In previous versions of AutoCad I would just double click on a block do my changes click the save changes button and then a save dialogue would come up with an option to change the insert point. Did this option go away in 2013 AutoCAD? I do not get this option anymore after I finish editing a block? This is very useful. Why would this go away?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to edit an architectural Title Block. I've went into block editor and did attribute definitions. However, when I save it I can't insert it into a drawing. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?

I write a program, this program needs to insert some standard illustrations. I made these standard illustrations into different blocks. And I store these blocks in a dwg file. Everytime I need to insert some illustrations, I just click the mouse on the current drawing, I want the illustration inserted. These means the following points:
(1) Import the blocks to the current drawing, if the blocks have already been imported, then do nothing.
(2) Specify the insert point by clicking the mouse, and I want the block's insert point to coincide with the mouse clicking point.
I'm inserting blocks into my drawing and the block has a basepoint and a 0,0,0 point. The CAD guy who usually works with me is off today but he has a keyboard method of switching between the 2 points when inserting the block.
Its a fairly straight forward thing on his keyboard, nothing he has set up but standard in autocad.
I've had a try hitting a few keyboard buttons this morning but can't seem to do it.
I am learning autolips and i found a problem that i can´t solved.

I want to add a point after the last point of a polyline. But this point really is the first point and the command insert vertex really insert a new point.So, a solution , reverse the polyline to insert points after the last vertex.
Nobody thought ever to offer a insert_first and add_last commands ?
I have a drawing where I have placed all of my natural gas piping. I have all of the annotative blocks set to 3/32"=1'-0" and 1/32"=1'-0" scales. They are both correctly displayed in this drawing.
When I xref this drawing into another about half of the 1/32" blocks show up correctly. The other half are shifted to the right off of the plan. All of the 3/32" blocks show up correctly.
I need a routine that inserts a point at the insert point or block named "Insert_Point" at every block in the file. The routine could use the current layer, which would be set prior to starting the routine. If it could request the user for the PDMode value and PDSize that would be great too. This will assist me in creating block libraries.

I go to insert block is there but does not show in the drawing. Then tried to purge it and it does not let me because it is in the drawing but I can find it any where. after I redefine a block (I make it bigger), I can't select the block by clicking on the part that's gotten bigger. It is as if AutoCAD still remembers the outlining of the previous smaller block and if I click outside this outlining it doesnt select the block. If I save, close and reopen the drawing everything is fine and I can select the block as normal.

I'm using blocks inserted into drawings to provide the background for the drawing which I'm working on. e.g an architects building layout inserted as a block and then used as the background in an electrical layout drawing.
This drawing being used for the background has been edited to remove various details and layers and give a cleaner background to my drawings, and is saved as its own dwg file. It is then insert as a block into numerous drawings for use as the background.
My question is - is there a way the block can be redefined once inserted into a drawing, without having to re-inserting it via the normal insert > block route, which would prompt the 'redefine block' option. I want to do this so that I could make further changes to the dwg file used as the background (such as the architects building layout), and quickly update drawings with this inserted as a block.
I'm currently working in autocad 2011.
my problem is whenever i make a new block a stretch point appears even if its not a dynamic block . also its not a stretch point, because when i click on it, it just move the block , and it always appear on the coordinates 0,0 it cause me a problem when I insert the block , autocad use this point as a base point , and its very far from the real block .

Now, if i press U (undo) 3 times it reverts back to it's orginal state, colours etc. find attached F2 info:

I have a lisp routine that I would like to add to. Right now when running the macro the user is not prompted to "Pick Point On Line" in this example

BLK and VAR1 are set in another lisp routine.
I had a set of drawings that I needed to redefine a block in and had to go into each drawing and redefine it seperately. Is there a way to redefine it once and then possibly select the drawings this block is redefined in?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have come across a situation whereby when a user redefines a block in a drawing it is changing the draw order of the xrefs.The block in question is the Plan frame, and is located in paperspace. The user redefines the block and the xrefs change their draw order in the viewport. A regen does not unfortunately correct the issue.Drawings were created with Civil 3D 2010. The plan frame block is a dynamic block.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with block selection menu not coming up- specifically when inserting a new block. When I click the icon, the menu flickers but then disappers. If I click anywhere on my screen, I get a error noise as if the menu is open and I have to press esc to be able to function CAD again. The same error happens when I want to print when I click "edit page setup" nothing shows up, yet I get the error noise as if it is up but nothing is there. All of this worked at one time, but when I was trying to create a new block, somehow I must have turned something off.

I would like to click on a dynamic block in the tool palette and have it prompt for the (uniform) scale. I make a lot of civil drawings and sometime i need to list up relevant coordinates. In stead of manually plotting these in a table i would like to list them up automatically.
I installed Autocad 2013 a few weeks ago and I have a lot of blocks made with earlier versions (2008, 2012, etc...) that I need to use. When I try to edit such a block, block editor gives me trouble with visibility states. I can't select visibility states, and when I can, the changes made to that state don't follow and often the program reverts back to the first visibility state for no reason. This is getting to be extremely annoying and I'm thinking of going back to 2012 because of this. Is there a patch or some way to correct this?

In other words supose I have a block of a simple rectangle with the base point in the center.
If I try to snap to the block, I will be able to snap to all the corners, but not the base point. I know that i can put a point at the base point, but can I turn off the snap to the corners (just for the block) in other words, have an object that is unsnapable to without turning the snap mode off.
I have received details that have been blocked that I need to edit. When I expode or burst them, the dims text and arrows grow larger than is required for the block and I cannot find any adjustment in the properties to bring them back to the correct size for the detail. Also the leaders lose their point and association with their text and become just a line.
Is there a command that will allow me to edit the block without loosing the current sizing and associations?
I have created a dynamic block with a stretch, flip and rotate. Everything works great in its file. When I insert it in another file, the grips move but the block does not change.

I have a block that i want to insert several times and revised each one to be different to do this i would have to insert it and rename the blocks that come in and then reinsert i would like to insert and have a lisp explode the main block and rename the other 2 blocks with a suffix at the end depending on how many times its in the drawing... can this even be done? My original block name that will be first inserted is "BENT PULLEY NOTES" it needs to explode after i drop it in and then there are 2 blocks within that called "Bent Pulley" and "Bent Pulley DYN" that i was hoping to keep the names but add a number at the end depending on how many are in the drawing already...

I have a pallete button that inserts a block then a drag jig to position it. The block is first inserted at 0,0 and dragged.
The block at 0,0 remains visible while a "duplicate" block is dragged. Is there a way to hide the original?
