I had a set of drawings that I needed to redefine a block in and had to go into each drawing and redefine it seperately. Is there a way to redefine it once and then possibly select the drawings this block is redefined in?
View 9 Repliesafter I redefine a block (I make it bigger), I can't select the block by clicking on the part that's gotten bigger. It is as if AutoCAD still remembers the outlining of the previous smaller block and if I click outside this outlining it doesnt select the block. If I save, close and reopen the drawing everything is fine and I can select the block as normal.

I'm using blocks inserted into drawings to provide the background for the drawing which I'm working on. e.g an architects building layout inserted as a block and then used as the background in an electrical layout drawing.
This drawing being used for the background has been edited to remove various details and layers and give a cleaner background to my drawings, and is saved as its own dwg file. It is then insert as a block into numerous drawings for use as the background.
My question is - is there a way the block can be redefined once inserted into a drawing, without having to re-inserting it via the normal insert > block route, which would prompt the 'redefine block' option. I want to do this so that I could make further changes to the dwg file used as the background (such as the architects building layout), and quickly update drawings with this inserted as a block.
I'm currently working in autocad 2011.
I have amended our drawing frame (a block) in our templates so I now have a set of 82 I need to amend the frame in. So is there a easy way of redefining a block in a number of drawings or do I just do each drawing separate ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a title block that when inserted in the drawing 1st time all is well, colours are correct, close the drawing down & re-open & all the colours are redefined to the layer it's inserted on.!
Now, if i press U (undo) 3 times it reverts back to it's orginal state, colours etc. find attached F2 info:

I am trying to come up with a way to track a block or xref in multiple drawings. I have multiple drawings that have the same block in them and I was hoping that there was a way I could find out what drawings have the block without having to open up every single drawing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn previous versions of AutoCad I would just double click on a block do my changes click the save changes button and then a save dialogue would come up with an option to change the insert point. Did this option go away in 2013 AutoCAD? I do not get this option anymore after I finish editing a block? This is very useful. Why would this go away?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have come across a situation whereby when a user redefines a block in a drawing it is changing the draw order of the xrefs.The block in question is the Plan frame, and is located in paperspace. The user redefines the block and the xrefs change their draw order in the viewport. A regen does not unfortunately correct the issue.Drawings were created with Civil 3D 2010. The plan frame block is a dynamic block.

So when i need to make a change to a block, i make the change to the block in the folder and it automatically updates the block in all drawings? Is it possible to set this up without using xrefs, as i have hundreds of blocks.

My problem is that when I run the routine I prompts me that it can't fine the folder? I created a folder called "blocks" and is located straight onto my C:..........but it still doesn't work.

I have been given a set of drawings (300+) and I need to find where and/or if certain blocks (and other objects) are used in these drawings. Is there a utility program or does AutoCAD have the ability to search a group of drawings for a block (by name) and return a list of all the drawings where the block is found.
On that same topic, is there a utility program that will export all the CAD data from a list of drawings to a .csv file or even excel so I can filter and search several drawings for layers, blocks, xrefs etc.
I have a large amount of P&ID drawings that have blocks with attributes. One of the blocks is missing an attribute field that I need so I recreated the block using the same name and added the missing attribute. When I reinsert the block and say "yes" to updating the block's definition within one of my P&ID drawings everything seems fine except when I try to edit the block to fill in that field.
The newly added attribute doesn't show up but when I right click one of these blocks and select Block Editor the new attribute field does shows up so the redefine did work I just can't use that attribute. Is this a bug in AutoCAD? How I can use this attribute?

I wish to segregate the data and want some certain set of data e.g. in P&ID drawing, I need only instrument Tags which are connected to DCS and likewise...
Is there any way to filter such kind of data and get the required results?
I am trying to change text in hundreds of drawings. What I have is a line of text say "the brown fox" and I need to change it to "the black dog". I have probably 1500 drawings I need to do this in. I am not versed in scripts of lisp. I know the ACAD commands to do this but could develop a script file to batch this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I have several drawings open at the same time and have done work to some of them, at the end of the day I just pick the AutoCAD application "close" button (the "X" in the top-right corner of the window) and I'm prompted "Save changes to <drawing>?" for each of the drawings.
Unfortunately, most of the times I do this in AC2011, AutoCAD crashes. The next time I open AutoCAD, it initiates the recover but all the changes have been saved in the *.dwg file.
I know this is not the best way to save and close drawings but it has never been a problem.
why Autocad 2012 opens one window per drawing as opposed to Autocad 2007/2008 opening one window for as many drawings as you have open. (I also don't care to group/ungroup similar programs through Windows 7.) This must be an Autocad 2012 program default that I can't figure out to change.

Each row is assigned a drawing file name field and then the 6 attributes for the title block of each drawing. I am wanting a routine that will open a set of drawings, the set matching each drawing file name field record and populate the attributes in the drawing title block with the corresponding records in that row from the database table.
I have seen where multiple blocks in one drawing can be populated with an attached database but I want to populate several drawings with a single database that has several records. One row of records for each drawing.
I need to modify the page setup of multple drawings and have it save that way so everytime I open the drawing the chosen page setup is selected.
I'm aware of being able to set multiple page setups in the publish screen, but that isnt a permenant change to the drawings themselves, and not what I'm looking for.
I have a drawing with all my block definitions and the blocks inserted and annotated. Seems that in a previous version of Autocad, I could insert the drawing and cancel the insertion at some point of the insertion command sequence, such that the drawing was not inserted, but all the block definitions remained. I could then use the insert command and all of these blocks were available. Yes, sometimes this made my drawing memory size rather large and I would have to purge the unused blocks later to reduce the memory size of my drawing.

I need to match few attribute values from one block to different block. I download a lisp file called; ca.lsp which can match the single attribute value. I modified it for more than one attribute value matching. It is ok but still wish to overcome two issues for batch prcess
1. picking up the blocks by selection
2. click the alternative block numbers of times to match the numbers of attribute values I needed.
How to modify this lisp I can run it by block name selections instead of picking selection which enable me to run batch process for numbers of drawing? That will be good...

I'm trying to add a block with an attribute to a drawing. The command works if there is only one drawing open, but when there are other open drawings then the block doesn't appear. Strangely if I select the block in the block editor and then close the block editor the block suddenly appears. Do you know what is causing the block to not appear when other drawings are open?
I included the code below. "s1" works but "s2" has the strange behavior of the block not being visible.

I have a block that has to be update in a bunch of drawings -more than 20-. I updated in only one drawing, apply coy paste to the following but the block does not update in the drawing that I am pasting my new block. How is possible to update this block in the following 19 drawings?

It only works in New drawings if I open an old drawing I must "Copy/paste" the new Title Block into the browser to the left But I want all our old drawings to use the new Title Block.

I am not a VBA expert. I wrote some little macros in excel but it is the first one in Autocad.
I have a small code that opens a drawing, counts it, closes it and then loops for other drawings.
I have a code that print a drawing by defining some printing parameters.
Separately, both work. But when I call the second one into the loop, I get a error:

I'm having some trouble while copying between drawings. I am attempting to merge a number of floor plans which are all saved as seperate drawings into 1 drawing. However whenever I copy the floor plan over to another drawing, some of the lines/objects seem to be displaced.

What would be the best way to plot all drawings to 11 X 17 paper no matter what size the drawings are set to? These drawings are not xref or anything. They all are separated files. I tried using Set Sheet Manager; it will only plot to whatever that size is. I want all drawings to be plotted on 11 X 17. I did some research in the forums here and was not able to find what I was looking for.

For example, say I have a block representing a telephone and it had an attribute called "PhoneNo" and I inserted it into a drawing showing an office floor plan that had blocks in each office space that are telephone junction boxes with attributes "PhoneExtension". I would like to be able to autocomplete the entering of the “PhoneNo” data by selecting one of the telephone junction boxes in the drawing and using its attribute’s value.
I have created a dynamic block with a stretch, flip and rotate. Everything works great in its file. When I insert it in another file, the grips move but the block does not change.
