a XREF with it . so here what i do. open drawing, purge it, go to xref manger highlite the referrence, right click, hit bind, Bind Xref/DGN underlay window comes up check bind hit ok it go thur it stuff. the xref disapear from the drawing but it still shows in the xref manger with a coment on the command line that say : Error : at least one of the specified xref failed to bind for an unknown reason.

I really like the object snap tracking feature to snap between 2 points intersecting but I find it overly sensitive and hard to get it right the first time.
Is there a way to turn down the sensitivity? I use this feature frequently.
We are a small company with two PCs - 1 laptop and a server. We are having problems using xref drawings across the network. The laptop is mapped to the Z drive and the reference file is on the server (D drive). Each time we open a drawing on the laptop (Z drive) the xref files which is saved on the server (D drive) cannot be seen. We reattached the file and it works fine until we closed and reopen the drawing. When the drawing is opened on the laptop the xref is not loaded on the screen. However, the file extension can be seen but no drawing is visible.
In summary how can we tell get the laptop to permanently reference xref files saved on the server without them dropping out?
I have recently upgraded from LT2011 TO Architecture 2013. I always use perpendicular tracking when copy and pasting but when I want to copy (or paste) a certain distance perpendicular to that object it doesn't like it. It's tricky to explain but say I wanted to copy a block of a teble 1200mm from the original block I'd copy, hover over the basepoint and move my cursor in the intended direction and type in 1200 and enter. The previous version of AutoCAD worked this command fine but since the upgrade I'm having trouble. Surely it's something as simple as changing the drafting settings bit I've gone through them all and no luck.

No problems whatsoever when command line is docked.
Does Inventor 2013 have any means of tracking editing time?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, I am working off a site drawing of an 80,000 sq ft production plant that was drawn by some old school drafters using probably AC 14. Most of the departments are drawn in xrefs. However, probably 10+ people worked on this project of mapping the plant so nothing is the same. I cannot describe the frustration of inconsistencies of this drawing. Alas, my question: some of my xrefs are shown in literal dim lines, what is going on? When you go to the original xref, the lines are as bright as they always are. When the xref is in the main drawing, the lines are dimmer than everything else.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor new drawings, is there a way to program Autocad to always load Xrefs relative? We pretty much use xrefs everywhere, and it seems like it would save a lot of time if I didn't have to open the External References and change each xref to relative.
Also, if you have an existing drawing and need to change the xref from absolute to relative path, is there a way to have it automatically do that? I'm assuming there isn't, but thought I'd ask.
When ever i open a dwg file (it contains Xref files) it's take a long time to open... and i tried the same file to open in Autocad 2007, it's opened with in a second.... and also note that the Autocad 2007 installed in a Dual core pc with 4gb RAM.. and the 2012 is installed in Core i7 12gb ram with NVIDIA graphics card.. and it's 64 bit Windows 7 too.. When i try to open a file it's shows "Loading c:/ ....... base.dwg, etc.. ..
