I have a block that has to be update in a bunch of drawings -more than 20-. I updated in only one drawing, apply coy paste to the following but the block does not update in the drawing that I am pasting my new block. How is possible to update this block in the following 19 drawings?
View 4 RepliesWe use a number of blocks with block tables for data extraction here, and whenever one of the blocks is modified and updated, all of the block tables reset to the default value. This happens for any block reference change, not just changes to the block table (which makes sense that it would reset).
How can we update these blocks without having to manually change all of the block tables afterwards?
I've made a block with fields linked to attributes (so when I change the value of the "master" attribute, the field values will change).
*NOTE* the fields are contained within a piece of MTEXT and NOT within another attribute.
The fields will not read the "value" of the attributes they are connected to, unless I explode the block (and change the DEFAULT value), or use regular text instead of attributes.
FIELDEVAL - set to 31
UPDATEFIELD - returns: "2 fields found, 2 fields updated" but it doesn't actually update them.
Regen/Regenall/Save - does nothing
BATTMAN - SYNC - does nothing
Lastly, I noticed that if I use "loose" text outside the block, but still link the fields (that are inside the block) to that text, they will update when I change the text contents after regen. AutoCAD is just having trouble using fields+attributes.
I am using Mech 2007. I have created a template to use with new drawings, and want to know if there is a way to update all the drawings at the same time when updating the template.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some difficulty in deciding how to go about creating a title block for my drawings. I have attempted to create the title block with Document fields from the drawing properties custom properties tab, and creating the same fields with information from the Sheet / Sheet Set fields. Both title blocks used attributes inside the block to house the fields, and both were .dwt files.
Is there a way to take the properties from the .dwt drawing into a newly created drawing, or is there a way to link custom sheet set properties with a newly created sheet set? The main goal is to not have the user manually input multiple custom fields either in the drawing properties or the sheet set manager of the new drawing.
I am trying to come up with a way to track a block or xref in multiple drawings. I have multiple drawings that have the same block in them and I was hoping that there was a way I could find out what drawings have the block without having to open up every single drawing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently updating company drawings from one template to another. I am using the copy and paste method. What I am noticing is that when I copy the part and the dimension from the original drawing ( all in 3 place dimensioning) to the new template Autocad is changing the dimensions to 4 place dimensions. First question is why is this happening and second question is can it be stopped?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy issue is that whenever I edit a sub-assembly or a part within an assembly, whether it's from within the assembly by right clicking and choosing "edit" or by opening the sub-assembly/part and editing it separately, once I return to the top assembly, it does not update constraints to reflect the changes. Say I constrain the top of a part to be flush with something in the assembly. Then I edit the part and make it shorter. Once I return to the assembly, the part has shortened but it is no longer flush as it was meant to be. It is lower with respect to the plane it should be flush to. If I double-click the "flush" constraint and then click the check mark, it's like it reminds Inventor the constraint is there and the part hops up where it should be.
Is there any way I can click an "update" button or something so Inventor automatically checks for part changes and re-constrains everything after I make changes to sub-assemblies or parts? I found a "Refresh" button and added it to my Quick Access Toolbar, but it does absolutely nothing.
I often have the same issue with sheets in my .idw files; they do not update once I edit a .ipn or another view in the sheet. Is there a similar solution for this instance as well?
I create a hole feature in part and use Hole and Thread function in drawing view. All info displayed correctly, but if the model changes - note does not! the only way to get the new thread/hole designation is by using the Hole and Thread function again.

For the past 2 days when I switch from one drawing to another, my layout tabs are not updating and stay the same as the previous drawings. I have to do a regen to get the proper tabs in place. All the layouts are there...it is just the tabs that are messed up. Once I click on one of the tabs they straighten themselves out as well, but on that first selection I never get the correct drawing that I want!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have several parts which I wish to modify, but, those modifications are only being done to get some prototypes made. I do not want the changed (non-approved part) to be used in current issue drawings, assemblies etc. until I have proven the modifications and am happy with them.
I can do this by doing a save as on the part and could just replace the previous design, but then I lose the history of changes/revisions shown in Vault which is critical to me and part of using vault in the first place.
I have created an annotative block. This block is displayed in a few different viewports at different scales. After I create the block I go and check the viewports and it is displaying well. The linework (polylines and a circle) is annotative as is the text in the block.
However, if I then change the scale/annotative scale of a viewport, the block doesn't seem to update properly. The text within the block updates to the new size although the linework within the block doesn't seem to scale and resets back to the model space size.
I've tried regenning etc with no luck. Is there a command I need to use after changing a viewport scale to force annotative blocks to update?
I have a drawing that has about 450 identical instances of a block. The block has visibility options to show different things. I don't want to edit the block as there isn't anything wrong with it.
What i need to is update the blocks all together to change visibilities.
I'm working on a program that cycles through each paperspace layout in a drawing and updates the sheet number and total quantity of sheets in the titleblock attributes. I've updated the block attributes in paperspace before, and it worked fine. Now that I'm trying to cycle through each layout, I cannot get it to work. I have attached my code. I beleive it starts to cycle through the layouts, but it fails when I try to grab the attribute collection.

I have a small vba sub wich changes the color and layer of all entities inside a block. It seems to work pretty well for the majority of blocks, but then if I try that on a dynamic block, the definition is correctly altered, but the references aren't updated...
I know for a fact that the definition has been correctly modified because if I type bedit, I can see the definition is modified. Then, in the block editor, if I save the block, the references are correctly updated.
How to force references to update after I made the modifications inside the definition ?
I searched for methods within the VBA Reference and I tried blockRef.Update but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Fairly versed with Dynamic blocks here, so the first thing I checked was to make sure that my FIELDEVAL was set to 31 to ensure updates but this one isn't working for me and may be a limitation of the software?
I'm making a dynamic block for my users who aren't familiar with electrical wiring so I am developing a series of blocks for our typical wiring configurations. In this instance, I've setup a pair of attributes to allow the changing of wire color codes and I want to use that single attribute entry to used in multiple other locations that are also connected to that conductor in certain situations. I have setup a field within this block to be the "VALUE" of the object (the attribute) in order to accomplish this. Unfortunately it is only displaying the default value I have for the attribute and will not update either upon insertion of the block or after an edit. Is this beyond the capabilities of Dynamic blocks or do I need to take a different approach?

I am currently updating the drawings blocks so that I can input an excel spreadsheet with over 1500 names into the drawing using Attin (changed the .xls to .txt and roberts your mothers brother)
Unfortunately the spreadsheets I have been given have the name as one field. i.e name: Joe Bloggs, Ideally I would have the information as First Name: Joe last name: Bloggs and create two associated attributes which would enable a nicely displayed block..
is there any way that I can format the block so that the attribute displays as a multi line..e.g.

Bloggs
not
Joe Bloggs.
I know I can go into each attribute (although trying to remember that command "A something Edit" I think) and edit it like a piece of txt. I would rather not have to go and do that if there is another work around..
I'm trying to edit our titleblocks. There is information we repeat at the top of the drawing like the drawing name, sheet number, total number of sheets, contract number, etc. It is ridiculous to have to type this information in twice. I tried creating both text and constant attributes at the top and insert field pointing to attributes at the bottom but all I get is ---- when inserted. My inserted field was ->Object->(selected attribute)->Value. I am using version 2011. I would think it should be easy to "repeat" values of attributes inside a block.

When trying to open any drawings from our AutoDesk Vault 2013 server, AutoCAD will hard lock/freeze and can only be closed by using Windows Task Manager. When accessing the same files through the Vault first, without opening AutoCAD, they open with no issues.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUpdating the attached dwg (Xref),The file Q1 is attached to the file Q5 (attached). Edits are applied to the Q1. These edits are not transferred to the Q5 despite the fact that the “regenerate” button is pressed.
What might be the issue here? How the edits on the Xref files are reflected directly to where they are attached?

Using project navigator my drawings get xrefed from the constructs, through the views, and finally to the sheets tab.
I recently realized that I needed to fix / change my linetypes on 5 different drawings starting at the construct. When I had finally finished fixing the layer linetype / line LTscale / drawing LTscale to get it to look exactly the way that I wanted, I had to go through my views drawings, and the sheets drawings, detach the xrefs, re-attach them, and then modify the layers to the colours that I wanted.
Some people had the same problem about 10 years ago in this thread, and the poster at the bottom sums it all up nicely. This is not a VISRETAIN issue. I just want changes to my linetype changes to flow through all xrefs, just as if I had moved a line.

I would like to see a setting added to CAD that would allow linetype changes to flow through, and a colour setting that would allow colour changes to flow through. Maybe VISRETAIN is too broad of a command, and needs to be broken down into linetypes, colours, LTScales. etc etc etc.
I'm trying to add a block with an attribute to a drawing. The command works if there is only one drawing open, but when there are other open drawings then the block doesn't appear. Strangely if I select the block in the block editor and then close the block editor the block suddenly appears. Do you know what is causing the block to not appear when other drawings are open?
I included the code below. "s1" works but "s2" has the strange behavior of the block not being visible.

After some infrastructure changes, I need to repath all of my xrefs. I know I can easily do this using the Reference Manager, and I have. However, when I open the drawings that I have updated, the xref images (jpg, png, etc) do not display, but rather only show the image border. I must then go into the External References pallette in each drawing and reload each reference. This works fine, but it is awfully clunky, as I must do this for every drawing.
Is there a way I can batch reload these references after updating the path in Reference Manager?
I installed IV13 onto four of our workstations including the update 1.
Due to the size and complexity of our project we are using Vault to manage all of our parts and drawings.
We had issues with 2012 but managed to get around them. I was hoping 2013 would solve some of them but we are experiencing extremely slow performance with 2013. It takes at least 15 to 20 minutes to open and update drawings. Swopping between an assembly and IDW to do updates takes another 20 minutes to refresh and update.
This is happening on all four of the workstations.
I have come across a few forums with this same issue and I have tried setting up the options as described in them but have had no difference in performance.

I have done a new Title Block in our drawing templates.
It only works in New drawings if I open an old drawing I must "Copy/paste" the new Title Block into the browser to the left But I want all our old drawings to use the new Title Block.
Is there a way to have the new Title as default on all old drawings?
I have 20 seperate Acad drawings, which uses multiple blocks across all drawings. Is there a way i can create a block using Wblock and save seveal blocks in a folder. So when i need to make a change to a block, i make the change to the block in the folder and it automatically updates the block in all drawings? Is it possible to set this up without using xrefs, as i have hundreds of blocks.

View 3 Replies View Relatedprojected geometry not updating between sketches in inventor 2013. I hope this will be fixed in 2013 sp1. I have noticed it happening alot when I project a line of another sketch that makes a single point in my new sketch. once the original skecth is changed the second one doesnt update sometimes. It doesnt do this 100 percent of the time just when I need to get stuff done.
