AutoCAD LT :: Updating Drawings - Dimensions Changing

Jul 19, 2012

I am currently updating company drawings from one template to another. I am using the copy and paste method. What I am noticing is that when I copy the part and the dimension from the original drawing ( all in 3 place dimensioning) to the new template Autocad is changing the dimensions to 4 place dimensions. First question is why is this happening and second question is can it be stopped?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assemblies And Drawings Not Updating

Jan 9, 2013

My issue is that whenever I edit a sub-assembly or a part within an assembly, whether it's from within the assembly by right clicking and choosing "edit" or by opening the sub-assembly/part and editing it separately, once I return to the top assembly, it does not update constraints to reflect the changes. Say I constrain the top of a part to be flush with something in the assembly. Then I edit the part and make it shorter. Once I return to the assembly, the part has shortened but it is no longer flush as it was meant to be. It is lower with respect to the plane it should be flush to. If I double-click the "flush" constraint and then click the check mark, it's like it reminds Inventor the constraint is there and the part hops up where it should be.

Is there any way I can click an "update" button or something so Inventor automatically checks for part changes and re-constrains everything after I make changes to sub-assemblies or parts? I found a "Refresh" button and added it to my Quick Access Toolbar, but it does absolutely nothing.

I often have the same issue with sheets in my .idw files; they do not update once I edit a .ipn or another view in the sheet. Is there a similar solution for this instance as well?

AutoCAD LT :: Auto Updating Dimensions In Viewports

Aug 13, 2012

recently switched over to AutoCAD 2013 from 2012. A time svae feature I used extensively in 2012 was the auto update feature for dimensions. My workflow is to set up a base plan then xRef that plan to my various sheets where needed in viewport in paperspace. If I set my DIMASSOOC to (2) and then dimension in paperspace I was able to auto update the dimensions with any changes by simply double clicking in the viewport window then switching back to paperspace. I have spent some time researching this feature today without any answers. Would this be just a bug in the new version or is it a feature that has been disabled?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Certain IPart Dimensions Not Updating

Aug 20, 2013

A few weeks ago I created an iPart for a custom flange with various sizes, today I have added a new row to the family for a new size. Most of the dimensions work fine but two of them are not translating to the sketch/model from the table.

All dimensions that are working correctly lie on one sketch and the dimensions that are not changing correctly are on a seperate sketch.

The flange is made from a single revolve and then the bolt holes were added seperately as a single extrusion which was then patterned.

The dimensions are correct on the family table but are incorrect when I go into the particular parts parameters.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hole Note Not Updating In Drawings

Sep 27, 2012

I create a hole feature in part and use Hole and Thread function in drawing view. All info displayed correctly, but if the model changes - note does not! the only way to get the new thread/hole designation is by using the Hole and Thread function again.

see print screen attached - I kept changing the model and using Hole and Thread tool couple of times. They all point to the same hole but look at the results..

Reboot does not work...

AutoCad :: Layout Tabs Not Updating When Opening Additional Drawings

Apr 12, 2013

For the past 2 days when I switch from one drawing to another, my layout tabs are not updating and stay the same as the previous drawings. I have to do a regen to get the proper tabs in place. All the layouts are there...it is just the tabs that are messed up. Once I click on one of the tabs they straighten themselves out as well, but on that first selection I never get the correct drawing that I want!

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Modify Part Without Updating Linked Parts / Assemblies / Drawings

Nov 12, 2012

I have several parts which I wish to modify, but, those modifications are only being done to get some prototypes made. I do not want the changed (non-approved part) to be used in current issue drawings, assemblies etc. until I have proven the modifications and am happy with them.

I can do this by doing a save as on the part and could just replace the previous design, but then I lose the history of changes/revisions shown in Vault which is critical to me and part of using vault in the first place.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimensions Disappear When Updating Model (Tube And Pipe Feature)

Jul 19, 2013

I am having trouble with dimensions disappearing in the drawing when I update my model.

I add the correct dimensions then when I update my model, all dimensions on the drawing disappear and I have to make them all again.

A little more info:

I am using the tube and pipe feature to drawing tubing inside of an assembly.

Process:

1) I draw the tubing routes and populate them (to show an actual swept tube)

2)Right click on the newly created route in the explorer and open the tube.

3)File->new->drw.

4)Add necessary dimensions to the tube drawing.

5)Save and close drawing

Up until this point everything is fine.

6)Edit the tube route in the assembly and save

7)Upon opening the drawing of that tube route ALL dimensions have disappeared.

AutoCad :: Adding Dimensions To Drawings?

Jun 12, 2011

I am using it for producing 2D drawings for some simple prototyping.

I am having trouble with two things - Adding dimensions for when I print the image. At the moment I can add dimensions using the constraint tool but I cant seem to find a way to add concise dimensions specifically for printing.

Also is there a feature or a format that I can make 2d images specifically for printing? Perhaps there is a file format?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Depth / Height Dimensions In Drawings

Jun 8, 2012

DRAWINGS: I need to prepare a plan view of a complex part, which incorporates many different (parallel) heights. In the drawing, all of these faces are parallel to the plane of the drawing itself. There are far to many of them to show their heights using section views. The usual drawing convention in this case is to simply indicate each face on the drawing, and then express its height relative to a reference plane.

Until now, I have been doing this simply by measuring a height from the part, and then indicating it on the drawing by adding leaders and text, which:

1. Is extremely laborious
2. Obviously has no intelligent link to the actual part/drawing

My breadth of knowledge in CAD is not huge, but I know that in Gibbscam, for example, after setting the position of the origin in 3 planes, if I then pass the cursor over any parallel plane in the z direction while pressing alt, I will get the distance of that plane from z=0.

What I want is the possibility in Inventor to select a face in a drawing, which is in the same plane as the drawing, and straight away be given it's height relative to a parallel reference plane. Such a value should then update intelligently on the drawing if I modify that same height on the part.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Rotate Text On Retrieved Dimensions In Drawings

Jan 30, 2012

I frequently use tolerance and fits when modelling and retreive them to use them in drawings. The text on these dimensions is always horizontal .  Any time I have vertical dimension on drawings (e.g. several diameters in a stepped bore) the horizontal text  takes up way too much real estate.  e.g. 18.0000 g6 (17.999 17.998)

I would like to align the text to the dimension lines (i.e. text vertical in this case) In Properties Rotate is greyed out.  Is there a way to keep my retrieved dims and have them aligned with the dim lines in the drawing?

AutoCAD LT :: Changing Layers With Downloaded Drawings?

Nov 20, 2012

drawings that I download from commercial vendors, (Grainger, McMaster, etc).  I figured out how to get access to them:  When I convert them from .DXF to .DWG. it somehow allows me to correctly dimension them.

One more problem I have with these drawings is that although I can edit them, one of the most important things I need to be able to do is change the layer they're on.  I can't figure out how.  I usually use the "Change to Current Layer", LAYCUR, command, but it doesn't seem to work for these commecially downloaded drawings.

They're always in "Layer 0". I've created multiple other layers that I need them in, but I can't get them to move.  When I select them and then click on the Change to Current Layer button, they just don't move.  'm drrawing in Model Space.

AutoCad 2D :: Dimensions Not Changing Size / Scale?

Mar 15, 2013

I've just recently changed jobs and so I'm working on a new (to me) system with Autocad Mechanical 2013. I had been working with Mechanical 2010.

One (of the many) issues that is bothering me, is that I can't seem to scale resize individual dimension. Normally, I'd create the dimensions and then if I needed to tweak the fit, I'd go into the Properties pallet and change the overall scale under Fit. Not really a good standard of practice, I know...

But when I do that on my current system, the dimension doesn't change at all.

On top of that, I have a weird refresh problem. If I grab a dim by the grip and move/stretch it, it doesn't actually show the new position unless I Regen. Is that a setting or maybe just a slow reaction by my computer?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dimensions Changing Scale In Paperspace

Aug 27, 2010

Modeling 1:1 in MS, dimensioning in PS different scaled viewports.  Plotted from PS, did further work both in MS/PS and notice dimension readings have scaled up by 99.98% and 100% to what they were in hard copy.  Changed dims in properties but for some reason they have reverted back to the percentage increase?  For example I have a 5745mm truss span that is now a 574.5 meter spanning truss!!??  Haven’t altered dimstyle at all or any scalings.  Laid another dimension again in PS along side the exaggerated one using same endpoints in order to check things and it’s fine.

Would like to know what has caused the dims to scale up in PS and, how to undo the problem, hoping not to have to re-dimension.

Attached is the dwg. and yes, I have dimensioned in MS but there was a reason.  It’s PS that’s causing the grief.
